Ok I was taking my kids to see my parents. I got behind a very slow older mad who apparently had no where to be today. This got me thinking is it a good idea to test people that over a certain age and people with medical conditions every year to see if they qualify as a driver or not. I was an Emergency Medical Tech. I picked up several people over the years that had no business driving and that have killed people over it. Also there was a lady here that drove every day with out a liscense (in her 80's) and she ran into the back of the cop car in the next town over and killed her self. The cop was out writting a ticket is theonly reason he wasnt hurt. So the question is do we test. What age and conditions do you see testing for. I am diabetic and I think that should be one of the ones tested each year due to the eye problems, reflex problems and all that got with it.

States have been reluctant to legislate such things, though I suspect as the baby-boomers age, more requirements will be instituted. We'll see pretty soon! I don't think an age ceiling would go over well. Some folks may certainly be compromised, but I'll bet the limits will be based on performance, not age. My grandad is 85 and drives very well... then I see 25-years-olds driving and texting -- THAT scares me way more.
