Do you think the BC rating system be optional?

Do you think that the rating system is being abused in some cases and what should be done about it?

Many BC Members do not like the rating system including me.

In my view it just brings out the worst in some members who have nothing better to do than to show up
and leave you a real negative rating because they don't like you or your blog,
not to mention the fact that it helps to lower your rating score.

Most of the time this is intentionally done by other BC Members against other BC Members.

For some BC Members who are paying for premiums this can be a real drag.

I'm sure they didn't pay to see or receive negatives, most of which are totally unfair and uncalled for.

So BC Members what do you have to say about it? Let's hear from you.

@thoughtsofg....Any way you can elaborate on that?
If you drop a "NO" I will kill you lmao
    2. thoughtsofg
Haha alright. It's not that I want to avoid a lower rating or anything, as long as there is some kind of justification for it. I mean at least tell me what it is you don't like about it so I can fix it in the future... Since you can't really justify why you only gave X gold stars, it doesn't help me much. IN CONCLUSION it should be optional! *whew*
  1. Jeunelle
@thoughtsofg ...Yes very good points raised.
I feel the same, if you can't tell me why you're giving me a (1)
then don't bother leaving me your ridiculous negative rating.

I had one BC Member leave me a (1) and there was no reason.
When I emailed them for an explanation, his response was he can't stand me or my blog
and to have an aweful day. I mean WTF.

Presently I have removed the Blogs so they can't be rated but I kept my Links up
so you can visit me there if you want to visit my blog.

I just find it to be too easy for the rating system to be abused by idiots.
  2. chrisesty
I think it should be optional, as it is too easy for people that don't like you, or what your blog stands for to abuse the system. In other words, instead of rating the content of your blog fairly they give you a low rating just to be mean, or because they don't agree with your message. In my opinion, no personal biases should get in the way of rating a blog.

Moreover, I know I have been the victim of this as my rating went down dramatically after getting into a heated discussion with a few people here. And no, this isn't fair, because when a blog has a low rating it discourages people from clicking through to see it.

I have paid for premium listings, and feel that I have been cheated by this faulty rating system, because now I am not getting optimal results as a result of having a low rating. And I know that my results have been affected by this because ever since my rating went down I no longer get as much traffic to my blog as I did when it was higher.
    1. Jeunelle
@chrisesty...Fully agree that no personal bias should get in the way and it's too bad that BC allows it to continue.

I have had a few BC Members, after I left a few comments in a BC discussion leave me some nasty remarks on my Shoutbox that's presently on my website.

They didn't like the points I made to the discussion, they flat out disagreed with it
and me and this is how they later responded.

Later my ratings were also lower so yes I can see your point clearly.

The BC mafia needs to be rounded up.

Thanks for responding chrisesty, I do find it to be an easy way to abuse the system
      and BC Members.
    2. timethief
Please let's not get two very unconnected things mixed up here.
      (1) Provided our motivation is to make a donation to the community, we click the button that says "Support The Community" This donation we choose make benefits us as follows: www.blogcatalog.com/account/donate

      (2) Voluntarily making such a donation has nothing whatsoever to do with BC blog ratings and BC reviews.

      (3) Voluntarily making a donation is not equivalent to purchasing a premium service and making special demands to have rating and reviews removed because "money talks".
    3. Jeunelle
Yeah but I am not speaking about "Donations" my main concern is when I decide to get my thumbshots up and running, I don't expect to see some mean spirited attacks there in the "comments and reviews".
    4. Jeunelle
To tell you the truth, I've never even noticed the "Donations" button until you just supplied me the Link.
  3. chrisesty
For the record, I already made a complaint about this to the webmaster of BC. But I am just one voice. I think that if enough of us express our concern about this something will be done about it. But you should write to the webmaster of BC to let them know how you feel. I think that just posting in a discussion will not suffice.

By the way, even if you have a high rating, but feel that we would be better off without a rating system, or at the very least, feel that the rating system should be optional, then please let your voice be heard.
  4. Jeunelle
Yes I will send the webmaster a message and the link to this discussion as well and maybe something will be changed, it's definately worth a try.
    Thanks chrisesty.
  5. gerryPlanetEarth
The real problem is not the comical blogcatalog rating system...The real problem is the mean spirited conduct of some of the blogcatalog members..
    1. Jeunelle
@gerryPlanetEarth...Yes we have addressed that and right now there is no system in place to protect us BC Members from this kind of nasty underground negativity. I am hoping that some of you who visit this discussion may offer up some positive ideas to counteract it.
  6. CrotchetyOldMan
Forget optional. Just eliminate the numbers altogether.
I was given an 8 because someone said they don't like long posts. So why should someone's personal taste affect my score?
I prefer to have a visual with every post, so should I knock down everyone who doesn't put enough pictures for my taste?
But too many pictures annoys me, too. Looks like I'll blast anyone who doesn't have what I consider the perfect amount of pictures.
Another blog of mine was given a 5 based upon nothing at all. And the best part? It was entered twice, so even if I get 2 perfect scores in a row, I wind up with a 7.5 average. Not exactly a great score.
Allow reviews, if you wish, just eliminate the scoring.
    1. Jeunelle
@CrotchetyOldMan...Hey I'm glad you stopped by since I got this idea from you earlier from your most recent discussion.

Yes I mean why should personal bias affect our score?
That is a damn good question and when I confronted this jerk, he didn't give me
      an acceptable or logical answer.

You just raised another good point, somehow the rating thing doubles sometimes too,
so there is a glitch in the system somewhere that needs to be found and fixed.

CrotchetyOldMan I hope you will also drop the webmaster an email with your concerns.

I'm not against reviews but I am against the uncalled for scoring based on personal bias.
  7. chrisesty
    timethief,

For the record, not only did I make a donation, but I also paid more than $60.00 for premium listings. So yes, I feel cheated because of the rating system. As I had said, my traffic from here has decreased as a result of my rating being lowered from almost 5 stars to 3.4

And if you look at my reviews you will see that they are very positive. Thus, it is obvious that certain people in here have maliciously given me a low rating on the stars.

Personally, I don't give anyone less than 5 stars. And if I don't like the blog I just won't rate it.
    1. timethief
      @chrisesty
      Hi there,
I didn't know you had paid an additional $60. for premium listings. So I checked out each of your categories and tags.

      # Listed in: Christianity Religion
      # Tags: religion jesus christianity Bible God Faith

In the two categories your blog appears in #1 and #2 position respectively. When it comes to the tags in almost every case your blog is #9 although it's in #10, 14 and 20th spot under the tags.

I also checked your blog reviews.
"This blog is currently rated a 9.57 out of a possible 10 based on 7 comments."
    2. Jeunelle
The rating went up a little today because I rated it a few hours ago.
It was a lot lower earlier.
    3. timethief
In the case of chrisesty I honestly do not see a problem. To me it looks like he got what he paid for. The blog is very new and has few posts as yet. Also these ratings have no bearing whatsoever on search engine rankings, Google page rank, Technorati, etc. [shrug]

      Google page rank 0
Alexa The biblepost.com has a traffic rank of: 1,5686,481
      www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/thebiblepost.com
Google search site:thebiblepost.com/ has been indexed
    4. Jeunelle
TT....I agree it doesn't hurt the search engines but in my case
and a few other members, the biased scoring/rating is ridiculous.

Maybe if the scoring/rating system had a multiple choice response to rate the blog,
with some justified reasons why they liked or disliked the blog, that may help.
Instead of just rating it a (3) or below (1) with no reason given.
  8. Jeunelle
Any BC Member may see a blog was getting too good a Score
and simply want to bring it down lower, so they can feel satisfied and justified
for whatever stupid reason they have in the back of their puny little minds and lower your score/rating this way. It's purely a low down vindictive and malicious act.
  9. wigwam2theorem
On the other hand, some people leave 10s on everybody's blogs in hope of getting the 10 reciprocated. I wonder how common this is.
    1. Jeunelle
@wigwan2theorem...This is a very good point you raised here.
I always try to be positive in my rating and if I see that the blog is very well put together,
it usually receives a (10) from me but you don't receive a (10) from me because I want to make friends or because I want you to rate me too.

Those are not reasons why I would rate the blog a (10) in the 1st place, yet I am sure other members may rate the blog a (10) for all the wrong reasons or selfish reasons.

The funny thing is I have left a few members very good ratings based on the work I saw on their blog, they later stated to me that they were unappreciative of my positive ratings. I mean WTF.

I would also like to add that these are the same idiots that left me negative remarks on my Website Shoutbox and lowered my ratings in my BC "comments and reviews".
  10. chrisesty
    timethief,

I started out with 5 stars. It then went to like 4.8. And now I am at 3.4 It was after I got into a heated discussion that that score dropped significantly. I am not referring to the review ratings, but to the golden stars. It is obvious to me that certain people have intentionally given me a low rating on the stars. A low rating on the stars can deter people from clicking through. And I believe this has happened with me because my traffic from here has gone down ever since my rating went down.

Maybe it is just a coincidence. I don't know. But whatever the case is, I think the ratings should be optional to avoid spite ratings.
  11. chrisesty
UPDATE: I am now at 3.2

Someone is obviously being very spiteful! Is there a way to find out who is doing this? I think that whoever is doing this ought to be banned from here.
    1. Friday13
Would be nice to have some indicator of how many star ratings a blog has received and ... perhaps a list of those who've rated?
  12. Jeunelle
@Friday13...Yes it would be nice to have something that indicates who rated it and how many star ratings the blog received, also the reasons why it was rated positive
or negative in the first place. Also what can be done to improve the blog based on the positive
and negative reasons that a BC rater will or should supply while rating the blog.
It's our blogs and we should have ever right to know what our statistics are here at BC.
This will help us to determine if BC is right for us and whether or not we are wasting our time here.
  13. chrisesty
    Friday13,

I agree. Whoever gives your blog a star rating should at least be required to give your blog a review, and it should be noted how many stars they gave you. That way, you will not only know who rated you with stars, but if it turns out to be a bogus/biased review it can be reported.

Of course, it would be better to just get rid of the whole ratings system, since it is obviously too easy to abuse it. I can understand why BC has it however. After all, they do expect members to be mature and civil. Unfortunately, there are always people who don't understand what those terms mean.
  14. Jeunelle
Mature and Civil is what shows up in our discussions.
They sit in and make plans later to foil your work.
  15. chrisesty
Personally, I think the people that are doing this are cowards. They should at least leave a review!
  16. Friday13
We could do without the star ratings, anyway. I mean, how much influence does it have on our Blog Rank, anyway? I prefer 1-10 ratings over 1-5 ratings, myself, as well as some actual comment or reason for the rating. Constructive critique. Stuff for improvement.

I really, really, really doubt my rant-blog-journal-thingy deserves that 5.0 average (then again, there's no indicator on how many have rated, so it might be the result of one person's vote), so I have my doubts on whether it properly reflects the perceived quality of its design and content.
  17. cooper
I rarely look at them, You know why I've seen some high rated blogs here which honestly are pretty bad. I don't see the system as being meritorious. I find rating systems where random people can pass by and rate you rather useless. They don't have to even read your blog. Frankly I've rated a couple people, very few, but would probably rate people I like a 10 just because I like them. It's not a really a true meritorious system.

So why people worry about it is beyond me.
    1. Jeunelle
@cooper...Well some people do worry about it as they want to keep their blog in good standing and want to receive visits to their blog.
You're right they don't even have to read the blog to rate it and the system sucks.
      Totally useless.
    2. cooper
It maybe because I don't use this place for traffic, and my traffic came long before this place existed, but I still can't see why standing in the system they have now even matters. Rating blogs is a rather dubious thing these days with millions of blogs and so forth the best way to find good blogs is through recommendations not ratings.
  18. Jeunelle
    Great points raised cooper....Agreed.
  19. Jeunelle
So BC Members what do you think about this?
Should personal bias affect our score/ratings?
  20. annaswan
A possible compromise would be to make the star rating system no longer anonymous. It might curb the urge to use the system based on emotions and anger, and in the even someone DID do it anyway - their identity would show, and their nature and intent.
    1. Jeunelle
      @annaswan...Right on sister.
I mean why protect and harbor these fools?
Expose them to the public so people can see their true colors and character.
  21. globalgirl
It would be a great idea to have the rating system optional for any BC member. I also like the idea of "raters" giving a reason, with their BC member name and email, and the ability for the blogger being rated to give a response to the rating! Why not? (Ha! This would stop any immature "retaliation" and give bloggers the chance to reply!)

I've heard from other BC members that there has been mean spirited attacks on their rating system (how they know, I don't know), and they have sent an email to webmaster@blogcatlog.com or a shout to TonyB or Angela to have it investigated.

Indeed, the star rating system is an unnecessary/ridiculous feature, IMO. It has too many flaws right now and not enough controls.

That being said, a great feature would be allowing visitors to see the number of people in one's neighborhood (or how many readers a blog has from blogcatalog). Right now, people can see avatars, but I am referring to the number, like 5, 10, 15, 30 our of the number allowed. (What is the max number visible on the reader widget anyway?)
    1. Jeunelle
      Hi globalgirl...Nice hearing from you.

Yes I do agree with what you've just listed here and also require them to leave a legitimate review could be another step we could take to prevent the mean spirited attacks.

Personally I knew that I was a victim of it since I saw the negative remarks
made on my Shoutbox, also that person left me a (1) for a rating.

Later when I emailed him to ask (why), his response to me was "he can't stand me or my blog
and to have an aweful day".

That is not a good enough legitimate reason for you to leave me a low score/rating....
that to me is purely unacceptable.

You're personal bias and personal hatreds should have nothing to do with you rating my blog.

This is not the 1st episode of a mean spirited attack that I have received here at BC concerning scoring/ratings but just one of many.

We need to do something to improve the star ratings, it has too many flaws and not enough controls like you said. Thanks for responding.
  22. chrisesty
    annaswan,

I agree that their user identities should be made known. However, I think we should take it another step and they should be required to leave a legitimate review.
  23. thegoodknife
Been pretty busy this weekend but just wanted to jump in and say that we have been working on an update to the rating system thatcplaces more emphasis on written reviews and possibly doing away with the one click ratings. Thanks for the feedback guys we will put it to good use
    1. annaswan
      Wow How cool is that???
    2. globalgirl
You guys really do listen to the community, don't you?

      Thanks!
    3. poisonapplesauce
that would be awesome the one click ratings are killing me
    4. rainforestrobin
I am REALLY glad to hear this as I am getting spammed too. I don't really like the star rating either and I would like to have it where you get to leave only ONE written review per site. As a guy left me a very low review and it did twice within a couple of days. And it wasn't really a review. He did it to several top blog sites that are excellent sites. In fact most of his reviews were on top sites and he left a VERY low rating. That gets a bit suspect to me. And is discouraging for anyone who is really trying to be a "wholesome" part of this community.

Unfortunately, although the star ratings may only count for 1 or 2 points they are highly visible and accessible for spammers and angry people who just want to put someone down. The star rating is also more immediately visible to the public. Someo who must not like me must have hit mine a lot of times and very suddenly as it dropped in the space of an hour.

Another option is that written reviews must be over so many words, so that weeds out the people who want to just drop in and write: "Fantastic blog!" And then they rate you a 6. LOL It happens. So that is a bit suspect too. Especially when they do it two in a row.

I really appreciate you BC crew for being open to this and re-thinking things. Because there are those of us who really do try to touch lives and be part of this online community and it's important to many people. It's their home away from home so to speak.

Thanks for all your help and the open mind.
      Robin

    @thegoodknife....YOU ARE THE BOMB....Thanks man.
    This is great news. HOOORRRAAAAYYYY.
A special thank you to the BC Members who responded to this discussion.
If you have any further concerns, please drop them comments below.
  25. Arcticulates
I agree with the star ratings, mine is not bad, but it doesn't make sense for it to be there.

I really would like to see the written review requirements to be more refined, maybe a list of things that need reviewed, like original content, color schemes, navigation, links working, and over all appearance etc. with a couple of words on a post or photo they seen in the blog to the author... 1-10 grade with 10 the highest like it is now.

Also it would be nice to have a BC widget that we could add to our blogs with the reviews on it with the reviewer's avatar with link back to the reviewer's blogs..

That would encourage reviewers to find something they like about the blog they choose to review.
    1. Jeunelle
@Arcticulates....Wow you go girl. I haven't even thought of half the helpful ideas you just took the time to list here. Great ideas.
Yup I'm liking what you just added here.
Love the widget idea too, that would be SUPER for our blogs.
    2. Arcticulates
I really think the 10 point review section would be utilized more if people had an idea of what to look for during a review. I didn't until I started it and did a bunch, now I pretty much know what to look for.

Tho even then some take advantage, but if the administrators took a strong stand with vengeful or retaliatory reviewers, and if there is a compliant and the admin check into it and found the reviewed has a legit complaint they could remove it just like on the discussion posts here, and if there is consistency then it discourages most vengeful or retaliatory reviewing.

Oh! Sorry Admin... Seriously I am not dreaming up more ways for you to have to work..
    3. globalgirl
      Arcticulates, those are great ideas.

      Jeunelle, you go girl.
  26. Jeunelle
@Arcticulates...Exactly...those are good points and I know you really take the time to visit and rate blogs because I usually see you've already made it to a blog that I am about to rate, so yeah I think you know what you're talking about.

    Globalgirl right on sweet sista.
  27. chrisesty
UPDATE: I am now at 3.1 stars

At this rate I will likely be in the 2s by next week. Interesting isn't it!
  28. irtiza104
actually i dont know much about this rating system.....

    so....
  29. Jeunelle
@chrisesty...Yes I find it real interesting that someone's intent is to drop you down to their level. This is why I removed my Thumbshots from BC until the BC Admin improves the system. At least according to "thegoodknife", they are aware that the system needs improvement and that they are working on it. Hang in there chrisesty.
  30. blogonsmog
There is definitely something going on. I don't really understand how it works but I am wondering what the connection is between reader comments and rank (out of 10) and the 5-star ranking system where you just click on a star. My 5 star rating started dropping from 5 and is now down to 3.7 today. I noticed the dropping rating after I posted a so-so comment on someone's web-site and a run-in with another person.

Ratings of this type are definitely subject to abuse.
    1. Jeunelle
@blogonsmog...I am glad you took the time to voice your complaint and/or concerns here in this discussion.
Looks like Admin is aware of the problem and is attempting to do something about it.
You are right something is going on and the issue needs attention.
      Nice to hear from you.

I see that thegoodknife says the star rating system will be removed. I'm okay with that. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/should-the-bc-rating-system-be-optional#c...

As far as the idea of developing a template or system for those who reviewing blogs under the 10 point system goes, IMO making reviewing that onerous will simply deter members from rating blogs at all. I have my own system and I have reviewed quite a few blogs (4 pages worth)and intend to do many more. I tend to rate from the point of view of finding the best things about the blog and emphasizing them. I note that there is a report button that we can use to notify Admin about reviews we have problems with and I really can't see any need for anything more than that.
    1. Jeunelle
@timethief...That sounds fine to me too.
      I'm glad...Hooorrrraaaayyyy
I guess we'll later see what comes of it.
    2. thegoodknife
the star rating system won't necessarily be removed, we are modifying the system to combine the star ratings and written reviews in such a way that those who want to rate a blog are likely going to be held accountable for their rating and required to make a written comment.

This new system will hopefully help prevent members from rating sites inappropriately, allow authors to review and report any inappropriate comments, as well as provide more value to the author and the BC community as a whole in allowing us to generate more data about the quality of a blog and relation between blogs.

We are still knee deep in the planning stages for these changes so if you have any suggestions or comments please let us know. There is a whole lot of great insight in this thread and using the feedback to continue to tweak and improve what the final product will be.
    3. poisonapplesauce
maybe instead of a forced comment or feedback, there could be a feature similar to the viewer widget in which they have the option of either writing a review or having their avatar by the rating (example: the most recent raters are and they gave ___ out of blank ___). That way those who genuinly like a blog but do not feel like commenting can still rate but the author will then be able to contact them via avatar click. Does that make any sense? I don't mind the star rating so long as there is a way to identify who does it, be it an avatar or comment
    4. thegoodknife
that does make sense and it's something we are considering. I personally like being able to quickly rate good and bad blogs i find on BlogCatalog.
    5. timethief
      @thegoodknife
To be clear I have no problem with the system as it is. I can happily and quickly rate blogs (stars) and review them as well. However, I hear that others do have problems.

Although I could be wrong, what I read between the lines is that some members may be under the impression that we are obliged to only rate and review blogs that we like. If that's so then I disagree. I believe that kind of thinking is off base and if that's the practice then I say it's skewing the possibility of having a system that has any integrity at all.

Something else I think I might be hearing is that some bloggers paid for premium services that have nothing whatsoever to do with ratings and reviews, but they expect that masking that payment for other services somehow makes their blogs immune from peer review. If that's the case, then I say that it's wrong thinking on more than one level.

I review blogs period. I review them whether or not they belong to my "friends" and I call them as I see them. When I review a blog and find the blogger rarely ever posts, purports to act on behalf of an organization that does not exist, has an About page that's been under development for two years, has no contact information, has posts appear to be re-blogged news that lack any unique content, has images that have no credit given to the original source, and has advertising the blog appears to me to be kept only for the purpose of collecting advertising income, etc. I state that in my review clearly and bluntly. By doing so I have offered a service as the blogger now knows what to considering changing to improve their blog.

Ultimately whatever changes Admin chooses to make will probably be fine with me because I have no trouble justifying the ratings I give out. However, IMO if the system is made to onerous then many members simply will not choose to review and rate blogs at all.
    6. thegoodknife
Thanks TT i feel the same way. I would like to see more reviews that provide ways for the blogger to improve their blog, not just pat them on the back. I want to see bad blogs get bad reviews, just like you would want to see bad products to get bad reviews. As long as a rating is justified, it should be left on the listing, if its just made out of spite or ill will it should be removed.
    7. timethief
As long as a rating is justified, if its just made out of spite or ill will it should be removed.

Agreed. Something that members may not twig to is that it is our responsibility as members to insure that our community is a good one. That means helping each other to improve our blogs, and it also means alerting Admin to dubious blogs as well.
  33. Jeunelle
Well I just want everyone to know that right now I am on strike.

I have long removed my Thumbshots from BC because of the mean spirited attacks.

When I do decide to get my Thumbshots up and running again, I don't expect to see
some mean spirited attacks there in the "comments & reviews".

Like I said earlier in the comments above, I'm not totally against reviews
but I am against the uncalled for scoring/rating based on personal bias.

Your personal bias should have nothing to do with you rating/scoring the work seen on my blog.

It's ashame that I had to remove the Thumbshots and loose all my good scoring/rating
that other BC Members took the time to leave me.

Usually my blog received between a 10-8 rating/scoring, not bad at all.

However, I am glad that I had this discussion and helped to raise it to the attention of the BC Admin and get other BC Members involved, so it wasn't totally in vain.

Also I am sure that this wasn't the 1st time this Topic was brought up.

I can't wait to see the future improvements to the BC scoring/rating system.

I would like to thank all those BC Members who took the time to leave comments.

Well, the system isn't perfect but what system is? Personally, I know there's a lot of people who don't like me even though I think I'm pretty friendly, goofy, whatever.

And just because someone gives you a bad rating or a half ass one, doesn't mean they don't like you, maybe they're just giving their real down-to-earth opinion. Must people don't because they don't want to hurt peoples feelings. But we're all bloggers and constructive critism is a must, that's the only way we know how to improve, right?

Anyways, I never really paid mind to the rating system because it doesn't stop people from visiting my site or not. Plus, there are other ways people can get back at you besides just giving you a bad rating because they don't like you, nahmean?

I have a question for "thegoodknife" if he happens to pass through here in this discussion again.

My question is... I am hearing from other Social Networkers outside of BC,
that you do not have to be logged into BC to give a BC Member a star rating.
Of course I don't know if or how true this is but here is the question.

I am wondering if this is true and if it is true should they be given access to BC Members Blogs
to rate when they are not a BC Member to begin with?
    1. thegoodknife
yes, that is true most of the people reading blogs on blogcatalog are blog readers who are not logged in so we use the star ratings as a way to let them easily participate in rating blogs, however their ratings do weigh less and in the whole blogrank scheme these ratings probably only account for about 1 or 2 points.

However, keep in mind we are currently in the process of relaunching the blog ratings and reviews, and i think you may want to hold your opinions until we can launch the beta in a week or so as it should resolve most of the concerns voiced in this thread.

One complaint I have about the star rating is that it is not evident that you are rating simply by clicking on a star. I initially thought that clicking on the stars would take me to a rating screen, perhaps with summary of how many raters and distribution. I realized in hindsight that I had actually rated myself. So I did at least one inadvertent click, not even sure what star I clicked on.

Also I would like to add that quite a few Bloggers
that "ARE NOT" Members of BC, told me that they can also Rate BC Members
and that they don't even have to Log into BC to Rate the Members.
This I find kind of appalling but not sure if that is true either.

I don't f*****' care what people think or how they rate my blog. If I went whiney every time someone posted a negative about me or my blog, I'd have no time for the really important stuff: blogging!
    1. offendedblogger
Hey, I take offense to that. I worked hard on those negative reviews of your blog you b*****d!!!
    2. offendedblogger
I mean, yeah I totally agree.
    3. Jeunelle
@humorsmith...You are entitled to your opinion.

However this discussion is showing that most members would like improvements
      to the scoring/rating system.

I'm sure most BC Members don't consider it to be necessarily whiney to want to keep the blog that they worked hard on in good standing with good score/ratings.

Also we are discussing Members who rate our blogs out of pure malice and personal bias,
so yes the systems needs some improvement.

According to the goodknife, the BC Admin is taking steps to improve the system
and I await to see the improvements later when it's completed, any improvement will be most welcomed by me.

SORRY! I meant to post this here. Not above.

I am REALLY glad to hear there are changes coming as I think I am getting spammed too.

Someone who must not like me must have hit mine a lot of times and very suddenly as it dropped in the space of an hour.

For some people it's their home away from home so to speak.

Thanks for all your help and the open mind.

@Robin....Right on girl, heck I certainly hear ya.
It's good to have you come out and let your voice be heard.
This is what active participation in a community is really about.
Thanks for taking the time to respond, letting us know how you feel.

bumping this thread to let you guys know that we have gotten rid of the one-click ratings. The rating on the top of your blog detail pages now reflects the rating from the written reviews of your blog.
    1. timethief
I noticed the star ratings had disappeared. Thanks for letting us know they are officially history now.
  39. harleyblues
I am a paying member of blog catalog and I rarely get reviews..

I guess people donot like my blog...sniff sniff

    1. thegoodknife
a good way to get reviews is to review others.

    @harleyblues
Off topic: You are on my BC friends list. I have done over 100 BC blog reviews for my BC friends and I have a total of 294 to do. I love the Beatles music. Please post to this thread so your blogs are in the queue and I'll get to them ASAP www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/blog-reviews-bc-friends-only

Hi guys, just passing through today and I just noticed that the one click star ratings have disappeared. This is great news for starters. Hoorraayy.
    1. timethief
Yes the system has been revamped. I sure hope you are coming back soon because I miss you here on the forum. I'm tired of the repetitive religious threads, and the resident trolls and their yada, yada, yada. I'm ready to have some fun so let's rock!
  42. BennyGreenberg
On BC- Clothing should be optional... wait - most people are already doing that
    1. timethief
Shush ... or the next thing you know there will be a web cam and skype group forming and issuing invitations for members who are aimed at verifying that allegation.
    2. BennyGreenberg
me thinks the lady doth protest too much
  43. Jeunelle
Well I may now have to re-word my profile page from
"I'm on strike" to "I'm back".
    1. TonyB
      Great to see you again!
  44. Jeunelle
@TonyB....Thanks Tony, great to be back.
