WOW! I have a Nikon D80 and love it. Does she know how to use an SLR? Otherwise Lumix by Panasonic has some nice point & shoot digital cameras.

LOL Sorry, That should be @300

That's not nearly as nice. LOL!

In that case, I highly recommend a Sony Cybershot. I have one and I love it. It has a Zeiss lense, 3x zoom, 8 Megapixels.

It's very easy to use, slim and attractive, and a large viewing screen.

Can you kindly quote the model number?

This isn't the same Sony Cybershot I have, but it has 10 Mpixels and is cheaper than what I paid. Same zoom, same Zeiss lense. It's a nice camera.

I also suggest Canon Elphs. They cost less than the Sonys, tend to be a little bit bulkier (but not by much, they are still considered super slim).

as someone else suggested the panasonic lumix is a good camera.

if you up your budget by $100 the canon G10 @ $400 is a great point and shoot camera that is without a doubt the best on the market. B&H has it for $408 last I looked

I needed a really good one for business and a friend who is an I.T. guru recommended Sony Cybershot. He was right. It's great!

I have a CANON Powershot G9 which is great... $400- $500....but canon makes great cameras... look into those for your choice.

Buy .. Sony Cybershoot..made in Japan (not other country..) and choose the MegaPixel as your budget.. more high better.. Remember about the memory stick capacity.. you may make movie (duration depend on your memory size).
    Thanks

A month ago I purchased an Olympus Stylus 1020. It is wonderful! I'm very happy with it.

what are you using the camera for? You can't really decide what the best camera is until you decide precisely what it will be used for.

I also have an Olympus Stylus 1020 and I like it very much.

    Consider these:

    Panasonic Lumix FZ28
    Nikon Coolpix P80
    FujiFilm Finepix S2000HD
    Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H50

If you have a bit more money, I'd recomment these two:

    Panasonic Lumix LX3
    Canon Powershot G10

I have the Fuji one and I am very happy with it its very compact easy to use 8mp with a 10x optical zoom and I paid 130 pounds(Sterling) for it, total bargain.
I bought it as a beginner learning camera and I was very happy with the results you can see them on my photo blog.

You can get a top-notch camera for much less. Try the Cannon A -series at Best Buy for under $150.00. I use it religiously in my work, and it has exceptional video quality as well.

I think he's shooting for a nice gift, rather than just a nice camera.

A good brand: Sony , Kodak, Cannon, Nikon, Panasonic.
For 300$ you have a lot of products to choose from.

Do not buy an HP or a Kodak. I have had both and they both after several months became almost useless because they start taking only about 10 pictures before needing new batteries. I have heard from several other people that they had they same result with their HP's or Kodaks. A couple of people have recommended Canons as not having this problem.

Oh you wanna compare some shots taken with different digital cameras...i have experience with cyber shots, panasonic lumix, nikon etc..most of the sony ericsson cell phone cameras are used to take pics and are their in my blog. you can see some photos taken as a review fr panasonic lumix in my blog...if you wanna check the photos you can have a look..the photos are resized to 800*600 in the site..so zooming will blur them.you can check the colour reproduction defenitely.selecting the cam.....decision is upto you..
