Okay - so I've upgraded my WP lots of times. Usually its a bug fix here... a little feature there.

Well - last night, I upgraded to 2.5. It completely blew up my site. I mean - KABOOM - total loss of functionality.

After struggling until 2AM - I gave up and asked the pros who run my WP hosting to fix it. They did - and upgraded me to WP 2.5.

Perhaps someone here would like to tell me what's so great about the new version. I love WP - I think its very powerful - but I don't know why the new version is so super-fab.

Does anyone use something else? I've heard Joomla is pretty powerful... I like Word Press - I've spent quite a bit of money now on hosting - upgrades - etc - and theme work... so I'm not going to change... but I'm curious as to what others think.

I have used wordpress personally and professionally. I love it and know how flexible it really is. I played around with drupal a little and wasn't a fan and I haven't really heard too many good things about Joomla.

I've used Joomla for sites that require more than Wordpress can provide. My company Intranet is Joomla+Community Builder.

For MOST stuff, Wordpress is more than adequate.

When you did your WP 2.5 upgrade did you remember to do the database upgrade? Most people who had to blowup the way you describe forgot that step since the last several upgrades have not required a DB upgrade.

Maybe its a good idea to start from the scratch with wordpress 2.5. I tested personally and I don't like how they placed everything. The write section might be good but the rest its a mystery!

Well - I solved the problem (my site is up) - by ultimately paying my hosting company to fix the problem... it probably was a database upgrade or something like that. I tried to follow the instructions - but it dorked up anyways.

Mine worked fine on my newer blog. I didn't do my oldest blog yet I'm afraid. My auto plug-in update didn't work so I sent a trac to the WP place with my error log to see if it is a bug or not. I believe I'll do a manual install at my older site, the one I did was the automatic upgrade and possibly it is just better to do it by hand.
I don't like the panel I installed fluency.
