No doubt that most people are aware of the whole electoral issue surrounding Zimbabwe and what that tyrant Mugabe is doing to that country.
In a few days the ICC (International Cricket Council) is going to meet and decide on the future of Zimbabwe Cricket. It is likely that they will not be kicked out amazingly enough as the Indian Cricket council (BCCI) along with the support of some other Asian countries will back Zimbabwe to stay in. In my view this is disgraceful and they should be banned ASAP.
What are peoples views - should they be banned or do politics and sport not mix? If you have time check out my blog on the issue:

I don't think sport and politics make good bedfellows. It would be illogical to hold the Zimbabwean cricket team accountable for the actions of their president. While players/teams may refuse to play against a team for their own reasons, I don't think it is fair to ban Zimbabwe from the ICC.

it would be if the sport wasnt so intimatley tied to the political regime - Mugabe is the patron of cricket in Zim. A lot of the best cricketers in Zimbabwe have fled the country, or refuse to play due to the racial selection policy in Zimbabwe.
Lets not forget the sporting boycott of South Africa during the Apartheid era which sent out the message that their system was reprehensible.

I dont think ICC will banned a country team. Cos cricket is played by few countries. If so, it will be just for sometime

I second that he should be tried. But I also feel that there should be a sporting ban until the regime changes and there is some genuine democracy.

In general I understand decoupling sport from politics; however, this situation is so extreme that I think a ban is necessary. And who are these cricket players? No ties to the regime?

    nope..
cricket should prevail at any cost

i'm not sure how seriouly i should take your response. at all costs? so human rights etc are irelevant when compared to cricket?

Yes, there should be a ban - at the very least.

ban, but it is more symbolic than anything. The players - if they oppose the regime they should understand, even though they may not like it, if they support him, who cares what they think.

I'm an ex-Zimbabwean and whilst I hate everything Mugabe stands for I don't think our cricket team should be peralized. The guys work hard at their sport and Zimbabwe needs heroes to lok up to. Preventing our team from playing internationally is only going to deprive the young guys of peace time role models, without which they'll just start looking up to the thugs and gangsters who go round butchering people. DON'T BAN ZIMBABWEAN SPORT!

I agree with Carl Galloway's assessment and keeeping lines of communication open is important in achieving a peaceful resolution to the Mugabe situation...

Yes they should. There is only a false line between sports and politics.

We refused to play the S African apartheid era team so I think it's justified. Playing them gives a sort of respect to the regime.
