What an absolutely gorgeous place, I might have to take up my Aardvark discount!
I would say though that I thought the cuts were a little too quick in the editing, need to give the eye more time to take in the images.
    1. gtally
Thanks, Anin! Yeah, some of the cuts do pass by rather quickly. This is due largely to my amateur production values. I don't even have a tripod yet, and am doing hand held shots on a five-year old camera. So some of my cuts are kinda jumpy and tend to bounce around. I guess I should've given each cut at least three seconds. Would've given the viewer more time to soak it all in.
    2. aningeniousname
What software did you use? The windows media maker thing allows you to lengthen the time.
    3. gtally
I use a MacBook Pro, with its absolutely incredible video editing software, iMovie. So the fault is not with the program, but with yours truly. I guess I get impatient and have a bad habit of going for those "MTV" quick cuts.
    4. aningeniousname
Not saying its bad at all though, just would have liked more time to see the images. Which is the purpose after all.
Maybe a slower piece of music would have helped with the timing of edits?
    5. gtally
Ooh. But it's a Vivaldli Allegro Trumpet section of his Double Concertos. I love the crispness of it, reminds me of winter. I should've just lingered on the shots a little longer. Have you done any editing? If so, how long do you normally hold a shot before cutting to the next clip?
    6. aningeniousname
I'm by no means an expert on editing it just seemed rushed to me that's all.
How about "La dell invito tracorsa e gia l'ora" from the first act of La traviata, it's quite bouncy and might be easier to cut too.
      www.youtube.com/watch?v=YVLlrGhqca0

I Don't think there is a golden rule but with something like this you have to really use the music as a guide, from my own personal point of view I would have liked to have seen each pic for double the length I did.
Take your time this isn't sex with the wife it's something to enjoy.

You should have a word with Polybore he is quite an expert on these matters, editing not sex with your wife obviously!
    7. gtally
Like the La Traviata. I've bookmarked the YouTube page for future reference.

The whole thing is certainly a learning process. I need to follow the "15 second rule" better when filming, so that I have more opportunities to edit in longer clips in the finished product. It's certainly a fun process, from start to finish. I plan on producing even more, as I compile enough raw footage.

And someday, I'll have to film some of those aardvark mating habits. I hear it makes for stunning footage, if not exactly suitable for the kiddies to watch.
    8. aningeniousname
Wouldn't it be easier to put photos straight into your computer rather than filming?

Aardvarks don't mate we are self reproducing, well my subspecies is.
We dig a large hole in the middle of a public car park usually at one of the larger malls. Which we then fill with torn up copies of celebrity "autobiographies" and old copies of Hello magazine. We then go into what is known in zoological circles as "An Aardvark stroking frenzy"
This creates a large lavender foam bubble encasing the the now highly sexed Aardvark within his nest. He will stay in this bubble for up to and sometimes over 25 minutes by which time he has slowed down his frenzy and the bubble has started to melt under the harsh conditions of halogen lighting and exhaust fumes.
When the foam totally evaporates BINGO! There's two Aardvarks and an argument about who will fill in the hole.

I use a mixture of stills and video. iMovie has a great feature called "Ken Burns", named after an American documentarian with a penchant for lovingly panning over still shots. I wanted some video to add in at least some kinetic motion so that it would be a little more dynamic.

I thought with lavender aardvarks, they were stuffed against their will into antiquated photocopying machines and subjected to a series of probing, bright lights and leaky toner tests, with the eventual copy degrading after each new generation and turning out a little more corrupted than the last copy. The "original" aardvark then has suppressed memories of alien abduction and badly needs to smoke a cigarette. At least this is the fairly tale my mother used to tell me...
    10. aningeniousname
That is just the myth we spread amongst your kind to avoid any lawsuits that may occur from our car park nesting activities. Even David Attenborough knows very little about the true mating habits of "Aardvarkius Lavendium"
Our mating activities are badly understood by science due to the Aardvarks extreme naughtiness under laboratory conditions.
The version I have related above maybe true or it maybe just another myth propagated by Aardvark kind to avoid legal complications and prying eyes.

I left you the shortest comment ever.

What beautiful images! But...is it STILL snowing up there?!
    1. gtally
The snow cover was actually from a few weeks ago. But the Front Range and the mountain communities have been getting hammered this weekend, erm...by snow, I mean. Although I suspect more than one shut in has passed away the Great Blizzard of April 09 with a little liquid refreshment.
  3. crpitt
Like the pink one suggests, slower tempo music and longer time on images.

    Why no snuggly bedroom shots?

    Its a lovely winter wonderland
    1. aningeniousname
      LAVENDER!!!
    2. gtally
Yes, some of the cuts needed a little longer to fully digest. And snuggly bedrooms are always available to the members of BlogCatalog!
    3. crpitt
I want to see them first
    4. gtally
Okie Dokie, cr. But no jumping on the bed!

      gtally
    5. aningeniousname
Is it just the way the photo has been taken or is that bed like a bed for a massively fat dwarf?
It looks about 4ft long and 12ft wide.
    6. gtally
This is a plush bed fit for a noble lavender aardvark such as yourself! You could lie in it all day long and eat ants and bon bons. Just don't sully the bed spreads.

The fluffy pillows make the bed look shorter than it is. And if you notice, shooting the bed at an angle is an old hotel trick. Normally it makes the bed look huge.
    7. aningeniousname
You would have to put a rubber sheet on it for me, not that I have trouble controlling my bladder anymore. I just really like rubber sheets.....and ball gags......handcuffs............peanuts.
    8. gtally
I'd heard that aardvarks like to be on choke chains and leashes. Now I know why.
    9. crpitt
No jumping at all? I am not coming.
    10. gtally
Oh, all right. You can jump on the bed. But definitely no luggage cart races with the aardvark!
    11. crpitt
I don't want to be anywhere near the pink one.
    12. gtally
Not even if we got the aardvark to lie out by the pool and work on his tan? The desert sun is pretty strong out here. Imagine the pink one with a healthy coating of cocoa butter and a nice, bronze tone.
    13. crpitt
Stick him on a spit roast and we have a deal
    14. aningeniousname
You're not spit roasting me you perverts!
    15. gtally
What do you reckon "aardvark pork" is exactly, cr -- light or dark meat? Should we drink red or white wine with our spit roasted aardvark? How about a rich honey glaze for him?
    16. crpitt
      Honey glaze definitely
    17. aningeniousname
Aardvark is classed as shellfish because we have a fishy smell, a nice dry Riesling would be bes.......Aardvarkists!!!!
    18. gtally
      (drool, smack, slobber)

We could stuff the aardvark's snout with walnuts and raisins. I hear the snout is especially tender.
    19. crpitt
      Maybe even chocolate ants
    20. gtally
I disagree with the pink donkeh. I think a Riesling would be too sweet a pairing with the gamey flavor of aardvark. I suggest a clean, slightly chilled Sauvignon Blanc to bring out the true flavor of herb-encrusted ant bear.
    21. aningeniousname
A Sauvignon blanc is too "appley" for antbear, you need a...errr....I mean stop it!!!!
    22. gtally
Maybe we should cook the antbear with red wine and onions, and make an "aardvark au vin," instead.
    23. aningeniousname
Mmmm yeah a bouquet garni and.......STOP IT!!!
    24. gtally
We can't help it if you're delicious.
    25. gtally
Anin, hold still while I braise your snout with this raspberry reduction.
  4. Arcticulates
Wow! So beautiful... reminds me of home in a lot of ways. Our snow is just beginning to melt. Thanks for sharing. I loved the water in the stream with the icy sides. Awesome!
    1. gtally
Thanks, Arcticulates. It's just like Alaska, around here. It's always easy to find amazing things to photograph or film in Colorado. We are blessed with such amazing natural beauty.
  5. HeadStones
cold but very nice. makes me miss the rockies
    1. gtally
Thank you, Headstones. It's always worth a visit to the mountains. I am much more of a mountain person than a beach person.
  6. busylizzy
Enjoyed the video. Liked the driving along, watching the trees and mountains pass by. Reminded me of my vacation last summer in eastern and southern Colorado. A few more pix, like the fireplace one, to promote your interiors is an idea.
    1. gtally
I appreciate it, busylizzy. I wanted to focus on the exterior and the snow rather than the interior. It was my attempt to let the natural beauty of the surrounding area speak for itself (and sell my property in the process). But I do like the fireplace shot, as it's supposed to "warm you up" after all that outdoor wintertime activity.
  7. idealpinkrose
It made me feel cold while watching the video but I enjoyed watching it.
    1. gtally
Thanks, idealpinkrose. I can't wait to produce even more videos in the not-too-distant future.
  8. Stillthinking
Lovely video. We just got our first truly warm day up here in Chicago. I just went for a long bike ride to enjoy the sun. Your hotel looks beautiful and luxurious.

I can't wait to see it in the full bloom of summer.
    1. gtally
Thanks, ST. I've got a spring video in the works. And there will definitely be a summer video, as soon as that rolls around.
