Do you agree, along with Donald Mills, that "the problem with young people today is that they don’t know how to dress."

People should dress however they want to. Want to blame someone for the fashion? blame the people on tv and in films and magazines that promote that style.

You mean there was a time when adults didn't complain about the way kids dressed?
I heard that complaint when I was growing up, and my mum heard it when she was growing up and heaven forbid my nana cut her hair like a flapper and wear the flapper shoes (her parents tossed them shoes in the fireplace).

There is no such thing as being badly dressed.

Where it is mandatory to dress a certain way, it will be mandatory to think a certain way.

I think children should be required to wear uniforms to school. It takes the class differences away at school. Also, with inner city schools, (such as the ones in Chicago) all gang affiliations are negated at least during class hours.

Chicago has required uniforms for public school children from grade school through high school. It has been enormously popular with educators and parents.

      @Stillthinking,
I didn't really ask the question in a serious way, given that it is related to this humor blog, I do tend to agree with you here.

Hum, it doesn't totally take the class differences away (there is always ways for others to assert their class), but I do think it takes the pressure away (clothing and expenses) and helps keep the focus on the school as a place of learning.

I loved my school uniform for several reasons. Mainly I didn't have to think about what to wear, and I liked it.

ps. got to tell you we didn't escape complaints just because we were in uniform either. ahem, your hem is too short, you should do all the buttons up, you look sloppy, your dress is tucked in to tight, bla bla bla bla.

Haha, like fruitcake, I'd like to see buttcracks disappear.

So ole man Donald doesn't have a point?

Thanks for the mention. And yes, the world would be a better place if people covered their cracks!

I was so grossed out the other day on the bus coming home from the airport. It was filled with young hip hop types dressed in baggy sweats and jeans falling off their butts. On the opposite side of the spectrum, there were all these YOUNG girls dressed in skin tight, hip hugger jeans that exposed their butt cracks with muffin top and exposed mid driffs. Let's not forget the requisite tramp stamp. Ugh. I did not need to see any of that.

You know we used to call those hip hugging muffin top pants hipster jeans in the early 70's, and worn with tube tops the look wasn't that much different LOL!

As for the mini skirts, all I can say is getting up the stairs of a double decker bus was quite a challenge.

Ah, I love miniskirts. When I was in college, I lived in miniskirts with black tights. In Paris, all the stylish young women were wearing miniskirts, black tights, and flat boots. Over it, they would wear a shot black trench coat with (of course) a lovely scarf. I was inspired and am going to start wearing minis again.

I think I would scare the heck of people I tried to wear one now LOL! but oh yes, if one can get away with it, woo hoo!

"In Paris, all the stylish young women were wearing miniskirts, black tights, and flat boots. Over it, they would wear a shot black trench coat with (of course) a lovely scarf."

Yep, that's the look! Gorgeous. of course we weren't flashing thong underwear ahem!!!!

I was so impressed by how polite, well dressed, and respectful Parisiens are. No cell phones on trains. Lots of "excusez moi, merci and s'il vous plait."

When I got home, I found myself disgusted at the way Americans behave on public transportation and how sloppy they dress day to day.

I usually dressed up for work, but since I was laid off, I have become very casual. After this visit, I am going to start taking more care with my appearance again, job or not.

    miniskirts are ok

I do not and will never understand why they think it is cool to have their pants falling down to there knees. What is so sexy/exciting about having to yank your pants up every 5 minutes or having your underware stick out? Dah, you look like a dork!
    1. jafabrit
      It looks darned uncomfortable.

i think parents should dress better. they just let themselves go as if having children is an excuse to look ragged.
    1. jafabrit
yea, what is it with beer guts and undershirts, ratty jeans and flip flops and ugly toenails YAK!
    2. archiegottlieb
wow, jafabrit, you have seen some shamelessly dressed parents. hahahaha! you're absolutely right on.

I think everyone could do with a little extra effort on behalf of their looks...but the end result of that effort may not have the desired effect
    1. Stillthinking
ROTFL! So true, so true. Those kids on the bus put a lot of effort into their appearance, yet somehow still manage to look so awful.
    2. Anok
Hey I can't talk, I put a great deal of thought into my looks, and...when I look in the mirror, I realize that I still look like a weirdo who dresses funny

So eff it! Play it up!

Everyone should dress to suit themselves, rather than try to follow fashion or celebrities (especially not celebrities who seem to enjoy looking as weird as they can). That said, I agree that wearing your pants with the crotch round your knees looks bad on anyone. It's a good job all those pockets are just for show: you'd need arms as long as an orang-utan to reach them.
