Hello,
While we're pigging out with our picnics, barbecues, sports events, and booze in our air conditioned homes or public parks, they are sweating over back-breaking, high stress situations that would make most of us cringe. Ironically, the prisoners in our prisons have more then out troops do... Its a sad commentary to think that hardened convicted criminals, people with absolutely no regard or caring about who they hurt, have more rights then the very people that are giving so much to protect us, and in many cases have given the ultimate sacrifice of their lives to protect what we take for granted.
So, on this Memorial Day, take a few minutes to think about all you have... and thank our armed forces for their diligence in their duties to preserve what you have.

Thank you.

ditto, to some of what you have to say.
It is a shame how they are forgotten, and ignored.
My problem with your comment is about the convicted, many of the convicted are ex-vets, as are the homeless, and the disabled, and the insane. And, so they are forgotten and ignored.
It turns my stomach when here in New York, at the Veteran's Day Parade the streets are empty, and yet for the Columbus Day parade the streets are filled, a killer of 8 million people and he gets flags waved, Our vets, get craped on all the time. It's a lose lose to serve this country for most of these kids. Here you are trying to say the right thing, but you're still knocking many of them. So would have never have turned to crime if they hadn't had to look death in the eye.
But, good thought, someone had to say it.
Happy Holiday.-
I agree with you in regards to some of the vets turning to crime. I blame this on the gov't for not having the needed support and framework to help them. I haven't encountered any vets that are "harden criminals", the few I have encountered are acting out of desperation more then anything and would jump at an opportunity to better their circumstances.

I've yet to come across a government that provides adequate support to war veterans. I used to live in an army town in South Wales and the crime rate soared around 6 months after the Iraq war started, a lot of it was attributed to post traumatic stress disorder and they neither received adequate mental health care or financial support, half of the time they are shipped to Germany or Cyprus and denied the time to re-connect with their families.
It is sad really that here in the UK it has taken an eccentric actress to secure settlement for the Nepalese soldiers that have fought for us!!
More needs to be done to honour all veterans.
