Could anyone tell me how I could get traffic from Stumble Upon...I'm really clueless? Is there any blog focusing on SU? Advice appreciated!

Getting traffic from SU is a little like any other social networking site, gotta get involved, check out other sites, vote on stuff you like, or don't like. And sooner or later people will start coming to your site, visit, read, comment, You could submit your own posts, or ask people to "sumble it" for you, by asking at the end of each posts (you can use the "share it" plugin for that), if people like your posts they will most likely stumble them, and the more people who like your content the more traffic it'll send to your blog. Or another way would be to use the "advertiser" program, and spend some money to get more exposure, 5 cents a click ($50 = 1000 clicks) and it can help kick start the traffic, and you'd most probably recieve more hits than what you paid for anyway

    Hope it helped

Hmm that is a nice suggestions

Stumbleupon is a great source of traffic. Participating in the community is key and reviewing other stumblers is always a good start.

ermm , hi sexyinred. u can read the full tip at Jonathan (Jphilips) website. hehe Jonathan, should i buy the advertiser program. is it really worth it for long term? How do they "pull" user to click to your site?
  5. jphillips
Hi kucau, well i'd suggest you try the advertiser program, it's kinda cheap for the quality of the traffic, i'm not sure yet if it's worth it in the long run, but the $50 i spent got me around 1800 visits (so i got 800 free clicks), it seems it won't slow down. Of course you can always submit your own posts, and it can bring a nice amount of traffic that's for sure, Kiltak from geeksaresexy.net is getting quite a nice amount of SU traffic. But if you want to spend some money on SU, i'd say, go ahead, it's definitely worth it. just gotta make sure you advertise in the right category (i chose "entrepreneurship" but i'll maybe try again in the "business" category) it'S worth it, but just have to have nice content to "back it up" that's all there is to it really, users vote on your content, so migt as well write nice stuff if you try it, lemme know how it goes!

i must admit i'm a bit clueless on stumble upon too (shortly heading off to read Jphilips tips), but after getting my first stumble an hour or so ago, the number of hits to my web site are encouraging!

now i just need a few comments and i'll be happy [happier]

Hi Jonathan, ermm i think ill try SU advertiser next week. but before that ill need catchy and unique content.
  6. sexyinred
I don't know but my SU seems to be stuck like...nobody know my blog exist and yeah after Blog Catalog and the continuos effort on Technorati train that will be my next blog project.

And definitely gonna check jphilips blog for more info bout this SU thingy...tho I'm not sure weather I'm gonna invest 50 USD for traffic but ermm for about 1,800 visit I might not hesitate if I had the budget.

Will go on socializing with SU community next...anybody with me? :)hahahha
    1. jphillips
sexyinred, just to let you know, $50 USD is the price for 1000 visits, i got 1800, but results can vary from one blog to another, but one things for sure, you'd get 1000. (and you can keep submitting your posts afterwards, it can't hurt)

    sexyinred,

I actually have a pretty extensive article on how to use StumbleUpon to drive traffic to your website.

    Hope this helps.

      makimaki:

great article. tons of good advice. i'm going back to read it again...

      thanks!

Makis' an expert! seriously that's an awesome post, really worth reading!

    Makimaki,

That was an excellent article on StumbleUpon. Outside of the SU Exchange, it seems like you have to give first in order to receive stumbles. Any ideas on how to build up SU friends? Thanks

There are three main ways build up your SU friends network:

      1. Connect with fellow bloggers who are also SU users. Stumble the posts of bloggers you love. Write a post about StumbleUpon, mention your profile etc.

      2. Add SU users whose stumbles you like or who share the same interest as you. Send them a private message to say hi. When you thumbs up an article you like, click on the discussion tab and see who else likes it.

      3. Stumble and submit as much as you can. This is the natural way of building up a network of friends. Usually SU users will see who has stumbled a similar article and they will add you as a friend. This method might be slow, but I like it because I don't have to go out of my way to contact other people.

If you (or anyone else) wants to add me as a friend.. here's my profile.

makimaki, your post is awesome. I saved the page on my hardrive one month ago... I will add you as a stumble upon friend.
  11. tnash
Several people have added their articles, we took a different take but its worth noting that stumblers are a little different from most social sites as they come in blind (they have no idea what your site is) if they came via the stumble button.

This means you have seconds to make an impact and various bits on the page effect this more then others

maybe we should start a "I'll stumble 4 ya" thread....

Hey sexyinred I just added you as a friend on SU, I just signed up two days ago due to this discussion. I have to admit I am very clueless right now.
My guess is that the more friends we add the better chance for them to stumble across our blog???
    2. zakman
Okay sexyinred I added you by clicking on that link. What happens next? Am I supposed to mark your pages as 'stumbled' on my stumble toolbar?

Yesterday (after Steve of cyrusm66.com added me to stumble) my trafic went up 300 per cent, and lots of it from stumbleupon.com URL's. And today it's back to normal. What's happening?

This is like a blind man searching for a black cat in a dark room on a new moon night and the cat is not there.

Owhhh by the way I Maki had just post another post on SU - 5 Ways to Increase Your SU Network. Here's the link...

  17. sexyinred
    Enlight...thanks!!
I'm no expert here but guess it does work that way...you had to Stumble almost everything that you found and you think will be useful to share with others.

Make new SU friends and hopefully get yourself Stumble in return. Do read makimaki posts on SU...it helps me a lot!

Here is exactly how to get traffic to your blog from Stumbleupon

    1. Write a good post
    2. Link to a few powerful SU users from within that post - if you have read Maki's guide, you will have noticed one suggestion of always Stumbling people who link to you
    3. Message friends if you think it is a really good post that is relevant to a particular audience. I do this very rarely

An example is this post I also wrote on StumbleUpon today
    andybeard.eu/2007/05/stumbleupon-top5.html

There are some unique parts to it, but part of the post did include both Maki and Tim Nash's posts on StumbleUpon, plus a few others who I can hope to leverage.

I am also trying to contact a few friends to push it a bit, because I must be one of the only bloggers with close to 1000 subscribers who has never had any real success with Digg or SU.

I have had 1000-2000 visits from SU in the past for one article, but nothing major.
  19. Kushikushun
Thanks for the advices you guys. Once I got about 90 viistors from SU on my website in a minute or so...never happened again after that

You may add me as a friend too..and I will return the favor!

Seksyinred check out my blog i did wrote couple of posts about it, also as the 2nd post said, you got to be involved to get it, so first what you do is have your posts submitted and first time the traffic comes to your site is the best traffic , after that go ahead and stumble as many sites you can with like it or don't like it, in return you will get traffic i am getting about 150-200 visits just from stumbleupon every day , + i am thinking of paying those 5c a click i might i don't know 4sure.
    1. sexyinred
Owhh ok thanks SeoBloGGist..will head for your blog now
  22. SeoBloGGist
Thank you , i added you to my technorati favorites

I'm not out to make monney like a lot of folks I run across on blogs, just want to make friends of common interest. It takes a while to really visit and get to know all these social bookmarking sites. I have not done stumble upon yet (although someone linked me once).

Is all this time in the social bookmarking really bring repeat visitors? For me, I tend to visit the blogs once I find and never go back for the majority of the time.

I would like repeat visitors that have common interests with me, not one time visitors just trying to make money.
  30. Hummie
So, because of this thread I created a stumble upon account today and it took me a long time to become familari with the place...I've still yet to see how it will get me regular readers...time will tell.
  31. finalwebsites
I guess traffic from SU depends a lot on the subject, while a lot of technology articles/sites are a big success, other articles are only good for a short while (maybe 300 pageviews)
  32. Kushikushun
Hi Hummie, I will add you if you tell me what nickname you have there? If you have any questions just send me a message through SU.

    Greetings, Francisca.
