Keep the accent, you'll fit right in. Advice: get a few maps and familiarize yourself with the street (its on a grid, quite simple). Don't take a towncar until your used to how much different rides cost, town cars don't have meters and they'll RIP you off big time (these are the black Lincolns, Taxis are always the yellow cabs)...ummm....buy a Metro Card for the month it's worth the $80....and don't let your girlfriend go shopping alone, she'll come back broke it's insane. BUY A BIG COAT, and don't waste your money on umbrellas, they always brake out here the wind is insane.

Don't worry about being Italian in NY...I grew up in NY and I'm a potato. Didn't seem to hurt me.

By the way, I took a look at your blog. I'm sure it makes sense to those who speak Italian. But for the rest of us...hmmm

When you're settled, have some free time and are hungry, check out Chinatown...excellent inexpensive food. Try some noodle places and the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory on Bayard. Unique flavors!

I went in Chinatown one time, it's incredible!
I bought Levis there for 40$ you have to think in Rome are in sale for 120 euro!!!
I know is an inexpensive area, thanks roadgurl5!

Treat yourself to a splendid evening of grand opera at the Metropolitan Opera House; that is, if you are an opera buff.
