I don't know about you guys - but I'm really tired of labor unions. They had their place 80 years ago but now? Really? I'm a person who has worked 103 hours in the last 9 days - I get no overtime, I get no additional days off, I don't get paid if I don't work - it's called earning my salary. Unions wreak havoc on the company I work for, the automakers, electricians, etc.... Wouldn't these people rather have a company that's still afloat rather than fight to be paid even if they don't work???? They want wage increases while the rest of us have frozen salaries?? Give me a break and disband already!

I grew up dealing with the Teamsters - my grandfather started a trucking company in the 1920s - he was friends with Jimmy Hoffa, he used to grease the wheel as well as anyone. Unions are a pain in the ass and have far outlived their usefulness.

I would say that with regard to the large industrial unions, it is largely true that they have outlived a great deal of their usefullness. Toyota's workers seem to do OK without a union for example.

That being said, it seems that their are numerious menial trades where the unfortunate of society are exploited and deprived of their legal rights as workers, because the burden of stringent government regulation seems too great. In such instances, it seems that greater ability to organize would provide a societal (rather than governmental) solution to such problems.
