It's really REALLY annoying when people say that's so gay. It dusnt even make sence. How can a toilet be gay? What? It can't be sexually attracted to another toilet. How can a idea be gay?

Anyone feel the same way?

I find it annoying, but not because inanimate object as abstracts have no sexuality, but because it's using the term 'gay' to mean something negative, and so is just casual homophobia.

I guess you are talking about having to go to the toilet when nature calls because most guys do it on the streets? they think it is kind of sissy thing to be so 'prim and proper'.or i could be wrong.

I see what you mean - I admit I've used the term before for lack of something else better to say.
I think it stems from overuse - its one of those viral sayings that just catches on and becomes a bad habit. Its similar to people who overuse the word "like" or say "oi" after ever sentence.

Im not saying its right but if things are said often enough they catch on.

I think gay is a brilliant word to fit in a stiff context, in a witty way. Like if you're giving a talk on where you stand on the new tax laws, then stating that a tax deduction on consumers goods would make consumers gay with their spending.

Ie. meaning happy and carefree, but that's not what people instinctively think. Always a good time

I think it's a very suitable thing to say if you witness two gay people having sex. Otherwise, it's homophobia.

On another note, I see this Google Ad on the sidebar:

Man... I guess this question is going to be finally answered by people who think their opinion matters.

I don't think that stating that "that's gay" as opposed to "that's stupid" is really homophobic. I don't think it has anything to do with homophobia, it's just a word and like Sam1982 said it's just caught on. I remember using that expression when I was younger, and I can assure you there is nothing homophobic about me.

It's just like cool, that has nothing to do with temperature.

im 17 and i say it all the time, today i said "did u see that "gay" love scene at the beginning of the film? - meaning "did u see that crap love scene at the beginning of the film?

in this case its used as a harmless (non-malicious) insult not meaning attracted to the same sex, youth culture

people give power to words. i.e. the word "nigger", and as becthomas said cool. I don't believe it has anything to do with a negative connotation of homosexuality I think it's just the culture

Wanda Sykes did a great 30-second "commercial" about the slang "That's So Gay" for ThinkB4YouSpeak.com ...

      That is hilarious and true!

I think gay bashing and not being able to marry the one you love is really gay! But words don't bother me so much.

I'm going to start using the word in a positive light. Next time I see some shoes I want, I'm going to say, "Those are WAY to gay for me not buy."

So you're bringing the 30s/40s version of the word back.

I find some ads in vintage magazines using gay as "cheery or cheerful" and they end up reading pretty amusingly these days, since the context of the word has shifted so much.

Yea it's hard to say "gay" and not sound like your at least referencing something girly.

It's definitely a stupid phrase, and I think it's most popular with teens. It's just such a strange thing to use - I agree that it's definitely negative though.
