Rhode Island congress has passed an E-verify bill each of the last two years. Senate President M. Teresa Paiva-Weed has blocked a Rhode Island Senate vote on each bill by killing them in committee. RI congress has again passed an E-verify bill and, again, President Paiva-Weed is attempting to prevent our duly elected senators from voting on the bill. She is attempting to kill it in committee again. Whether you are for or against E-verify, be for our representative democracy. Email your senator and demand that the E-verify bill gets to the floor for a vote this year.

"Our representative democracy" is one that employs a system of bills being screened through committees before reaching the floor of the legislature, so your post here is a bit confusing. Is what you're actually suggesting that we should restructure--rather than support--"our representative democracy" so that every bill goes straight to the floor?

I'm not suggesting anything of the sort. I am raising another part of our respresentative democracy where the people need to be involved and tell their respresentatives how we want them to act.
