Dunkin Donuts if I have to buy coffee out.

    Otherwise I prefer home brewed

    I loathe Starbucks, though

I never heard of Tim Horton's before today. I think Starbuck's is pretty much okay. I brew better coffee.

They're pretty big here in Canada, and growing in USA too.. www.timhortons.com/ if you want to learn more

Starbucks blows. There's a reason they closed 600 shops, their coffee is expensive and tastes like crap.

Really it tastes like crap? I mean I don't even drink coffee but when you have like 8 kazillion stores there has to be something to the quality of the product on some level.

Actually Kev, their coffee was not rated well in taste tests at all.

In fact, I think McDonald's coffee beat out Starbucks in taste tests, if I remember correctly.

Lotsa shops does not a good cup of coffee make.

      Kevin,

They have ambiance, a nice setting, a cozy place to hide away from the world. The baked goods are okay and the strawberry creme is good, if you get them to make it upside down. Really, their coffee isn't that great. However, their milk chocolate covered cherries are superb.

Consumer Report for 2007 rated Starbucks at the bottom of the list. The highest was McDonalds coffee..It's super good too

Starbucks is everywhere because people keep buying it and they have to make cuts, including the actual quality of the coffee, while increasing prices. Honestly, I had starbucks a while ago and it wired me REALLY badly. It was just a regular house coffee and I got incredibly manic and sick and crashed, it took me an entire day to recover from it. Very awful.

      @Theresa

I'm sorry you think so but NO it doesn't. Starbucks designs have become cookie-cutter, every minor detail has been designed to make you 'feel' at home, but the underlying motive behind it was to make you spend more money. Even though they look different, rest assured the company hired people to design it so it looks friendly. It's an illusion.

Seriously, if you walk into a starbucks you'll get nothing but annoying music, the place stinks, the employees all look like something out of alt-porn, and the lines are filled with people on their cell phones and ordering drinks I can't even pronounce. Venti? Tall? Grande? Screw that..."Hiding away" from the world just throws you into an even more annoying one.

They even have drive-thru, just for a simple cup of coffee that any 10 dollar machine from a department store and a 6 dollar pound bag of beans can make in the Comfort of your own home.

The only good part about starbucks is it makes you appreciate a REAL cup of coffee made by legitimate people elsewhere who know their stuff.

Besides, do you really want to drink the same thing every other smug yuppie is having? Doesn't sound too original to me..

Life is an illusion ... but we've all bought into it. The new Starbuck's one mile from my home has a drive through. I must agree on the silly names they use for the sizes. I don't drink yuppie beverages, because I wear blue jeans.

    Neither. Butlers :3

Their regular coffee is a wee bit strong, but try a Frappucino, or a blended lemonade!
Trust me, you wont be dissapointed.
Also, the employees are way more personable. At TH it's more like "pay and get the hell outta my face!"...

Tim Hortons for us - first time visitors to Canada and we loved it!
  8. RecycleCindy
Never heard of Hortons. They must not allow it in the home state of Starbucks?
  9. riverstyxxx
If you have them in the area, I recommend "Corner Bakery Cafe". They have like 4 different types of self-serve house coffees and free wifi

It's a bit crowded at peak hours, but their food and coffee is awesome and the staff aren't usually uptight.

You can't go wrong with either choice. One if your in a hurry, the other if you're not.
  11. RustyKiwi
Meh, Tim Hortons feels a bit "cheap" to me...

Definitely Tim Hortons - check out my post on Tim Hortons www.illyamarchak.com/2009/11/the-cult-of-tim-hortons/

I brew my own coffee but Starbucks is ok.
  14. Soirette
Tim Horton's has better treats. I'm not crazy about the coffee at either place.
  15. jeremyjanson
Local coffee all the way! Better quality, greater variety, lower prices.
  16. MidwestMom
All things being equal, I would much rather get pastry & coffee from a place named after a hockey great than one named after a pilot on Battlestar Gallactica.
  17. thecantankerouscan
Of course Starbucks tastes bad. When you're charged $9 for a coffee, it's bound to leave a bitter taste in anyone's mouth.
  18. bettieblogger
I have always drank Timmy's but recently I was turned on to Second Cup coffee. About the same prices as Timmy's but with a real gourmet taste ... Not sure if you can get it in the states though.
