So what is you guys opinion. Should you change out all the light bulbs in your house for fluorescent bulbs?...I changed out my bulbs, my biggest benefit has been that I do not change light bulbs anymore.

Most of the light bulbs here at home are fluorescent. We've been using those for quite some time now.

I'm not sure that we could establish consent on the part of the tree...

oh dear god lukspencer. Is that what you call a "tree hugger"? I am glad you have changed your light bulbs but there are far far more things you really need to be doing already:

    1. put a water tank on your roof and don't use mains water except for drinking and cooking.
    2. 3 minute showers ONLY, and no baths unless you share with friends
    3. turn off all electric items at night, except for fridge and freezer
    4. heat or air-condition only the room you are using at any given time
    5. change from a petrol car to an electric or mixed car
    6. use public transport for ordinary daily use
    7. grow your own fruit and vegetables
    8. recycle all food leftovers into a compost bin
    9. install solar panels on your roof etc. etc

I am sure a bright young blogger can think of heaps of ways to help save the planet. If not for your own country, then for Australia. We are in the midst of a shocking drought and about to face another burning hot summer.

I've always wanted to install solar panels...the cost is still too high.

    1. put a water tank on your roof and don't use mains water except for drinking and cooking. NOPE
    2. 3 minute showers ONLY, and no baths unless you share with friends. NOT A CHANCE
    3. turn off all electric items at night, except for fridge and freezer. AND AC, THIS IS FLORIDA; OH AND NIGHT LIGHTS
    4. heat or air-condition only the room you are using at any given time; IMPOSSIBLE
    5. change from a petrol car to an electric or mixed car; NOT WORTH IT AT THIS POINT WHEN YOU FACTOR IN THE ADDITIONAL COST OF THE CAR
    6. use public transport for ordinary daily use PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION SUCKS IN S. FLORIDA
    7. grow your own fruit and vegetables THEY KEEP DYING B/C OF THE HEAT
    8. recycle all food leftovers into a compost bin SMELLS BAD
    9. install solar panels on your roof etc. etc PROBABLY A BUILDING CODE VIOLATION IN HURRICANE ZONE.

But, I will not strip out the catalytic converter of my car like another thread is suggesting.

I changed out my light bulbs thinking I would save money on my electric bill. I haven't saved any yet - It has been more than a year. I do quite a few things to save energy...I can see someone saving a ton of money if they leave their lights on and change over to Fluorescents.

This week will be a Catastrophic Fire Alert Day in South Australia and a High Fire Alert Day in Victoria.

One of the things conservationist, tree-hugging types should do (not quite your original question, I realise) was prepare for bush fires.
