I have a situation at the race track, where I work. Employment nitty gritty is taboo, trade secret, protected by need for personal privacy. I am trying to find a way to write about it that will tell the tale without creating any controversy. That would maybe mean going incognito, which to me, is cowardly. Solid journalists, covering sensitive material way over my head, use their names and faces. Seems like I should be able to do the same thing, only ... uh... I guess I am not prepared to make a living as a journalist. I cannot risk tweaking anyone at work. Sux.

Is this an old topic, where everyone already has the memo on what to do? If so, please put me out of my misery and humiliation, by giving me hemlock or deleting this thread. I tend to miss memos, especially the ones covering how to be normal.

So, what's the deal, if it's not already common knowledge, about writing about work? Seems like such a great topic. Much better than politics.

See, I have this sudden opportunity down at the race track, where I work. I want to write about it and get a lot of laughs.

Be very careful, it's been more than once that bloggers have lost their jobs for writing about their work.

one time I took pictures of people at work, then put them on my website with comic captions. I almost was whacked that day. That was back in the 90s, when the internet was still in utero.

Lucky for me I have no job, so I can blog about EVERYONE!

I don't think it's appropriate to blog about your work or to take pictures of people and put captions ... and then put it on the WWW without their permission. Not everyone wants to be on the internet. And there are confidentiality issues, not to mention just good manners with regards to this sort of thing.

Lots of people blog about their jobs but they do it so anonymously that no one knows who they are or who they're talking about. But you'd have to be very careful because I'm sure there are legal issues involved here.

I think you are right on all points.
