I'm not sure how many Thai people read this forum or how many people know Thai music but one page of the website is about Thai music. Where I post youtube clips of Thai music.
And I need advice on what youtube (or others) clip of music you like, so that I can post more here. For the time being they're more or less my choice and my wife's choice.

Interesting. As with most other cultures, Thailand probably has its own quintessential musical style & tradition, and that would probably be reflected in the modern versions of Thai musicians' products (as in pop, rock, contemporary folk, etc.).

As far as the synthesized, commercial music on the page you mentioned, my guess that this is probably WHAT'S HOT in Thailand right now, right?

How about "real" Thai music? What would a foreigner (such as me) need to hear to understand where all those musicians are coming from? Are there some Thai music pioneers that would make it easier for me to understand what the Thai music roots are?

Just wondering out loud. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to glance into Thailand's current music scene.

What's hot is what's hot elsewhere, I guess, nice looking people singing and dancing. No special sound or trend coming from Thailand so far, just a different language.

But hot music is still listened only by the young and trendy in big cities, for everybody else living North and North East of Bangkok, they only listen to traditional Thai music, the clips I posted on the left side of the page.

And it is starting to get popular in Bangkok also, many people from the North having emigrated here.

So no pioneer here yet. Traditional music has been here for centuries and hot music, is well, hot music...

But I have to say the Thai singers are good at smiling. Coming from their culture and part of their charm.

I don't know it at all and it was a great idea to feature it in your blog.

I have never heard either the traditional or recent Thai music before except in restaurants.
I liked both. I also really liked your blog layout.

I love the traditional Thai music. I was watching the video from Jintara that you have there and its breathtaking! Amazing!

Thanks Ranist. I think Americans should open up a bit more to the world, or said differently understand the world better. And we could start with music.
But well, unfortunately, I'm pretty convinced it won't happen soon.
    Unfortunately for Americans actually.
    And the world...
