Responding to comments on Blogger?

How do you respond to a comment if you are on Blogger, like I am?
I used to do them in groups of 3 but now I do one comment response per commenter.
I think it's easier for them to catch my responses this way, plus, it makes my comment numbers double and that in itself draws in more people to leave a comment.
I wish there was a way to leave the response directly under their comment, though.

I end up doing them in groups, typically, addressing each person individually.
The reason for this is twofold-- I have two profiles in Blogger, one for each of my blogs. When I'm getting comments on two different sites time, I don't want to have to log-in and log-out all day into different Me's.
Also, my thrifting blog folks are speedy. So I'd be doing a LOT of individual posts. The visitors seem to get the process, though. -
Yea I usually catch the comments too since I don't get many, so I can usually leave one directly underneath. There have been a couple cases where I received multiple comments before I noticed, and then I usually address each one, in one comment, like you used to do.

I signed up for holoscan. I'm not overjoyed, but at least I get a bit more comment control there. I've started to use the edit feature to post my reply in their block in bold. It's not the greatest, but I'm not ready to try moving my blog yet.

I agree it would be nice to be able to make comments within comments..I try to respond to comments at once bu sometimes have to do them in groups, also If possible I follow the commentors link and check out their blogs

For me, it depends on the rate at which the comments appear. When they sort of dribble in, I am able to reply to each, under the original, one at a time.
But when there's a flood of them, or when they come in very quickly (Wordless Wednesday posts come to mind) then I reply to a group of comments at once, using "@" to direct a comment to an individual.
Sometimes -- again, thinking of something like Wordless Wednesday, when many of the comments just say something like "Pretty photo" or "Nice shot" -- I just say a generic thank you to all, followed by a series of "@" comments directed to people who said or asked something specific that deserves an individual reply. -
If there's a lot, I address them by name and put 'em in one. If they trickle, I do it one by one. I just re-set my comment feature to disallow anonymous comments, though. I know it will decline my comment numbers, but I was seeing some strange stuff come in on my stats. One person looked up my address from Google maps apparently and clicked over to a fairly controversial piece I did. I decided I want to know who I'm talkin' to. best, Kay

There is a way to put threaded comments on blogger. Try this service - js-kit.com/comments/
If you like the idea but have trouble implementing it, give me a shout. I've set it up before on blogger so should be able to help.-
It works great, Don. I added it to www.theoffendedamerican.com if you want to check it out.

Chelle, I always answer in groups...but then I don't have to answer 37 at a time...lol
* never thought about answering individually and uping my comment count...hmmmm
-
I usually answer in groups. Most of the time I cannot catch the individual comments as I cannot monitor 24 hours and my timezone is different to the one of most of my readers.
If I have the chance and can catch the email address I also send them a reply by email. Unfortunately Blogger makes this a bit difficult sometimes. -
Depends how fast they come in and whether or not I'm on the net.
Edit: One thing to consider is whether you want to respond to everything or give your readers a chance to respond to each other. Batches can give space for the latter to occur.-
The new comment thingy I just added allows for me to comment to each person (or not) AND other people can comment to them, too!
It is just what I've been wanting and so far I am loving it, just working out the bugs now.

Oh. Cool. But if you respond first, will they? It all comes down to what your talking about too. Very rarely have I had the pleasure of readers address each other's comments directly. I would love to see more of it on my blogs though.
So what is this new thingy of which you speak? I don't see a link to a third-party service above, but then again, it's been a long day. -
Oh! It's js-kit.com/comments/ and there is a small link to them on the page, but it is hard to see (which is not a bad thing!).
