   I agree with the link throwing. I have set up google alerts for keywords on topics that are closely related to my blog. Whenever someone blogs about something that I could leave a comment on, I'm notified. It's also a great way to find new blogs.

   As this site has been created for the purpose of drawing traffic and in doing so affords people the ability to do the same for themselves, no one should be complaining about the bulk of users (which do form the bulk) who 'throw links about'.
   
   I draw traffic with:
   SEO articles
   Prominant (front page) column on article sites
   Forum posting
   Word of Mouth via people I know

   I don't really promote my blog aside from joining a few networking sites and begging friends to read it (my "real life" ones... just to be clear).
   
   Which they don't. OK, 1 does and I love him for that.
   
   If someone is asking for a link, I'll post it on a thread. I've done that a few times.
   
   I also seek out blogs I might like to read regularly and hope that a chance contact might produce another regular reader.
   
   We all want our blogs to be number one and have a ton of readers, but it's important to me that people like what they read and the connection between blogger and reader is genuine.
   
   The discussions here are fun, any traffic I get as a result is just icing on the cake.
