Religion is about practising your worship, how you pray, how you please the God etc. This comes out of the idea that God is someone separate from you and when God is given a personification (that he actually needs to be pleased like humans). Spirituality, as name suggests, is about the spirit which is the ultimate connecting factor between all living beings. Spirituality tells you that God is inside you, your spirit is the God and so it is in everyone and it is the same.

religions are the established forms of spiritual thinking. for me the establishments are the representation of everything bad about a religion whereas you can be spiritual and not want to start 'holy' wars.

I agree with iratedog. Religion is a school of thought, indoctrination if you will. Spirituality is your individual take on whatever you believe or feel comfortable with. That's just my opinion.

I agree with the comments above. Religion is imposed from outside ourselves. From our culture. We are told by others (parents, friends, clergy, etc.) what prayers to say, how we are to say them, what books we are to accept as holy, who and what to believe.

Spirituality comes from inside ourselves. Our listening to our inner voice, our moments of doubt, moments of transcendence, of connecting with something we cannot specifically define, of accepting mystery, finding ourselves open to others, what they relate of their experiences and moments.

Religion is a given. Spirituality is a quest.

Religion tells you that you must please God and gives you the guidlines to do so, and it promotes the idea of congregation.

on the other hand spirituality is personal and you dont need a community to find it, and much less a series of rules. Spirituality for me is about personal growth, about feeding the inmaterial core inside of us.

I think religion is a structured beleif system while spirituality is more of the general sense of how a person perceives the vastness of life in general. You can be spiritual and not beleive in going to church or reading a bible...but still pray or meditate to find meaning and balence.

Spirituality is grounded in external experience. It is the intellect crossing from the visible to the invisible. As when we say "dog". We have never seen "dog", we have abstracted the noun from this concrete chihuahua, this pitbull, this Labrador. In the same vein, when we induce Substance (to reach what is neither concrete nor abstract), we are in a spiritual mode. The term of spirituality is to reach the First Being - of which the neuron can say nothing in particular.

Religion is the belief and adherance to a particular First Being.

Mostly, Religion Is What We Wear. Spirituality Has To Be Achieved. AH! Nirvana!

Spirituality is the inner connection between oneself and the higher power, while religion is a belief based on teachings and practice.
