Why is there XML code when you click on most RSS feeds?

What's the difference between those and just a URL feed like Feed Burner?

XML: www.blogcatalog.com/group/blog-world/feed/

VS

Feed Burner: feeds.feedburner.com/RealWorldConnections-General

My RSS Widget won't accept the XML url for a feed - why is that?
