Ok we've had a hell of alot of remakes released in the last few years.
And with the new Tron on the way i got thinking.
As anyone actually ever watched a remake which was superior to the original?
With Asian movies and their hollywood remakes the answer is generally NO
Infernal Affairs > Departed
Ill mare > Lake House
Can only think of any remakes which were better also is there any film in which you would like to see a remake?

The Day the Earth Stood Still
War of the Worlds
Both Original and Remakes had amazing things about them - especially if you take creation dates and capabilities into account.
I would love to see MORE older films put into NEW movies - with new actors.
I would - and this is just a personal wish - like to see the old Jerry Lewis movies - and Marilyn Monroe Movies remade...
And I'd love to see a NEW Remake of the Wizard of Oz --- I mean following the Script - and everything - not some weirdo kind...
And I would love to see Quantam Leap...
And Alias made into movies.
Oh - and might as well make LOST into a real movie series - instead of made for TV.
Sigh...
Beverly HIlls Cop - those could be redone - they were pretty cool.
An yanno - I'm sorry - I TOTALLY Dug DEMOLITION Man - and Logan's Run - and think those could be redone.
Just some whacked out thoughts..
I think EXORCIST could be redone too. -

The Return of Martin Guerre was a 1982 French film based on events in C16th France that really did happen. I was reading French history back then, and felt the story was improbable but believable. Gerard Depardieu and Nathalie Baye were wonderful.
Sommersby was a 1993 American remake of the very same story, but this time they set the events in the USA, just after the civil war. I don’t dislike Richard Gere and Jodie Foster’s acting; I just think a remake into another nation’s culture is silly. It would be like inserting the Gallipoli story into Peru’s cultural history. -

I prefer watching the Originals. Remakes sometimes change each every detail of the story. Thats why am so disappointed to watch Remakes.

One of the writers on my blog wrote a really good article about remakes and originals. The article relates to asian movie remakes but I believe the arguments hold up well regarding any type of remakes

"Why Hollywood Remakes Don’t Measure up to the Asian Originals Part 1"
