Removing "removed by the community"

Topics: blogcatalog discussions, comment deletion, removed by community
Many people send us shouts after one of their comments has been removed asking us why. Also, many members have stated that having the "removed by community" message is misleading because it is actually being removed by the admins.
Well, we now have incorporated a system that will allow moderators to give a specific reason for the removal of any deleted comments. Also, the reason will be a clickable link that will take you to the discussion guidelines page for further reference. We hope this will be more useful to members, especially new ones, than the "removed by the community" message.
Oh and please don't be offended if you get "removed due to your mom dropping you on your head when you were a baby," or "removed because you ate paint chips as a kid." We do like to have some fun every once in a while

Improvement! I like it. Thanks. But try to avoid the "fun" messages if there's any doubt as to why it was removed - there are more then enough where there is no doubt to have fun with!

I think you should give specific, detailed information, such as
"removed due to the fact that you are a moron and your comment lowered the general IQ of the entire forum."
Or
"removed because the moderator is in a crappy mood and he's bored."
Or
"removed because there was another comment similar but better than yours was." -

Thank you all for the great suggestions. And, just to curb any concerns, we really weren't planning on using humorous reasons unless it is one of those situations where someone asks us to remove their own comment, or some other very innocent situation. Other than that, we will be using specific responses that will be helpful to the members.

It's blatant censorship and discrimination! Anybody who grew up in the '80's ate paint chips. It was the thing to do at the time. Super NES, an episode of 'Night Court,' and a bowl of paint chips was an integral part of my childhood. And who's going to censor the censors? Blog Catalog is turning into a Franz Kafka novel. Today it may be paint chips, next it could be people who tried to get high on banana peels.

Thanks for the clarifications. I've sometimes wondered - since some of the 'removed by' comments have been replied to - sometimes repeatedly - in one case, if memory serves, by the person who started the thread.
I've sometimes spent a few seconds trying to figure out why, in those circumstances, the comment was removed. -
I like this idea, but there is one I like a little better.
How about leaving it as Comment removed by ---- Then list every person who reported the comment.
I think this would lead to some very interesting threads. I may be able to recruit the guy who used to do security for the Jerry Springer show.
Who knows once it's no longer anonymous it may lead to less reporting. -
