People actually create blogs like this? Oh, I can't research and write anything myself so I'll just write a little snippet and link it to other people's hard work. People never cease to amaze me. I don't know how you stop it. At least they linked it to you. I guess that's something. Sorry.

Firstly - they didn't write the snippet - it's all automated. People do that all the time - link to Problogger, Copyblogger, etc etc - provide a link and then some regurgitation or analysis or comment.

In this case - the paragraph is just based on the keywords selected (in this case "Domain Name") and may not be too intuitive .. and, there is no regurgitation or analaysis or comment.

Sites like this actually got my site back into being indexed by Technorati - before I gave a damn about Technorati.

I wouldn't worry too much about them scraping your RSS feed and internet for snippets 3-4 lines and linking back to you - I would worry about:

      (a) those who are doing this and do not link back to you

      (b) why they refer to other people's names (or "unknown") and in your case "unemployedalcoholic" ... It might be because you post as OBA instead of Wendy .. maybe there is a script limit 'if username less than 5 characters, make up something' (that was a guess - I've never seen the script)

    What diggnfordiamonds said.

I suppose there might be some way of stopping it, but I would question whether it is worth the effort.

Is that actually a quote from one of your blogs or websites? I only saw one complete sentence.

(For what it's worth, I've found bits and pieces of something I wrote for a bulletin board about 10 years ago on junk pages. This sort of thing happens, and I'd say that you're up on link.)

It is sort of. They left out the numbers.

This what we have cover thus far should of started it off

#1 Should of have been Budget

I had this discussion on Blog Catalog a few days ago and some very nice friends have suggested to report these kind of websites to Google.

These automated blogs have google adsense to generate a few bucks and an email to Google will have their account blocked. Now I do it every time I see a track back from these kind of crappy blogs.

Join me to make internet a safe place, report these kind of websites..

Sorry to hear that. Why would people want to do that , I wonder. I wonder if copyscape help. You can find that in all my blogs, visit steptpg.blogspot.com and copy its code and put it in your blog.

Thanks for the replies everyone has made.

Guess I just won't worry about it at the moment

Hello Wendy, I know you. This matter is not a sort of stealing. There is a list of sites I found who put my articles in their site with a link back. If it is happening with your blog, that means your blog is growing and it is natural. There is nothing to do with it and it is not illegal.

If it is illegal, that means digg, stumble are illegal too because they also depend on contents.
    2. wenfri
Of course Tamalds you are right but I think what upset me was the fact that they couldn't even use the proper name or publisher

      Instead they did this

There are laws against plagarism but not sure how to apply them with blogs.

    Wendy,

I notice the same thing happening with some of my posts as well. I always that is the 'cost of doing business.' When I check on Technorati most of the responses to my blogs are these types of websites. On a positive note, I did get a click to my blog from one of these websites once.

This scraping is becoming so common, it seems futile to even attempt to fight it. It has happened to me several times. I would notify their host and if necessary you could file a DMCA takedown notice. Is it worth it? I don't know. If the DCMA notice is found to be in bad faith, they could sue you, but in the case of a scraper, that would be unlikely.

What is real scary is that I was just told that scraping is moving from stealing your rss feed to just actually scraping off the web page.

I think Google is going to have to do something to reflect the realities of stolen content being all over their index. It is tough to justify any sort of duplicate content penalties when content is stolen everyday and posted in many different places.

Most people are blissfully unaware that their content has been stolen. I bet it has happened to almost anyone who has a blog with over just a few posts.

Read this article about plagarism www.digitalprank.org/copyscape-fight-against-web-plagiarism/

Copyscape will defintely help you in registering a complaint with DMCA if required. check it out www.copyscape.com/

DWY - TT is currently not a member here it seems at the moment... So she may not get this thanks. You might want to go to her site - and post a thank you comment in the links she left you.

Having another, copy material from you isn't too bad for you, It's really bad for them. But I know how you feel I just recently seen a photo of mine being used, Not that I care if they copy images but I think they should have stated where it really came from.

oh well I don't think the link worked,
  13. offendedblogger
It happens to me now and then, but those websites never stay up and running for long so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
  14. wenfri
Wow everyone has given some great tips on what to do and some extra insights as well
  15. mikeny07
I didn't think it was that hard to come up with your own content considering you have like a million different topics to write about.

I guess I am a rocket scientist having so many blogs. Funny, I only went 2 years to college.

I think there will be always a minus point for your blog in trying to stop this.

Write to them in legal manner , that's the best way.

    steal them back.
