Oh spare me. Let me draw a picture that visually represents a measurement of physics calculations (as the calendar does) and see if I can get people in an uproar because I ran out of paper.
    1. sohit4real
just a calculation can end life on EARTH???
      MADE MANY YEARS BACK..
    2. Norski
This is a baiting thread, right?
    3. alexmcone
What does a baiting thread mean exactly ? I'm new to blogging and forums ...
    4. ekim941
      It seems to be working
    5. Norski
baiting thread - I may not have the term right.

It's a thread that starts with something calculated to stir outrage, and/or intense (and poorly-reasoned) responses.

      In politics, it might be:

Obama likes watermellon! or McCain will kill your grandmother!

I shouldn't joke. Those might actually show up.

There are others, and 'the world will end' is the sort of emotion-laden topic that fits the pattern.
    6. ekim941
Boxers or briefs. That could get ugly
  2. offendedblogger
Um, I don't even pay attention to my own calender most of the time, so no, I don't have time to worry about the Mayans and theirs.
  3. Norski
The Mayans did, and look where it got them.
  4. sohit4real
all u may telling of the proofs of calculations and graphs..
BUT did they make sense today??
in 2007..we are living in science age.....

but if any valid proof please show on my blog..as my friends eger to know it clearly and valid

On the off chance that you're serious about this:

The Mayan Calendar thing is the most recent of dozens of 'end-of-the-world' fads that I've encountered.

If you're genuinely worried, don't be.

These things seem to follow a pattern:
      • The end of the world is coming in so-many years (generally, less than 10, but more than 1 or 2)
      • There is PROOF!!!!!
      • And you can read all about it in my book
The only significant change in the pattern has been the price of the book.

It's not a bad scam, for someone who wants to sell books and isn't burdened by a conscience.

That didn't take long: I found a book, "The Mayan Calendar and the Transformation of Consciousness" - the author may be sincere, but my observation about the 'end of the world' stuff stands.
  5. alexmcone
    End of the world ? 2012 ?

    Yawn.

Been there, done that. Whats on HBO ?
  6. globalgirl
I work with Mayans in Guatemala and many don't even "believe" in the Mayan calendar as a great many are Catholic, Protestant, Charismatic or Pentecostal. In fact, the irony is that your apt to find to find a greater percentage of "new age" gringos who "believe" in the Mayan calendar than Mayans themselves.

Although I don't "believe" in the Mayan calendar, I find the Mayan religion and folklore interesting, especially as I've been working amongst and helping Mayan communities.
    1. sohit4real
agree with u..i too find it interesting
  7. legbamel
Bah! The end of the world is always nigh. I say, if it isn't willing to commit to being imminent, then I've got better things about which I can worry. [Mutters under breath about commitment-phobic apocalypse.] [Turns on the news to see if any nasty asteroids have been discovered in the last five minutes.]
    1. alexmcone
Speaking of asteroids ... isnt there one coming our way by 2021 ?
    2. Norski
      alexmcone,

      See the next comment.
    3. globalgirl
I think that doomsdayer is dyslexic.

Space aliens may get us first.

The attack has already begun: "Under attack: The owner of a house struck five times by meteorites fears aliens are targeting him" www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=5...

    Beware! Beware!
(his floating hair! and weave a circle 'round him thrice, for he on honeydew has fed, and drunk the milk of paradise)
    1. alexmcone
I'd rather we get destroyed by aliens than some prophesy that'll make us look stupid in the end.
    2. Norski
      Right!

At least with space aliens, we'll go down fighting.

Don't fire until you see the green of their teeth!
  9. sohit4real
    asteriods will come by 2029
    but that is far
    predicted by a scientist
but thats not the question here
    its abt mayan calender
    1. Norski
      How about this:

Space aliens made the Mayan calendar.

      Works for me.
  10. Norski
Sorry, but I have to check out now.

There's a lunch to be grilled.

    Happy paranoia, everyone!
  11. sohit4real
Space aliens made the Mayan calendar.

na na just equal to joke
  12. fivestarliving
Being human we are easily manipulated and controlled by fear. The 2012 controversy is no exception. The Mayan calendar is a day calendar, and we can gain much from the understanding of each glyph and its interaction with the number days. What do we gain from this? A focus on the moment, who and what we are right now. Make the most of what you are today. The body is temporary, whether its time ends collectively in 2012 is not for us to choose (individually). mayancalendar.yinyangpower.com
  13. LGramlich
OMG! My current calendar ends Dec. 31st of this year! What if that one's right??? (/sarcasm)
  14. sohit4real
that wHat i say..CALENDERS DO END AT 31ST BUT NEXT DATE IS 1 JANUARY...SO MAYAN CANT BE TRUE
  15. Bayho
Mayan had predicted a lot of the occurences that has been happening throughout life. Such as the great depression and the world wars. On the calender 2012 the line completely drops off the charts. some people think the world will end. but maybe it will end for the MAYAN CIVILIZATION. Not ours. There has been over 600 hundred world ending predictions (including y2k and 1999) and yet we are still here today. The bible also states that "No man can determine the hour or day the world will end". Yet that it's in the old testament. (= We'll all be here celebrating XMAS on 2012
  16. DangerMouse
You're kidding right?! There's another two threads on this topic which I believe to be active as I type!
  17. sohit4real
i agree with bayho..abt his beliefs of bible and other predictions...
but the rumors are very string and its disturbing the mind of low class peoples
  18. Hermster
Well, we believe in the Gregorian calender (what we use today) and the Mayan calender was over 100 times more accurate than the Gegorian calender. Strange but true. Their long count calender knew the exact date of the lining up of our solar system with our Milky Way galaxy's center point. This occurs only once every 26,000 years. Now, the Mayan never said that the world would somehow be destroyed. However, it was a point of transformation for them. The larger question for me is WHERE did they get this advanced knowledge from? The Mayan people didn't even have the wheel yet? Strange but true.
  19. lotusb
I think we can all agree that the Mayans, like many cultures, have their fair share of amazing accomplishments AND idiocies. I belive this to be an idiocy.
  20. Hermster
Idiocies? The Mayan calender is anything but foolish & stupid. It's the most accurate calender ever developed on earth. Hmm
  21. sohit4real
    MANY CALENDERS ARE there
some fears some says foolish to talk on this topic

BUT why this has emerged so strong the people believing it blindly

the things that gone true in past might PROVE wrong in future,
  22. sohit4real
is there any1 with any further beliefs or support to above saying
  23. 22050hz
The calendar ends because it was made in a stone circle and there was no more room to carve the new era. It was possibly meant to be replaced by a new one. The calendar symbolizes the end of a cycle and another one begins, and thats all.
  24. sohit4real
So we conclude the new cycle or a calendar will begin and our life wont end on earth
  25. freeatlast
I'll have ANOTHER birthday on that date, so yes there is something to worry about, or celebrate in my case. It's been shown that the year 2012 has been mistranslated... but from what I can tell, people obsessed with this kind of thing believe what they want to believe.
  26. sohit4real
I hope your birthday removes the misconception from others mind..
  27. greencurmudgeon
The worst performing business is predicting the apocalypse. So far they have a 100% failure rate.
  28. sohit4real
any new views in this matter the year is 2009,,,
