Shameless plug - newly Designed Right Commentary in Magazine Format

I've resigned my site to be a magazine format. I found the news format too hard to maintain...
It's still rough with the old posts - but I've desiged I'm not going back and recombing 300+ posts for aesthetics.
Appreciate the look and any comments...

I'm a bit confused, seeing as it still goes for a news format. Are you saying this way you dont have to post as much news? Be that as it may, it looks good.
Also, a longish side question: I still don't get the objection to the Supreme Court's decision, though I'll be looking for more on that this week, and I'll be reading your blog post (too tired right now), but what I'd like to know is whether you think you are offering a particular political viewpoint, or if you think yours is different than some of your fellow Republicans'. In other words, I'm wondering if you see a clear ideological divide here. That's what I'm picking up in the media, and frankly, I'm kinda surprised. I would have figured this was more about our understanding of what war is and how this particular war is rather different from any others, meaning that the old rules just don't transfer over as easily. For me the Bush administration boxed itself into a corner on this one, but I'll stop. I'm just trying to figure out what intelligent conservatives are thinking. Any arguments you'd recommend reading?-
It's a magazine format... it will take me some time for the posts to change more towards a "slow rolling" versus a new oriented (daily) updating...
As for the detainee posting:
I personally feel quite limited in what I can say as I have considerably more knowledge than most - and much of it is classified.
First, I think I'm the only republican who has said "I'm not super surprised with the logic or the ruling." That makes me different...
I am not as hyperactive as most of my colleagues about bringing them to habeas. I believe a good portion of the population will remain in custody (although not at GTMO) even after their habeas hearings. Bottom line is - there are some obviously bad people locked up at GTMO who clearly fall within the confines of the AUMF and are therefore lawfully detained.
I'm quite disgusted with much of the commentary I'm seeing in the media. Again, I'm pretty limited in what I feel I can say - but - all this hand wringing suggesting KSM is going to walk - and other nonsense I've heard (particularly on Fox news) is just that - nonsense. I can't imagine for a second that any of the HVD's will get "loose" on a habeas technicality. Those guys are clearly enemy combatants, subject to the AUMF, and are lawfully detained as enemy combatants. They are also subject to trial via Military Commissions. Those guys aren't going to go free on habeas.
The problem is the category of guys who you can't necessarily try - but whom the government has asserted are members of the enemy's forces. Those are going to be the sticky habeas cases that will result in some guys being ordered to release. The consequences legally of those decisions are as of yet unclear- for example - what if their home government won't take them... can they file for aslyum?
There are as yet many unanswered questions about the detainee cases... ambiguity by the Court in this case wasn't particularly helpful. -
Yeah, I don't see anything big changing in practical terms either, except for those trickier cases. Even then, I imagine judges showing more understanding for the complexities of the issue than Fox news. I just don't imagine lots of releases. Well, I'll try revisiting the issue on my blog this weekend (I did yesterday), and when I do I'll include your viewpoint. Your impression that the court basically was telling the Bush administration that it had had its chance but enough was enough sounds about right.
If you're interested, here's my initial response, with which you'll disagree, because I talk about defending habeas corpus, whereas you see the ruling as a judicial incursion: markstoneman.wordpress.com/2008/06/13/the-rule-of-law-in-time-of-war/. The difference lies in our understanding of war and the nature of this conflict, something I've explored a little on Clio and Me, but never from this point of view: clioandme.wordpress.com/category/iraq-war/.

Nice new look! Very well organized. My one critique would be the tagline in your header.
Is it the New Vanguard of American Conservatism or the Vanguard of the New American Conservative? I know, it's nitpicky - but I noticed it straight away.
Otherwise, it looks really, really good. -
I have a similar design..though I have still have to give the finishing touches....as the blog is Blogger blog, there are certain restrictions, but I've tried to make use of even the minute feautures of Blogger, which other may not notice.... here it is:
wats-ur-opinion.blogspot.com/
But your blog is simply awesome...did you design it or is it one of Adi's themes? -
