I have come through many people from different religion speaking on their religion... What I feel, personally is religion is just a medium to reach god. Its the belief which is much more superior than it. Like say, I am christian but I dont have that believe in god than it doesnt matter. So what I want to ask you ppl is

According to you is belief is more important in lyf for anything let it be your job, your personal life or your GOD or religion... or its the religion???
Does it make any difference rather than following a religion follow a belief????

Everything is culturally specific and nothing is universal. But most people can subscribe to the Ten Commandments - Jews, Christians, Muslims etc. Even athiests can subscribe to all or most of the seven Noachite commandments: 1. not to worship idols, 2. not to curse God, 3. not to kill, 4. not to steal, 5. not to engage in sexual immorality, 6. not to eat the limb of a living animal and 7. to establish courts of law to enforce them.

So core Beliefs seem more important, more universally acceptable than Religions and their minute practices. You might find it ghastly to worship a dead body stretched out on a crucifix; you might find the notion of not using electricity on Sabbath laughable; you might find the idea of starving yourself half to death one month of every year an offence against good health. But you must admire a person who sets high standards of morality for himself and keeps to those standards.

Let’s face it, believing is hard work and practicing a certain faith relating to a specific religion is just as darn difficult, but believing or belonging to a certain religion / believe is part of who you are. It defines you as an individual. The whole atheist thing makes my skin crawl. You can walk through life proclaiming you don’t believe in anything or anyone but eventually you will hit rock bottom and your whole being will cries out to something, and emptiness which causes the little hope you have left to shatter. So whether you believe in a something non- existing in this realm or bow down to a universal God our human nature cries out to something beyond this world. The whole journey pertaining to faith or religion is experiencing absolute peace of mind and inner spiritual fulfilment.

I don't think a person needs to believe in anything to be happy. If you're alive, that's enough.

      Do you "believe" that?
    2. nothingprofound
It doesn't matter whether I believe it or not.
    3. morgantj
It matters to readers if you yourself don't even believe your own comment. Just throwing stuff out there that you don't even believe yourself seems rather disingenuous.

It's up to the reader to decide whether they believe it, not if I do. And I didn't say I didn't believe it. I said it doesn't matter if I do. What is true is true. So Morgan, you can decide for yourself.

So if you or readers do actually do "believe" it then it really isn't necessary that they do believe it since it is enough to just be alive as you say.

If you want to untie this knot, you'll have to untie it yourself.
    7. morgantj
It's your knot, not mine. You untie it.

Belief is more important than religion. Religion is just a medium. But belief is not like that. Each and every one have belief in something.

Many people believe in belief more so than a particular god or religion.

I believe a soft touch is more productive than a hard blow. I believe there is a reason for existance. My faith is that it is good. I can't box it in any more than that.

I don't believe in God; I don't believe in religion; I just believe in me, in the power that is me.

      I believe in you too.
