How do you respond to a comment if you are on Blogger, like I am?

I used to do them in groups of 3 but now I do one comment response per commenter.

I think it's easier for them to catch my responses this way, plus, it makes my comment numbers double and that in itself draws in more people to leave a comment.

I wish there was a way to leave the response directly under their comment, though.

Can't help. You get more traffic than lil' 'ol me. so I manage to catch it after someone comments.

Give it time, you'll get commenters too!

I end up doing them in groups, typically, addressing each person individually.

The reason for this is twofold-- I have two profiles in Blogger, one for each of my blogs. When I'm getting comments on two different sites time, I don't want to have to log-in and log-out all day into different Me's.

Also, my thrifting blog folks are speedy. So I'd be doing a LOT of individual posts. The visitors seem to get the process, though.

It is a lot more effort, doing individual replies.

Yesterday my Good Old Days post received 37 comments and I didn't respond to a one of them, I just didn't have the energy.

I wish I had the time. I like responding, and folks are pretty sharp-- I enjoy the interaction. I read the comments and I realize THEY'RE making ME laugh, and isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

      But it's great. I wouldn't trade it!

Same here! I love the comments I get, some of them are sooo funny!!
  3. Rivergirl
Yea I usually catch the comments too since I don't get many, so I can usually leave one directly underneath. There have been a couple cases where I received multiple comments before I noticed, and then I usually address each one, in one comment, like you used to do.
    1. offendedblogger
I might go back to that, but a few times I was in the middle of responding in groups and someone would leave a comment and mine would post after theirs so it looked like I was ignoring them haha.

At least with single responses, I can avoid that I suppose?

I signed up for holoscan. I'm not overjoyed, but at least I get a bit more comment control there. I've started to use the edit feature to post my reply in their block in bold. It's not the greatest, but I'm not ready to try moving my blog yet.
    1. offendedblogger
I like your comment thingy, now that I think about it!

I might try Haloscan just for something different, well, and because I copy everything you do hehe.
    2. Donlewis
liar. Your success rate shows that you never follow my lead!
    3. offendedblogger
Pfft. We both know it is because I sent out those nekkid pics to all my readers like you told me you were going to do.

I can't help that you chickened out at the last minute!
    4. Donlewis
Still waiting for my set Chelle.

But the limerick writing is going well.
    5. offendedblogger
      We'll trade.

Of course, I outsource my nekkid picture sending just like I do my blogging so if you get some of a guy named Haji, don't be uptight about it.
    6. Donlewis
      As long as he's hot.

I agree it would be nice to be able to make comments within comments..I try to respond to comments at once bu sometimes have to do them in groups, also If possible I follow the commentors link and check out their blogs
    1. kevingoodman
I think with wordpress there is a plugin to do that
    2. offendedblogger
Well I noticed that blogs that have that feature, where you can leave a reply directly under a comment like I am with you here, seem to have more interactive dialogues with their readers and people will come back and leave a few more comments.

I am jealous, I want that!!
    3. kevingoodman
      Make the switch.
    4. offendedblogger
      I can't! I am too chicken.

For me, it depends on the rate at which the comments appear. When they sort of dribble in, I am able to reply to each, under the original, one at a time.

But when there's a flood of them, or when they come in very quickly (Wordless Wednesday posts come to mind) then I reply to a group of comments at once, using "@" to direct a comment to an individual.

Sometimes -- again, thinking of something like Wordless Wednesday, when many of the comments just say something like "Pretty photo" or "Nice shot" -- I just say a generic thank you to all, followed by a series of "@" comments directed to people who said or asked something specific that deserves an individual reply.

If my response needs to be long, I will post it separately. Otherwise I group my comments addressing each individual separately.

If there's a lot, I address them by name and put 'em in one. If they trickle, I do it one by one. I just re-set my comment feature to disallow anonymous comments, though. I know it will decline my comment numbers, but I was seeing some strange stuff come in on my stats. One person looked up my address from Google maps apparently and clicked over to a fairly controversial piece I did. I decided I want to know who I'm talkin' to. best, Kay

I don't ever respond. Do I need to?
    1. bnsullivan
It's polite to respond, at the very least. But better still, responding often leads to a sort of conversation in the comments, which always is fun.
    2. offendedblogger
You don't need to, but I do.
  10. Tagruato
There is a way to put threaded comments on blogger. Try this service - js-kit.com/comments/

If you like the idea but have trouble implementing it, give me a shout. I've set it up before on blogger so should be able to help.
    1. offendedblogger
Hey, this looks really good! I am going to give it a try, thanks soooo much!!
    2. Donlewis
      This looks interesting.
    3. offendedblogger
It works great, Don. I added it to www.theoffendedamerican.com if you want to check it out.
  11. diggnfordiamonds
    Chelle, I always answer in groups...but then I don't have to answer 37 at a time...lol

    * never thought about answering individually and uping my comment count...hmmmm
    1. offendedblogger
Hey!! I think I found the review/ratings thingy you were looking for at the same place I got my new comment thing.
  12. chicapumuckl
I usually answer in groups. Most of the time I cannot catch the individual comments as I cannot monitor 24 hours and my timezone is different to the one of most of my readers.

If I have the chance and can catch the email address I also send them a reply by email. Unfortunately Blogger makes this a bit difficult sometimes.
  13. JillSaxon
    I usually answer in groups of 4 0r 5.
  14. clioandme
Depends how fast they come in and whether or not I'm on the net.

Edit: One thing to consider is whether you want to respond to everything or give your readers a chance to respond to each other. Batches can give space for the latter to occur.
    1. offendedblogger
The new comment thingy I just added allows for me to comment to each person (or not) AND other people can comment to them, too!

It is just what I've been wanting and so far I am loving it, just working out the bugs now.

      www.offendedblogger.com
    2. clioandme
Oh. Cool. But if you respond first, will they? It all comes down to what your talking about too. Very rarely have I had the pleasure of readers address each other's comments directly. I would love to see more of it on my blogs though.

So what is this new thingy of which you speak? I don't see a link to a third-party service above, but then again, it's been a long day.
    3. offendedblogger
It is a third party service, I installed it on my blog.

It is just like here, where you hit reply to individual comments. You can upload an avatar, link to URLs and Youtubes, etc.

Hopefully it will foster a more community commenting atmosphere, it will be interesting to see what happens.
    4. clioandme
Right, but *which* service? I didn't see a link in your comments, but I could be half blind.
    5. offendedblogger
Oh! It's js-kit.com/comments/ and there is a small link to them on the page, but it is hard to see (which is not a bad thing!).
  15. ekim941
I'm not compulsive about it. I comment if I feel so inclined
  16. hepp2
I've just started blogging. Now you have me worried!
  17. earthlingorgeous
yeah I post a reply per comment too but depends if I read the comments late and there are like 2 or three commenters so I do a group reply...

and I agree I wish there was a link so they can read your reply to their comments too
  18. melisasriwulandari
Ohh... I really wish blogger will make us able to reply to comments directly, just like deviantart.
Hear that blogger! Maybe if enough of us complained, blogger will finally sit up and take notice.
  19. justisrar
even i'm here to find out the same ....
  20. radsblog
I used to do it in groups. But now I have switched to doing it individually to increase the commetns number also it'll make each of my commenters feel special that way. I'll check out the plugin, looks like a cool one.
  21. bettieblogger
you CAN leave a comment directly under your commenters post. Just reply back to them by hitting post a comment .. I do it all the time
  22. cookingasshole
I just do it whenever I read the email that I got one. If they pile up so be it. I just do the @username deal.
  23. timethief
My contribution is that I believe it's best to reply to each comment individually wherever possible.
