reviving my blogs - Need suggestions

I have 4 blogs, 3 health and 1 food related. got sidetracked for about 6 months or so and quit developing writers and post.Just finished doing some redesign on 3 of them.
Most of the work going into learning about wordpress frameworks and child templates. testing on www.cookingsalmon.net. I have been informally documenting my efforts here www.cookingsalmon.net/articles/site-design-and-tech-notes
But I also have heavily customized a free template here and added a shopping cart for some products I carry. www.painrelief101.com
I would love some feedback on usability or the look of the designs.

awesome salmon website but to be honest I hate the design.
I don't feel it is very "tasteful." It needs to be edible, if you catch my drift.-
I kinda get where you are coming from, it is a blocky and structured design. It was not developed with the food slant foremost in my mind. More of a learning experience in using a theme framework and child themes. The salmon is just one that I have not tried to make money on and does not have the traffic level of the others so it was a safe site to experiment on.
