Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was detained and questioned for two hours at the Newark Airport near here on Saturday.
The 43-year-old actor was detained by immigration officials because his name was part of a common checklist prepared since the 9/11 attacks.
The officials wanted to know why Khan was visiting the U.S. and posed other such questions, after his name popped up on the computer screen at the counter.
He was let off at the intervention of Indian Consulate officials here.
“I was really hassled at the American airport because of my name being Khan... It was absolutely uncalled for... I felt angry and humiliated,” said Khan, who was heading to Chicago to take part in an Independence Day celebration.
“It is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist,” he said.
In New Delhi, the government took up the issue with the U.S. embassy which said it was ascertaining details about the incident.

Why is such a discrimination still going on... This is a very very sad incident. Think about those common people who faces even more humiliation.

Airlines have security rules, and in my opinion you shouldn't be allowed to skip security checks just because you're a famous actor.
There's a thread about this here:

The actor, who will return to India on August 20, declined to term the incident as "racial profiling", but said it had to do with his Muslim name.
"I am always reluctant to come down here (US). They always do it and it's odd traveling alone. My guard wasn't given visa from India and I was feeling disturbed. They kept on asking silly and irrelevant questions like phone numbers and hotel number," Khan said. -
Yes i understand that airlines have security rules.. but what happened in US yesterday was unfortunate.. that is only because a "Khan" is added to his name... he was treated that way....
See what he said “It is a Muslim name and I think the name is common on their checklist,” he said.
why a muslim name on checklist,...... that's a sad part as far as i am concerned -
It is always good to go according to laws and setups of authorities.Indians are always submitted themselves for this agenda.I never think there is anything wrong in the checking and questioning. Its a part of their rules and system. But if that happened because he has a muslim identity, its poor ,i can say.Its already time to maintain the mutual sweetness all together. Then why all these?Remember, for americans and indians, terrorists are the enemies, not muslims.

It is really heartening that in the Us the rules are followed. Muslim terrorism has ruined the world and Khan title certainly arouses suspicion. In India the laxity is the sole cause of terrorism activities. After the last terrorism attack in the Us, no terrorism activities have occurred and the us authorities are to be praised for this. For what God knows in each and every terrorism activities the names of muslim people come up and the suspicion is obvious. Who is Shahrukh who wants special treatment? Just a film star and nothing. The special treatment we in India gives to these genre of people is the sole cause of their cult status.
The concept of Islamic terrorism has been snatching peace and for the real culprits, innocent people are being harassed. But for peace everyone should co-operate with the law and authorities and must make a brouhaha about this. I wish if Indian authorities learn t a bit from the Us authority.

Terrorism has no religion.. Islam is very much against terrorism as any other religion.... Terrorism is the enemy of all region and religion....
People like you connecting terrorism with a religion is the success of these bastards who spread terror all over.. Sad to know this...-
@aslam9895 this is not connecting religion with terrorism but you will not admit as you have got prejudices. Jihad, Fatwa, Imam, seclusion for all these civilization old concepts, sadly muslim people have failed to come to the mainstream. They always fall prey to the terrorists group. There is not much education as a result not much muslim people are cornering jobs. Politicians just want this underdevelopment to continue and use them as vote bank.
My dear friend pick up any newspaper and analyze each and every terrorist activities, you will find the involvement of people belonging to muslim religion. Never a fatwa is issued against these people who are being used by terrorist groups as Human bombs. Not much effort of reform is being done to bring the perverted youth to mainstream and this is the sole cause of Al queda, or jaise's success in getting fresh blood to their fold.
This is nothing but to give it a name. Very good muslim is against terrorism but regrettably, those tenets are followed in violation.
thanks
