StumbleUpon traffic

I tried StumbleUpon ad service to drive some traffic to my blog, and it worked as promised, but the users show a terrible click through rate as compared to other visitors. I wonder if its a problem with my ad placement, or if StumbleUpon users are just so niche, they visit a blog, read the article and fly to the next one. How can you cater to them? Well, its a good shot if you want a boost in hits anyways. What are some ways you drive traffic? I have high hopes for blogcatalog, it seems to have a very organic, very blogger centric model.

stumbleupon visitors tend to have a really high bounce rate because of the reasons you stated. BC is a much better way to find people who are genuinely interested in your blog.

amrhima, if you start a campaign on stumble, be sure to test the waters with 1$ or so and no more. Also include an article as the ad the page and not your front page, that seems to help.
cooking, I hope so:) -
Stumble visitors tend not to be readers as much as quick photo viewers. Anything with a goofy photo or two does well. Text-based pieces that require more than a moment, probably won't.
It doesn't mean the article isn't good. It just means there isn't a Stumble attention span for it. -

BC has a huge stumble group with 4545 members. Here's the link www.blogcatalog.com/group/stumble
Here's what the group description states:
Stumble Group
- Groups where you can ask for stumbles, diggs, link exchanges or anything else to keep them off the boards.
P.S. I don't want to have a bad name around the net, stumble the sites you like. The aim of the group in the first place was to keep to exchanges of the main boards.
Stumble sites you like not just ones that someone asks you to stumble.
If I keep getting a bad name I will remove this group and close my stumble account. -- petlvr, Admin for the Stumble Group-
I don't understand why this thread was assigned to the Making Money category. Was that accidental or what?
FWIW I'm an active stumbler and I refuse to give a thumbs up to sites featuring low or no quality contents and being pimped out for advertising income. I also refuse to thumbs up and review commercial sites.
A minority of the new readers I have on both blogs have come to me via stumbleupon. I know this only because they told me they liked my content and were glad they found my blogs through stumbleupon.
FWIW one can pay for a stumbleupon campaign www.stumbleupon.com/ads/

timethief: my question was about making money via clickthroughs on ads from users, including SU users. Your advice was really good, its a great way to do just that. I was a bit out of line, thanks for your great link:)

Why should I not place ads for you if I am sponsor of SU?
I think I misunderstood where you were coming from. I also sense that you do not understand where I'm coming from either. I'll try and clear that up with you on my end.
(1) There is NOTHING that any blogger can do to encourage me to click ads on their site.
(2) I use a Firefox browser with AdBlock Plus and a pop-up blogger like 47.1% of others browsing the web. That means in most cases (I do have other browsers) I do not see advertising at all - alleulia!

thanks timethief, i do not try to encourage, as that is against google TOC, but I would love it if more bloggers did click. This would allow me to finance my writing instead of having to work a part time job and try and get through pre med/med school. I am sure you are not the only user with that opinion though, I appreciate the feedback.

Please understand clearly that I'm an eccentric person. I am not part of the consumer driven milieu at all. There's no way on this earth that you will ever convince me to become an ad clicker.
I've also been around the web for awhile and on this planter for 1/2 a century. There's no sob story that I have ever heard from a blogger, splogger or ebeggar that has influenced me to commit click fraud (clicking on ads when you have no interest in the product or service being sold). In fact, I report everyone who requests that I participate in click fraud to the associated advertiser.

I hope you understand that I am not asking anyone to click on anything but am simply stating that (like anyone would tell you) it would be nice to have a secondary income and that I am looking for very legal and unfradulent (which is why I said I was not interested in the link exchange program you provided) suggestions to increase revenue from stumbleupon.

It sounds like you posted this thread for the purpose of shamelessly promoting your blog, and assigned ot to the Making Money category becaus that's what you aim ti do with your blog.
If that's the case I can offer some help. This post I will link to below from the BC New Users Group reveals what's expected in a thread posted to the Shameless Blog Promotion category (scroll down to Shameless Blog Promotion)
How to use BC forum categories effectively

As far as suggestions to increase revenue from stumbleupon goes I'm sorry I have no suggestions to make. As other members have already pointed to the high bounce rate from stumbleupon and "skim reading" behaviors of stumblers I won't dwell on them.
Best wishes for effective networking at BC.

What are some ways you drive traffic?
The truth is that very few bloggers have the degree of expertise required to produce unique content that brings in the massive number of hits on advertisements that are required to make a living from blogging. Moreover, the economic realities we now face mean that making an income from blogging is increasingly more difficult.
In the economic times in which we live easy credit is no longer available, some companies have trimmed and others have severely cut back on their advertising budgets, and the number of people clicking on ads appears to be on the decrease.
You will never make a significant income from blogging if you lack expertise in a specific niche and you do NOT know how to:
* be a skillful blogger;
* create an archive full of high quality original content;
* structure a search engine optimized blog;
* promote your blog via social networks and other means;
* establish and maintain a faithful and growing readership (organic traffic).
The link below is to a article that contains internal links to tutorials and/or how to instructional posts for the 25 steps outlined in the article. Many bloggers have taken these steps and report that they have experienced an increase in organic traffic after doing so.
Twenty five steps to increase blog traffic

I am on stumbleupon for last two month and I have learned lot from it. For getting traffic from SU is not so easy if you do not be one active member on SU. For get traffic from SU the blog must have quality and attractive look. I see that every post which are something special get many review on SU and come to the front page.
Blog like make money, work at home get very low traffic from SU, because the blog post of such type of blog are like same. Well I am researching on SU till now and it is really interesting for me. Every time I got some nice picture and some nice post I review it on SU.
If any blogger not familiar with SU, I strongly recommend to use SU.
