Still Having Problems with Meta Tags and XML

For the past couple of weeks I have been trying to get my XML Blogger Blog to be indexed correctly in Google and other search engines. I've tried several different codes but either I am not patient enough or none of them are working. I've also checked out what other bloggers are doing with their codes but some of it does not make sense. So here are my questions and problems.
Problem #1 When I search google and come up with one of my blog posts this is what it says in the search results
Title of my post blog name
misc. crap from my sidebar for the description
or this results:
Title of my post blog name
description of my blog's main page
Question about fixing this problem.
Instead of inserting my meta tags for individual posts into my main code could I just do that with the HTML of just the page itself? Or would this make matters worse?
I also heard from someone that if you take your meta tags out altogether and only use title tags in the code your pages will index properly. I haven't tried that yet.
I still get a ton of errors on my Google Webmaster tools and don't know how to fix that. I think my code is really messed up.
Okay next question.
I see these things in the codes of a lot of Blogger blogs.
What does this mean?
Sometimes they also have their blog feed in the code. Would any of this fix my problems?
This is how I want my blog to appear in Google search results
Title of my Blog Post | Title of Blog
description of the blog post
