Roman Polanski the film director of films such as China Town, The Pianist, Frantic, Rosemary's Baby etc etc has been detained in Switzerland and faces possible extradition to the US.
Polanski pleaded guilty to the statutory rape of a 13 year old girl 31 years ago but fled the USA before sentencing.
Should he stay or should he go?

She (the woman) made peace with him many years ago. She is the best one to determine what should be done, not us.

I don't condone what he did.. but this thing has dragged on forever. The victim considers it done, and I do as well.
I will add though, that these Celebrities are eager to sign a petition, but wouldn't be so eager if it was there kid. He should have stood trial a long time ago and France should have sent him back as soon as they new the charges. Apparently the french see nothing wrong with his behavior.

I wrote a brief blog post about it when I read abou it. I find the whole thing more annoying than anything.
He drugged and raped a 13 year old girl. The state should prosecute him as the criminal he is. Unfortunately a judge made a boo boo by not sticking to the plea deal (judicial misconduct I think it's called) and Polanski ran to France, where he only dated 15 year olds. I find it amazing that so many in the industry are willing to forgive a man because of his talent. Any other poor sucker they would be calling for him to be in jail taking it up the you know what.-
It's an interesting situation.
If he was someone off the street that nobody knew or liked there would be a public outcry.
The abuse of children is a crime against humanity. I think what is required by a lot of people is to imagine that it was their child and then go from there.
However, I think the swiss have made an error by not dealing with it at the first opportunity years ago. What surprised me is what someone said was "He's just an old man and should be left alone".
I wonder if the Hollywood people would be happy to hand over their children to him for an evening -
I agree. He's a rapist who committed a crime against a child and was never brought to justice. I could care less how famous he is and how many supporters he has. His age does not change anything for me. He's a self admitted criminal, a child molester, and ought to be held accountable for his perverted act.

Seems like he has a few supporters in Hollywood. Wazzup?

For starters Switzerland should condider extraditing the dirty bloodsoaked money they launder...
I have mixed emotions about this...On the one hand he had a difficult life... His father survived the Mauthausen-Gusen concentration camp in Austria, but his mother died in 1942 in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Polanski himself escaped the Kraków Ghetto in 1943. His pregnant wife Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson monsters yet somehow he managed to direct some of the most epic movies...
On the other hand he put many extremely young females on his casting couch when there was no shortage of consenting adult females to choose from...
At least Jerrry Lee Lewis married his 13 year old cousin... -
Justice not revenge. Justice over punishment. Justice -- you can't have sex with a 13 year old and expect to fly. But what to do with a 77 year old genius 30 odd years after the fact? The grown-up victim, who is now 45, says, Let him go. But, 13 year olds have to be protected. The gentleman did not plea to rape but to a lesser charge, and he made the plea because there was an agreement with the prosecutors that he would get light punishment. Sex with a 13 year old is rape; she can not give consent under the law. The gentleman may not have plead guilty to any charge if he thought he was going to face serious punishment. He said he made the plea so that the case would go away. In his mind, sex with a 13 year old is not rape. We know it is rape. He should return. Punishment? Justice. Now he could return and attempt to withdraw his plea. If he gets a new trial, the case could get thrown out. Or Arnie, the Gov of Calif. could pardon him. Or he could face the terms of his plea bargain, plus time for flight.

He is a rapist and he should pay for his act. Why should he get diffetent treatment by the law and Justice? He is a man like all other on the earth but because is famous and a good film maker he DO NO HAVE ANY KIND DIFFERENT from the people who did the same.

Oh, I was going to start a discussion on this and I saw this discussion.
If anyone else raped a 13 year old girl would we really say, "oh lets forgive and forget, the victim did". No, this isn't about the victim forgiving and forgetting. Rape of a 13 year old girl needs to be punished. What kind of message are we sending? This is about the state; the people seeing justice served.
Roman Polanski admitted he did this.http://community.livejournal.com/ohnotheydidnt/39632107.html
Roman Polanski: 'Everyone else fancies little girls too'
Why is this even debatable? I am stunned beyond belief, no i take it back, this society is so frightfully disguisting. I am frothing at the mouth, this angers me so much.
70 celebrities signed a petition demanding his release!!!!!!!! what????? what????? -
Roman Polanski agreed to pay his victim of sexual assault $500,000, 15 years after he fled the US, according to court documents released to the media.

Now, in my opinion, Roman Polanski should be extradited to the US, however when the sentence is carried out, if the victim would like to be heard, than the court should honor that as they do for other victims in other cases. The fact that she has moved on from this horrible incident should not exclude her from that right.
