If you have seen the new Star Trek movie then you will know Chris Pine's Kirk is a wimp! He does not even fight the bad guy in the end!!

I tell all about the movie here....

    Cool blog jigsaw!
  2. Epicharis
I hated it...but not because of Kirk...I hated it because apparently Vulcans are all about following your heart nowadays! So basically they are just like every other character, only they speak a little strangely and have green blood... grr!
    1. aningeniousname
Hmmmm You hated it.....and you told me to watch it!
    2. Epicharis
Well...that was a few months ago, before it came out! The trailer looked fantastic and the reports were that the actors had gone to great lengths to perfect their performances...it's just that they wrote a terrible script and so we ended up with garbage!
    3. gtally
      I kinda liked it....

      [runs from room].
    4. Epicharis
some people have no taste...most people at BC it seems...shame...
    5. gtally
It was summer mind candy, so my standards were not too high. Let's face it, we're not exactly talking about Oscar material, here. Just mindless escapism.
    6. Epicharis
Well, a summer blockbuster doesn't need to be bad. There's no reason why you can't have escapism and big explosions and excitement and still have a good film. This had a guaranteed audience no matter what they produced...they just seriously dropped the ball.
    7. gtally
I'm judging ST against the summer trailers for 'Transformers" and "G.I. Joe." Compared to these adolescent adrenaline fantasies, it looks like "Star Trek" set the bar pretty high.
    8. Epicharis
I imagine Star Trek will end up being better than those pieces of nonsense, but Star Trek really should have been better. Is there no one left in Hollywood who can write a decent screenplay? Special effects count for bugger all if your script is piss-poor. *grumble grumble* *consoles self by considering the quality films in her dvd collection*
    9. gtally
Go see "Up." Pixar still cares about plot and character...
    10. Epicharis
Wasn't Pixar responsible for that Wall-E piece of crap?
    11. gtally
      Gasp! Wall-E rocked!
    12. Epicharis
Wall-E was a poor attempt at silent comedy. It failed to do anything that makes silent comedy work, it was just schmaltzy! The short film before Wall-E came on was the most exciting part of the cinema trip!
    13. gtally
But I like schmaltzy. Also, Wall-E was an extremely subversive critique of American consumerism and its cost to the environment.
    14. Epicharis
What a subtle message...I must have totally missed that

      /sarcasm

      Happy Feet...now that was good!
    15. gtally
I know YOU got it. You're all sophistimacated and stuff like that. But I still think Wall-E was better than Happy Feet. The whole ostracized "Penguin Messiah" plot was a bit threadbare, I thought.
    16. Epicharis
you're telling me that you found a lonely silent robot (who looks suspiciously like Jonny 5) who teaches fat, lazy Americans that walking is good is more interesting to watch than dancing and singing penguins fighting for the environment? sheesh...
    17. aningeniousname
You;re a movie chav Sil! I am going to watch "It happened one night" and try to forget how you have done me wrong,
    18. gtally
He did look like Johnny5. I will give you that. But the fact that the Pixar animators were able to convey so much without dialogue was a great achievement. I don't see what's so amazing about Savion Glover tap dancing as an aquatic bird.
    19. Stillthinking
As far as the Vulcans being touchy feely, Spock was young and had yet to fully master his human emotions.

*loser stamp on ST's forehead starts to pulsate and glow*
    20. Epicharis
bleh...you can convey a lot with an emoticon...not convinced.

And someone clearly didn't get all the Fred Astaire call-backs in the dance routines why no one watch the classics no more?
    21. gtally
      Who's Fred Astaire?
    22. Epicharis
baiting back on the menu, I see...

      *goes back into hiding*
    23. gtally
Damn! I spooked her! When fishing for the elusive Siuil, it's very important to use the proper bait, or she will either flee or spray you with derision. Better luck next time...
  3. SweetViolet
I didn't like it either, but mostly because of the clumsy, heavy-handed "alternate reality" crap that basically now gives every hack screenwriter on the planet licence to reinvent (or just ignore) the entire body of work that has gone before.

    Yah...and touchy-feely Vulcans are creepy.
    1. Epicharis
I totally agree! They might as well have flashed "PLOT DEVICE" on the screen for all the subtlety that had!

"So this is an alternate reality?"
"Things are following a different course from the other timeline."
      "Things will be different."
      "Things will progress differently."

YES, WE GET IT! I was enjoying the film up to that point and then I just felt I was watching someone cashing in on a franchise.

And with Spock...while I could kind of understand that he's become emotionally in touch after all the sad things that happen in this timeline, Old Spock, who has been logical and typical Vulcan his whole life decides that at the end that the entire of the Vulcan philosophy has been wrong and they should act with their gut feelings! WHY?! The whole purpose of that character in the group is that he is cold and logical while the others are passionate and reckless! Bloody Hollywood!

    Blasphemers!!!!!
    1. Epicharis
      Low expectations...

did you like the pretty explosions and the loud noises? Was it all very exciting for you?

    2. crpitt
Where you/are you a Star Trek fan?
    3. Epicharis
yup...I love Star Trek, and I had big hopes for this reboot! I would't have minded all the shiny new equipment or more-advanced-than-they-should-have technology or different kinds of aliens and plotlines...but they were so artless in giving themselves license to do it and they changed something that was essential not only to the character of Spock, but to the interactions in the group that they completely ruined it for me.
    4. crpitt
I thought they did a good job with it, especially when you compare it to the horror that was the new star wars films.

Like PetLvr said, Some of the original films, though I loved them, were bloody awful. They will definitely be making more of them and I think the characters will develop.
    5. Epicharis
They may have been awful as films, I grant you...and I didn't really like many of the TNG films (I think the only decent one was First Contact, actually) but they were at least in keeping with what the show was like and what the characters were like. Watching this film felt like watching money-making scheme pure and simple.
  5. PetLvr
ya ya ya ,,, but look at the first "Original" movie .. that started the Star Trek Movie phase .. oh look - I'm VEEJUR .. I'm bald and talk like a robot

Then - they started to get better (at least the even ones) .. Kahn .. the Whales .. The Undiscovered .. Generations.... okay, maybe not Generations .. but the one after that one Nemesis? // First Contact .. .. Nemesis was good too.

These kids are young enough to put through a few more sequels that's bound to get better over time.

Military force was authorized yesterday minutes after the E.T.'s 48 hour deadline had passed. The E.T's were given an ultimatum to stop their whale poaching and leave Earth or face military action.

Wimp seems harsh definitely very different. He was not William Shatner-esque but he was alright enough. Personally I am more of a Spock fan myself and I thought Quinto did a pretty decent job. He was all pre-Spock fighting with the ideal of embracing fully the supression of his emotions and being 100% Vulcan.
  7. cookingasshole
everything about star trek is wimpy
    1. DollinNYC
      THANK-YOU!
    2. Epicharis
      Trolls...

      SOMEONE had to say it...
    4. DollinNYC
      again THANK-YOU! LOL
    5. Epicharis
We were having a nice little chat about sci-fi...go off to your beer thread and talk about baseball or whatever you people talk about...
    6. cookingasshole
      American Football!!!
    7. DollinNYC
      Lesbian hair?
    8. Epicharis
Whatever...why don't you play a real sport like Rugby?
    9. cookingasshole
rugby is for people with no teeth
    10. Epicharis
I've never known anyone who lost a tooth playing rugby...broken bones - yes, died - yes...dental issues - not really. You're just making excuses because Americans have to where padding and helmets when they play contact sports...
    11. cookingasshole
oh and don't forget we rule the universe.
    12. Epicharis
Nah, we all just let you think you do because you're young and we don't want you to throw a tantrum...
    13. cookingasshole
      *screaming and yelling*
    14. Epicharis
      here, have your dummy

wait...what do you call them? pacifiers, right?
    15. gtally
      They're crumpets.
    16. cookingasshole
      binkies

      @gtally
      LOL!!
    17. Epicharis
aw...one day you'll learn how to speak properly...when you're all grown up! SO CUTE!
    18. gtally
I wear padding and helmets just to brush my teeth...
  8. Stillthinking
*sticks fingers in ears and stamps feet*

It was awesome. I loved all the characters. Thought the alternate reality was ingenious in that it opened up a whole new world of creative possibilities and it is a classic Star Trek device that has been used many times in the TV series.
    1. Epicharis
ingenious? really? *crosses ST off list of people to save at Ragnarok*
    2. Stillthinking
It was a classic Star Trek plot device and totally fit within the Star Trek mythology.

On a separate note, I saw "Drag Me to Hell" today. AWESOME. Really scary and hilarious.

I have a soft spot for summer blockbusters and have seen pretty much all the new summer action movies.

I saw Star Trek,Wolverine and Terminator and Star Trek was hands down the best.
    3. faithsju243
@Stillthinking, are you being sarcastic when you say Drag Me To Hell is awesome???
    4. Epicharis
for 'classic' read 'overused' or 'convenient'
    5. Stillthinking
No, I am not being sarcastic. It was hilarious and genuinely scary, but you have to be a Sam Raimi "Evil Dead" fan.

It's actually getting really good reviews too. Check Rotten Tomatoes which collects reviews. 95% positive.
