So who likes Ann Coulter?

Or Rush Limbaugh? Or any of the conservative talk radio personalities? What do you think about their antics, the things that come out of their mouths, and their political commentary?
I will say that I get a masochistic sort of pleasure by listening to their radio shows....on the other hand, it gives me material to work with on my blog. I seemed to have fallen into a routine of picking one out, and ranting a bit on my blog about it. It started with Ann Coulter and the infamous "Perfect the Jews" remark she made, then went on to Bill O'Reilly, and his obsession with devil worshipers and blogger, on to Laura Ingraham, because she's well....I don't think I can say that here....and back to Ann Coulter and now, new for 2008, Rush Limbaugh!
It amazes me however, that Don Imus gets booted for racial remarks, and yet the talk radio hosts that I've listed have said much, much worse things - and still, here they are! Well, maybe they won't be for much longer...

I think I wrote a post or two about her way back in college on Blog Critics, or maybe it was my blog, can't remember.
My personal feeling is the less attention she is paid the better off we all are. I have seen her in debate, and believe me she is not very good, unless she is surrounded by people who believe as she does. She does not come up with information to back her positions so it's best she talk in front of those who do not require such of her. I also believe she panders to a specific audience for profit more than anything, if the profit wasn't there she would be pandering her propaganda somewhere else, maybe even to the left.-
I agree, but I have read her writing, and while she may not be quick on her feet, she sure has a talent for twisting facts to make them fit her point.
I remember reading one article...I think it was about the Larry Craig "incident" and her logic was so circular it made me dizzy. But she uses just enough fact to make it seem legit.
Anyway, I think it's funny that they have begun alienating their own audience.
Ah, I wonder how all that crow is gonna taste....

Oh happily ignorant me. I don't think I've ever heard her. And I've only heard Rush recently, because his anti-McCain lambasts have been newsworthy because of their inability to stop McCain.

It was Connecticut, lol. It was some time ago, I vaguely remember her making a couple of good points and then really being unable to stand up to her rhetoric, it was weird though, I'm going to have to try to find the post which my be gone because I was on blogger at the time, but I remember it seemed like Franken was actually feeling sorry for her and actually protective of her as she stumbled around in front of the very liberal audience.

The first couple of times I read Ann Coulter's pieces, I think it made my brain implode a little.
I'm not really a ragey sort of person, but I definitly wanted to slap her about the head with a fish for trying to use hate and "humor" to misinform and obfuscate. I've forced myself to not pay attention to her work because frankly, it's not worth sending my blood pressure through the roof.
Unfortunately, it seems she's set a bit of a trend and a standard for others who don't care what they say, as long as they get attention.-
I think thats what bothers me most, you hit the nail on the head - the mixture of hatred and humor....
To me, when I read or hear whats being said by the more vocal participants of that brand of commentary...what I see is a thinly veiled attempt at the use of humor to cover up the hateful comments - which is the true intention or sentiment.
Some people think it's funny, but I find the misuse of information, partial logic, and this hate-humor crawls right under my skin. -
And I think it's the humor element that confuses the easily-swayed that what she's saying is acceptable. Or true.
Also, her positions are such that she's almost bound to take the Devil's Advocate position on anything. Like her whole idea Joe McCarthy was a swell guy-- just misunderstood. If you looked at her comments as a Big Picture, she ends up contradicting herself with her own opinions.
But I guess the folks who buy into her schtick aren't that analytical to see it.

For a long time, I was mostly familiar with Coulter by reputation and her portrayal in Tom Tomorrow's This Modern World comics. (Complete with her token "Wouldn't it be hilarious if all the liberals died?" sense of "humor.") I finally saw that clip when she was talking about how the Jews should be "perfected" on Donnie Deutsch on Youtube the other day, and I was rendered pretty speechless. I mean, rarely would I seriously recommend something along the lines of "kill it with fire" in solving society's ills or dealing with problem individuals, but... well, it's a good thing most people don't respond to that kind of ad hominem garbage, right? Right?

ann coulter, rush limbaugh, sean hannity.... while all entitled to their opininos, do not represent all of us in the republican party. it is just like the loons on the far left who hijacked the democratic party in '00 and '04, helping to cost gore and kerry the white house. the GOP tent needs to be more open to those of us who are strong on national defense, fiscal conservatives, yet are pro-choice, etc. ann's claim that she'll vote for hillary is certainly her right, but then is she a true republican conservative? if given the choice, i'd actually vote for hil over barack, but mc cain will do just fine. i don't agree with him on a number of issues, but feel he's best to lead us in this time of war with radical islam.

Ack! I just had responses typed up, but a computer gremlin stole them!
Thriftshopromantic, I agree.
Libertine, Yup, but they do give us something to talk about when other, more important things have already been discussed to death LOL.
Ponkotsu, I would really hope people don't respond positively to that sort of thing. Unfortuntely, I think hatred is a bigger commodity than anything else...
StevenWilson, Interesting, what is it about Coulter that you find beneficial to read? (I agree obviously about Limbaugh LOL).
Davet, interesting points. I certainly hope that members of the republican party aren't as extreme as some of these pundits. Its refreshing to hear that....although I still may consider certain aspects extreme to my own beliefs.
However, I would like to ask you, is it always prudent to vote the party lines, in your opinion? (With regards to you asking if Coulter is a true conservative by voting for "the other team" as it were...)-
anok,
i like to say that i'm a straight shooter....so here it goes. i've voted the party line since i was old enough to vote in the general election back in the 80s. mondale, dukakis, clinton, gore and kerry are all folks that while i respect, i disagree with on a large number of issues. while living in calif., i did vote for a democrat for governor and have voted for some other democrats that i preferred over my own party's candidates. my pro-choice stance is clearly not in the majority here as a republican, but it is something i've supported all along (if i run for office some day, save this blog post to make sure i don't flip-flop my views, lol). i think more americans are like me in that they are more moderate and don't believe in extreme views on either side of the fence. i find it ironic that my republican party stands for less and less government in people's lives, yet they would tell my girlfriend or wife what to do with her body when it comes to abortion. on the other side, i don't want someone far on the left to shove comments down my throat that i'm somehow a bad person because i'm a strong believer in the death penalty. the ann coulter's bill maher's of the world, etc. are entitled to their views, but i doubt they represent the majority of us. -
I'll save it, promise! But let me make sure I understand your point of view...you vote the party line, yes, but really because the party line is more in tune with your beliefs/opinions. So, it would stand to reason, that if your party's candidate didn't jive with your beliefs......you'd vote for the candidate that best suits the task at hand, party not withstanding.
Yes?
I figure that thats pretty much the case for most folks. Even myself, heck - although I would ideally prefer no candidates, no government etc...I live in a country that has it, and so if I vote, I will vote for the person closest to my ideals (and not all of my opinions are extreme). So, I get what you're saying.

I love Ann Coulter , her and Michael Savage are my favorites!!
OK, not really. I do enjoy listening to both the extreme right AND left wingers though, they keep me grounded square in the middle.

anok,
i share more views with repubs than dems, so i have voted that way in general national elections. i do, however, sometimes vote on a local/state basis for a dem if i support more of their stances then the repub candidate. i think there are good/bad candidates on both sides and you have to weed them out. i think the debate we're having in the country over the war, economy, health care, etc. is good for the nation. i just get tired of radicals on both the right and left trying to shove their views down the throats of the people. i think most like you and me are smart enough to look at the entire picture and not some radicals on either side.-
If this means anything at all though - talk about the last eight years having a serious impact on this country, and it's voters....the war, economy etc...
My mother is a hard core republican, she votes the party regardless of who is running. I don't think she has ever, not once, voted for a democrat - on sheer principle alone. She barely has democrats as friends. I mean, she takes this party line stuff pretty serious.
This election, she's voting for Obama.
HA-ahahhahhahha! My brother called and asked me what I had done to our mother. It wasn't me, honest!

Guys, I think this is a really great example of how opposing views can be discussed rationally online. I came back to see there were a ton of comments on the thread, and thought, "Oh boy, what are we in for now?" but it's great to see everything handled so respectfully. (Phew!)
Cheers! -
Ann Coulter is very good at what she does. She is an entertainer first and foremost. Sadly, people take her infotainment appearances on TV or her columns for something other than what they are. There is a reason her writing and TV appearances are in the Opinion section of the paper or on Opinion shows on TV.
Her writing doesn't meet even minimal standards for fact checking that would be expected of normal journalism. That's perfectly OK because it is opinion, not reporting. As much as I disagree with her opinions, I have to give her kudos for flogging those opinions to fame and fortune.-
No doubt her business and marketing skills are fine tuned....
I wonder sometimes though, even if she started out the "infotainment" with shock value unchecked input, I think she's actually starting to believe herself. Either that, or she has managed to find a huge niche for airing her own dirty opinions.
Infotainment, - I was looking for that word a minute ago. I could use your memory skills....

well, I'll say this: I only know the names--I don't know anything else about them (nor do I really care to; I prefer my obliviousnes). And because you said you were expecting it from someone else's response:
EEK!
ARGH!

Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are awful human beings. I am tired of these yahoos increasing book sales and ad revenues at the expense of serious discussion. Rush needs to get off his fat ass and run for office and see what it is like to actually be accountable for the consequences of your actions. Ann Coulter needs to get a fat ass. Eat, for the love of the baby Jesus, eat. Seriously, Ann, the cadaver look is not a good one.

I love Anne. Not so much for her views, though I admittedly share a few, but because she just doesn't give a damn. She is herself, no matter what, love her or hate her she has accomplished a lot. Lol I even voted her celeb of the month on my blog for the month of January with her old playboy cover as the picture.
Anyone else notice the Anne ad at the bottom of this thread? -
.....(urp).....sorry......bile was seeping up my throat as I read the name "ANN COULT-er...(urr)...sorry.....there it is again.

Ann Coulter's animus has made her a lot of money. I wonder what it has cost her.
Regarding Rush, I used to listen to him for laughs, but his lies are so vicious I can't listen to him. -

Funny old post more because of the ad on the bottom

I don't want her for free. I'd pay to not see her.
