Global Warming is really worrying, not for myself but for our children. Have you got some more tips on how to save energy to add on my list? globalwarmingtipstosaveenergy.blogspot.com/

install low flow showerheads and faucets.

    install low flow toilets.

install skylights, to save on lighting costs

      thanks, really appreciate it.

growing your own vegetables is another good idea, and while it doesn't directly save energy you might not have to drive to the store as much.

Lower the temperature on your hot water heater thermostat to 100 degrees; it is the biggest energy user in your home.

Turn off everything at the wall before going to bed - with the exception of fridges, fish tanks, alarm clocks and life support machines. We managed to cut our power bill by over 50% after doing this. Also obviously only having lights on at night in the rooms we are using at the time.

    Insulate your house.

We use many energy efficient bulbs around the house. We also change our thermostat while we are at work, that seems to help a lot!

I still think this is naturally occurring global warming and that we are not the cause merely compounding the situation.

Energy saving bulbs are helpful. Though one tip if you have kids keeps those bulbs out of reach. If they break and the EPA finds out due to the mercury in the bulb (though an insignificant amount) may quarantine that area deeming it illegal for entry until you pay them to decontaminate it. And the EPA rates are not cheap either. We use energy saving bulbs though it irritates me this is used as part of a political ploy yet for some reason no seems willing to offer potential repercussions and ways to avoid them.

Look to electric appliances over gas appliances.

Also if you know an electrician (or don't mind paying for one) look at solar panels. You can hook a couple of those up to your house and likely reduce your electric usage by 20% or more depending on what you get.

Again stressing electric usage and appliances do the same for your yard maintenance tools as well - weed eater, etc.

Hot water temp. and thermostat temp. controls like other say are helpful. Though I would not go as low as 100 degrees for hot water as suggested above. Most regulation in sanitizing, etc. for like purposes would suggest 110 degrees. So lower it to 110 degrees, but not below.

If you are ever in a position to build a house - forget fiber insulation for walls and use soil. It's very effective and natural.

You can always never stress recycling enough, especially if you use plastics. Also use biodegradable products as much as possible.

For automobiles rotate your tires and regularly change your oil using synthetic oils. You should also use the more expensive gasoline as well - basically it is more expensive because it burns out more impurities and is more efficient. Never forget to replace your air filter once per year either. If you can get a hybrid vehicle do so. Either way do as much as you can to always keep the fuel economy on the vehicle as best as possible.

On a side note one thing I hope is that once these oil companies run through their reserves that they invested in that they start pushing electric vehicles, esp. considering its a resource most people have anymore in America and other industrialized countries. But unfortunately it looks like this will not be the case because of support for gas stations. Obviously convenience stores in general won't go anywhere, but for gas station dependent businesses will get hurt. What will happen is they will push energy you can still transport and distribute as we do now. This meaning hydrogen is the way we will see this situation go.

If you own industry or farm look to turbine and wind energy. If you are near a coastline there are options as well where they build energy off of waves.

Well that's enough from me for now...

And for you political nuts yes I am into saving energy, but on a personal note more for saving money. Also for reducing landfill usage. I am more concerned about the wasteful unproductive use of that land than I am of the worlds natural warming and the human irresposible response to it.

wow that was a novel, but interesting to see your point of view, I try to just do the obvious things, turn down the themostat, shorter showers, insulating where needed , turning off lights when not needed, actually I am sitting in the dark right now lol

I switched the entire house over to those new light bulbs this past winter. It's effect is unknown because at the same time, our power company's rates went up. I assume I am better off than otherwise.

Plant only perennials in the yard. They need less watering than annuals.

If you replace any west facing windows, get the ones with the UV coating. It really keeps the heat out as well as protects fabrics, furniture and carpets from fading.

Keep all curtains closed when the AC is running. It keeps the sun's heat out of the house.

Use a little toaster over or microwave rather than a full size oven if you can.

Keep your freezer full. It actually uses more energy to keep the temp down when it's not very full.

Watch tv with the lights out. Call it a "movie theater" atmosphere.

Except from turning off and switching off, I also pull out the phone before we go to bed and when there's no one at home.

Wash clothes in cold water and string up a washing line in the house or get a drying rack (for winter)
