The Amazing Power of StumbleUpon
Posted by AppleMan • 11/29/07 • Subscribe to this Discussion [RSS] • Report This Topic
Just about a half hour ago, moneymoose stumbled one of the posts on my blog. So far, since then, I've gotten 130 visits (and counting) from other stumblers! I am amazed at stumble's power, and it so beats digg, which used to get me 5-10 extra visitors.
I encourage everybody to join stumble (if you haven't already.) By the way, if you want to see this popular post: rollydollar.wordpress.com
What's your best stumble traffic day?

I've got about 40 mutual friends and I've heard that once you get 200 or so you can double or at least increase current turnouts. Generally my stumbles are worth anywhere from 50-900 from my personal experience though it's also largely based on the number of people that click the thumbs up button. Content is key, especially fast stuff that can be looked at quickly.
I'll send you a friends request right now. -
I absolutely love StumbleUpon!
2 weeks ago one of my articles got over 14,000 unique visitors in about 5 days. That was a great Stumble.

This is what drummed up all that happy traffic. What do you think? Was it worth all that traffic?

StumbleUpon has helped me get a little traffic, but it fizzles out quickly.
If you like SU, try joining the SU group here on BC, which is run by Chris, aka crkian: www.blogcatalog.com/group/stumble -
I also think SU could bring more results if people who know each other here would add each other as friends on SU. That's the purpose of the group. I haven't taken that step, because I'm still hesitant to do stumble stuff that is not to my personal taste. but I do go around and click on the SU links of BC friends' profiles here, and I add them. And when I'm really cooking, I see what they've been stumbling and maybe stumble it too.
-
I appreciate your candor. I did join and added people but it still feels awkward to be the first responder to my own post and/or ask other people to please Stumble my own (to me it screams, like a grade schooler, "Please like me!" I see other people more seasoned with SU and so hearing of their expert personal blog stumbling is helpful. What happens if no one likes you? (Rhetorical question!)

I've had great traffic from Stumbleupon, I've started to stumble a lot of sites, but only give good content a thumbs up/review.
As mentioned, it is temporary, but because it is a 'social site', once people get to know you, a lot of them become regular visitors.
When you stumble a site, and you like it, give it a review to give others an idea of why you like it and what they can expect.
This will in turn can help draw more people in as friends! BTW AppleMan, I liked the easy reading style of your blog! -
200 friends is becoming a problem for me, lots have started to add me from the stumble group but I have 200 friends already 170 odd being fans.
I also think it would be nice if you could see what sort of traffic you send to your stumbled sites. -
I ran a test in december 2006 with Stumble traffic on a Xmas themed game with content and noticed the following.
Over three days I received 968 visitors.
90% of those visitors stayed less than 30 seconds.
11 people gave it a thumbs up...also important to note that 9 went on to digg it and 5 voted for it on Netscape (now Properller)
I found that there was no more visitors to the page after about 6 days (Just after Xmas day) but this was probably due to the theme more than anything.
Overall even if you dont get regular visits after the initial spike Stumble definately gives you added exposure and is a great tool. -
200 friends can seem a silly limit. I have a friend who is wrestling with the problem at present, and is coming to a place where she is only retaining active friends.
Being able to see and measure traffic from the site is impossible, though it would be nice. I have a couple of people who stumble mine, and the numbers go through the roof, while others, well... -
I actually tried an experiment with squidoo earlier this week and copied one of my posts onto there and left link backs to my site for other posts. I then stumbled it, I received an extra 500 visitors to various posts from quidoo and may try it again.
-
CRKian, its interesting you said that, when I stumbled my squidoo page I only got about 3 visitors
even though this Squidoo page is ranked 39 overall. -
Hi all,
I had a go of SU once but found it confusing, after seeing this discussion i've just downloaded the toolbar again to give it another try.
I'm all for getting more visitors and giving others visitors so if anyone wants to give me some tips on how best to use this SU i'm willing to give it another go.
I'll go check it out again in the morning but any help would be appreciated.
Do you stumble your own articles? How do I add friends? Once I find that out start posting your stumble upon details so I can add you, I always have a spare hour or so each day and I don't mind spending it stumbling if it helps us get some extra visitors.

Hi Tony,
You're right. Reviewing and stumbling a site are two different things. That confused me too when I first started.
Reviewing a site has the benefit of putting your review in front of all your friends on their Recent Review (or Home) page. If a friend decides they like it and reviews it, then their review is sent to all their friends. It only works with friends, not fans, or people you're following, but still it's one of my favorite things from their recent changes to the site.
[I've stumbled 12 sites now but received no feedback...] When you give a site a thumb up, the thumb should stay green. If you go back and revisit the site, you should still see the green thumb. Also, you can click on the "reviews" icon and see a page that shows you the past 10 people (and you can click to see up to 40 more) who have given the page a thumb up, and all of the reviews that have been written about the page.
[Also I saw that I had one review...] Occasionally, someone will visit your page, find something that sounds interesting, and write a review off of your site instead of the original site. I've seen this happen most often with pictures...in fact, I spent an enjoyable couple hours trying to chase down a picture once, since everyone had linked to the previous stumbler instead of to the original site.
If you need more help, feel free to ask, or check out my blog, SU Com. There is a section for beginners that deals with everything from using the toolbar (and how to change it to fit your needs better) to when to give a thumb up to a page you don't like. If you're interested, there is also a recent post (still on the front page) where I analyze the effects of StumbleUpon on a recent, popular post.

Yesterday in the space of an hour and half, I received 570 visitors from stumble on this post .. obesity.battlingforhealth.com/2007/11/what-is-basal-metabolic-rate/ which was stumbled by me Nov 4th. And, all day yesterday in the space of 5 hours I received 1230 on the front page renovate.andyouwill.com/ which, I didn't stumble myself, and my last post was Oct 29th. Too bad my subscribers didn't increase or did I benefit in adsense earnings .. but, maybe next time I'll recognize the traffic when it's happening and try to do something while the visitors are around looking.

Hi all,
yes i'm still here, late night (2am)I've found out how to add friends at stumble and added everyone in this discussion apart from one(latinocool)as he didn't have his stumble in his profile.
If you can stumble friends then expect some more visitors tomorrow, i'll be a stumbelling, lol.
Last question for the night then it's bedtime for me, how do you stumble a page/site/blog? If I give a site the thumbs up does that mean i've stumbled it? Or do I have to do something else?
That's it from me for tonight, i'm off to bed, see you all tomorrow.
Tony:)
P.S. Anyone else who wants me to add them as a friend at SU just make a post here and i'll check your profile and add you. -
Dont forget our own Terrence Chang has a little button to add to your browser that can tell you if the page you are on is stumbled or not.

dont you need to implement somethin in your html layout for people to stumble your blog or how does it really work? www.stumbleupon.com/buttons.php?pgtype=blog
-
yes I get that part I sent you a message on stumble how do I add the thumbs up or down on my prifile page for people to stumble on my blog/posts I dont have that on me profile lol
-
Harleyblues, there's really nothing you need to add to your site to get it stumbled. If you haven't already, I would suggest signing up for SU, so that you can have the toolbar, and to make it easier to go to the review page to see what is happening with your post.
Similar to Digg, del.icio.us, and the other submission sites, there's nothing you need to add to your blog, although many people will put links to these sites to encourage people to stumble your site. Ozegold (www.blogcatalog.com/user/ozegold) has written a very good article about using a Stumble button on your site, if you're interested.

Thanks for the add to your blog contest.
Still a little slow on the stats front, possibly due to the time of day - 9am or there abouts where you are, and about 4am on the US east coast...
I don't usually write posts like the Britney one either. I'm running a trial to see how it goes in the search engines too...
www.sucomments.com/ has some great tips on Stumble as well! (Not my site) -
1. Get Toolbar
2. Add button to your blog if you wish (I sent the link to how to do it)
3. See a site you like or your own post click the thumbs up
4. If you thumb up your own post and someone visits it from stumble they may give it a thumbs up as well, using their toolbar or the button
5 . Keep adding places you like by clicking the thumbs up
6. Add your profile username to your blogcatalog account, goto account, edit account and then communities.
7. Join the stumble group here owned by whoever www.blogcatalog.com/group/stumble -
Thats good news!
I've just got into Stumble but I can't recall getting any traffic from it? I have an account - the toolbar and everything and I stumble, say a new site I've designed and it adds it to my favourites and that's it.
Do I need to do anything more??
Here's my stumble profile.. wandadog13.stumbleupon.com/
Can't help feeling I'm missing something somewhere - either that or no one shares my tastes?? Any help appreciated. -
For a start what you stumble shows like this 'Fabulous Photo Gifts - News, features and gossip: The Etch-a-Sketch help desk'
When you stumble alter the title so it is just 'The Etch-a-Sketch help desk'
You could do with adding friends on stumble as well. -
I just added you as a friend. Once you start getting friends and friends of friends it helps too...
I'm now officially one of your 'fans' too crkian
-
Linked up with you on Delicious/Digg/Facebook/Mybloglog/Twitter and here too. I'm also on Faves and Mixx as Ozegold. (Plus a stack of others, but there are only a set number of hours in the day).
I've spent most of the past few months playing with Facebook and am only just starting to venture into the others! If anyone else wants to link up with me as well, feel free to! -
I had enough of facebook after a week, got fed up with being bitten, highjacked, getting flowers, presents, quizzes e.t.c e.t.c
-
I turn down most of the requests on facebook, other than friend ones.
I've found that by using the 'Blog Friends' application, that I am reaching a lot of people that I wouldn't normally reach.
I have also had people approach me about products that I sell and made a few sales, though I won't advertise there.
The networking thing is great for creating a buzz, and I have my FB account linked to delicious, twitter, linkedin and stumblupon.
Sorry if it sounds like a commercial for them... not intended! -
I've got two posts right now that are doing unexpectedly well with Stumble...
One in particular has been rolling like this for about 5 weeks (it's got some nutty amount of thumbs ups-- 36 I think?-- which has kept it going). It's brought several hundred visitors a day.
And now I'm beginning to see more Stumble visitors looking at some of my other pages, as well. But this part is taking a while. Stumble visitors are not necessarily curious visitors by nature.
I do Stumble my own stuff, but I also Stumble a lot of other people's work I like (or dislike) and take the time to write a solid review of each, which I think helps.
I don't know what the full impact of it will be; I think it's still going to take some time to figure that out. -
You're right about Stumblers not being curious as a rule, but the ones that are, and who come back are the ones you want anyway.
If I REALLY like something when I'm stumbling I will often digg it and add it to faves.com or reddit.com as well, depending on how much time I have. -
Hi all,
I've just finished adding everyone else here to my friends on stumble, I still need some help though(people keep telling me this).
Anyway I can stumble sites but it only seems to give me the option of stumbling my friends favourite sites and not my friends. How do I stumble my friends sites(which would be you lot).
I need a step by step guide. Let's assume I wanted to specifically stumble ozegold, how do I do that? I already found out how to review a friends site, just don't know how to stumble it. Thanks.
Tony:) -
-
Hi all,
Ok so far it's taken ages to work this out,I will attempt to work my way through my 'friends' list at Stumble but first I need to check if i've done this right.
So far the first friend on the list was ozegold, I visited your blog and I liked the online bullying article so made a comment. Then after a long time trying to find out how to review your blog I did a review on it at Stumble, does this now mean I have actually stumbled you? Or have I just written a review on your blog and that's it? How do I actually stumble a site? Still not sure on that. Boy i'm sounding pretty stupid right now, it can't really be that hard can it?
Ok will await replies.Thanks
Tony:)
P.S. Let me know if your review shows up as i'm not even sure I did that correctly.-
Thanks for the comment on the blog Tony! Four boys! We had four girls, and often wondered what boys would be like... finding out now
Did you notice the 'comment luv' feature on my comments? It tries to find the last post on the commenter's blog... I used it go your site and stumble your post! Enjoyed the article!
Your review didn't show up - I thumb first, then review!
When you add friends, you show up as a fan. You become mutual friends once they add you.
Cheers
PS - sounding dumb sometimes simply means that you're smart enough to ask questions and learn
-
I found your review - you gave my SU profile a great review, and that's good too! Doing that gives other stumblers something to go by.
Because we don't see each other face to face, a review like that builds confidence for other members of the community! Thanks!
If you have the SU toolbar on your browser, simply click the little thumb, then click the white balloon if you wish to review a site!
-
Hi Tony, you can feel free to add me to your stumble friends also, I am on your list here. I'm even more recent to Stumble than you are, so I'm also trying to figure things out there
-
Hi Mark,
I've only been able to add friends either from their profile or from a link they've given me here, can you give me your stumble link and i'll add you for sure. Thanks.
Tony:) -
Yes stoneman, i've added everyone here to my stumble friends list, i've found out how to review my friends sites but I still don't know how to stumble a friends site, any help would be appreciated.
You think there would be a button that says "stumble this site", guess that's too easy.
Tony:)
P.S. Thanks legbamel, i'll try that.-
Ok Mark,
I eventually got around to reviewing your site on stumble, gave it the thumbs up then did the review,I believe that means i've actually stumbled you, let me know if it increased your traffic any, probably won't know the answer to that one till later tonight.
Mind you I could have driven them away with my review, lol, only joking, got to go out for a few hours now but i'll continue to stumble friends later today.
If anyone else wants me to add them as a friend at stumble just put your link here, i've got most already in this discussion, still waiting on two to give me their link as I couldn't find it in their profile.
Tony:) -
Thanks. I'll let you know if anything happens. If experience is anything to go by, your typical Stumbler traffic doesn't go for the stuff I have on Clio and Me. I think that might have something to do with the material often taking more than a few seconds to take in. Stumblers---like TV channel surfers---often want instant gratification. The funny thing is, the one site I have that offers instant gratification, Miscellany from Past and Present, actually has lower traffic than the other stuff. But that traffic is not Stumble traffic.
Question: Why would you say you're not normally into history, but you have a news blog. Don't news and history go together?
-
-
I'm thinking the point of Stumbler is not just promotion, but discovering cool things. Ideally a person could play by the rules and help out others. I've stumbled a bunch of good stuff over the past several days, only a couple things mine (couldn't resist). It would be nice if people surfing took the time to look at these posts and decide if they also thought they were stumbleworthy. If so, fine. If not, well, not. Cool too. I'm planning on doing more of that in future. If nothing else, maybe I'll help good pages find exposure. And maybe, just maybe, the good karma I accumulate will come back in a good way on StumbleUpon too. If nothing else, it's fun to find and share.
Here goes. (And then I'll finally get back to all those papers I'm grading.) -
-
Well, I must be thick because I can't work SU out at all! Why do I see a link to my website in my profile, yet when I click on "his blog" there is nothing there! I know I am new there, so not had time to review anything, but surely it's possible to edit your own blog settings?
Perhaps I had a hard day, or even looking for excuses for my lack of patience! -
I still don't get SU, but then again, I haven't used it much. I logged in today and played around a little. I guess I'll figure it out eventually
-
It is about choosing sites you like and categorizing them. If you then surf with the SU toolbar, you will only get prescreened sites. That can be interesting. It's like requesting a random site, but only within a specific range of categories and only those that other Stumblers think are worthwhile. That's how it is supposed to work, anyway.
Bloggers are interested in getting their own posts stumbled, so that they appear in the browsers of stumblers just looking for a random good read. If enough people stumble a post, it can lead that post to appear in front of a lot of people who were not necessarily looking for your site, but who have expressed an interest in your general subject matter. Your site pops up in their page. Chances are, they will evaluate in about a second or two and either stay a bit longer or move on. If you're really lucky, they will actually bookmark your site for future reference. Since they did not seek it out on their own, though, the numbers of those who decide to stay will be small.
So why bother? It might feel good to get hundreds of extra readers. Moreover, once you get into high numbers, the bad odds start to look more worthwhile. If one in a couple hundred returns, you've accomplished something.
Now the question is, how to play the stumbling game without doing one-for-one exchanges, which are against the SU TOS. Also, you probably only want to stumble stuff that you think is somehow worthwhile. Otherwise other users will have no reason to explore what you've stumbled and maybe stumble it too.
That's what I've learned so far, anyway.

I've had some great luck with Stumbleupon. Over the month of November, it has sent me over 15,000 visitors to www.flickrpuppies.com. Here's hoping for even more in December.
Check out the link above, and feel free to stumble a few pages while you are there if you like them! -
-
I just joined StumbleUpon and I am trying to see the benefit of it.. but honestly there is so many things out there.. I need to concentrate on a few only.. I feel like I am being pulled in all directions especially that I am just now getting to know all these things due to me blogging and trying to share and get feed back regarding my posts..
-
It gets easier when you can learn with a great bunch of people like the ones here! I've been using Stumble for a while, but have learned heaps more here than I knew before!
I'm a member of a lot of sites, I join them to try, and stay where I find a sense of community, like here!
Gee, I have to say thanks to everyone for a great thread!
Even if you think your questions are dumb or stupid, by asking them, you help everyone learn more!
Go here to learn more www.blogcatalog.com/group/stumble -
I agree reading through this has helped me to get to understand SU and get with reading blogs of very interesting content.. and I have been joining different sharing sites.. but BC is the most that I am enjoying.. because when I made my blog before I didn't know how to look for good blogs that would interest ME by looking at the profiles and summury of there blogs.. BC kind of sums all my interests in one place and its easy to follow others and hopefully get more readers and traffic to my blog that would be interested in what I like to share or write or post of my photos..

Hi all,
Well I failed my promise today to get stumbling again but I was gone for the best part of the day, unforseen circumstances beyond my control which very rarely happens. I'll spend an hour or so adding more people on this discussion to my stumble friends.
The idea I had was to visit each stumble friend each week,or if the list gets too long every two weeks, you know about 8 per day, if I see an article worth a comment then I will and stumble it, no point in having friends if you don't visit them on a regular basis right?
Will try it out for a couple of months and see what happens, you should post your feedback in a post here at different times so we can all see the results eg: time of day the most stumbles, articles getting the most hits eg: humor, news or something else etc...
Let me know what you think, ok off to add the rest of you, will be stumbling maybe a little tonight, will post if I get that far, and most of the weekend.
Tony:) -
Hi all,
Ok got to stumble harleyblues who was next on my list, I think your friends list pops them in alphabetical order. Anyway did a comment on your blog about the hostage situation, gave it the thumbs up and did a review, let me know how the traffic goes.
You have to download the stumble toolbar for this thing to work by the way,if your using firefox it's an add-on and goes right in your browser,it's pretty cool now i'm getting the hang of it.

Could somebody take 5 seconds and stumble one of the best posts i've ever made? I don't have the stumble toolbar yet, so I can't do it myself. I want to see how much traffic I get, as an experiment. Plus, I think you'll enjoy the post.

Hi all,
Just stumbled globalgirl, gave it the thumbs up and did a review, let me know how it goes.
Ok Appleman i'll do yours next, it takes me a while but i'll post back when i'm done.

Marking a stumble as adult when it's not?
What it does is restricts the number of visitors who would stumble if they have set their preferences that way!
It also keeps kids away who might like it! May affect other stumblers view of you, which is something to be careful of!
I changed it when I stumbled it!
-
Hi all,
Last person I just stumbled was MeghnaK, also made a comment on your blog, well done. Now I seem to have the hang of this thing i'm going to stop posting here, it will make the discussion huge and I believe you can tell when i've reviewed you or stumbled you. I'm done for tonight but will carry on over the weekend.
Feel free to stumble me back, no obligation but it would be nice to see how this things works from my end. Until tomorrow then.
I'll still check this discussion just in case anyone else wants me to add them to my SU friends.

So sorry I won't be able to see the vid, i'm still on this old pc which can't view vids and it has no sound:(
Glad you liked the comment.

Here's a quick question about Stumble Upon...is there any way for me to know, or be notified (other than checking Google Analytics) when when of my posts is Stumbled?
I've been Stumbled a few times and I always see a spike in visits, but I never know until I check my stats? I checked the Stumble Upon website, but couldn't find any info regarding this... -
I was noticing this morning that the Stumble visitors who now are coming back through Stumble for a second of my posts, seem to be then checking out other pages as well.
Not a huge percentage of people, but more. So here's hoping that after seeing the site a few times their curiousity will finally be piqued. -
The best StumbleUpon traffic day ever for THINKing - my-creativeteam.com/blog - was 630. Now, does the traffic have staying power? I don't think so, but the volume looks good to Alexa.
-
Hi all,
I really don't know if i'm doing this stumble thing right,i've viewed friends sites, gave them the thumbs up, then reviewed their site, from what I gather this is an actual stumble(tell me if i'm wrong).
I've stumbled 12 sites now but recieved no feedback to let me know if it's working,I don't mind helping out getting traffic but I don't want to be wasting time if it's not working. Can anyone let me know if i've either done this correctly and if so that it made any difference, appreciate it.
Also I saw that I had one review but when I check it all I can find is a review on a history site for Jonathon. My site is a news blog and my name is Tony so i'm either looking at someone else's review, or someone reviewed someone else's site but posted it under me. Can someone check that for me please? Or if someone could actually do a review for me so I can tell where to go from here.
I'll continue to do this if it's beneficial but i'll stop if it's not so i'd like to know one way or the other. Not sure why SU can't make this a little simpler. I've been on there for 3 days now and i'm still a little confused.

Hey Tony,
I've reviewed your latest story about the whaling, and given your main domain a thumbs up!
Click on the comment balloon on your toolbar, and you will see that a number of people have liked it.
I've also submitted your story at a few other places.
The best thing that I can say is that it takes time. Because Stumble is above all a social network, concentrate on that part of it. Get to know others, and let them get to know you as well.
When my caffeine levels are restored to a reasonable level I may be able to help more...

In how many places have you posted this link? Pasting it in a million places is inappropriate. Why not do one shameless blog promotion and then do like the rest of us, participate in discussion? I've already removed your spam from a history thread. I suppose now BC admin will do it here too. Wonder how many other threads you've thus far blessed.

During the peak of the Burma protests in September earlier this year, I got 750 extra visitors after stumbling this Burma post:-
www.arvinddevalia.com/blog/2007/10/01/candle-of-hope-for-burma/
So the trick is to write something very topical and then stumble it :-)
Good luck everyone. -
A few things I've learned in the past two days about stumbling: categories and tags matter. I also have the impression that the greater amount of stuff you've stumbled, the more weight your stumbles carry. I could be full of it, but that seems to be the case. I remember Terence Chang blogging about that once too, but I can't remember the details or the actual post.
-
Today has been my greatest SU day yet. I've had a very popular post (moneymoose.com/frugal-living-extreme/frugal-living-extreme-12-dishwashers/) getting about 200 uniques per day for the past two days and today that's gone up to 600. If anyone wants to contribute to this snowball rolling down a giant snowpacked hill (horrible metaphor) then please do
-
I'm posting this link here because it is relevant to this discussion. I have no connection to the site other than that the article was written by a fellow stumbler and friend!
The author is very knowledgeable when it comes to Stumbleupon. She explains how thumbs are weighted, and why some thumbs up may score better than others!

Hi Allan,
Thanks for that link, it seems to me you don't have to review a site in order to stumble it, which was how I was thinking. According to that article you only have to give it the thumbs up which is interesting.
I think your next post is right too though, the more you stumble, write reviews and make friends your exposure gets to become more, makes sense, i'll keep with this for a while, i'm checking my stats but only have google analytics and it only updates every 24hrs, means I have to wait a full day to compare.

If you're using a worpress blog, you can get a wordpress stats plugin that is a way lot faster! You can find it by going to wordpress.org and following the links to the plugins.
It uses the same activation key as Akismet, the anti spam plugin.
In answer to the earlier question about installing a button on your blog, you can if you want though it's not necessary!
I've done it and written about how to do it and find the code at...
allancockerill.com/blogging/add-a-stumbleupon-button-to-your-blog - I hope it's ok to post that here...

My stumbleupon efforts over the weekend included lots of stumbling of original material not stumbled before, some stumbling of friends stuff, as well as a few strategic stumbles of my own stuff. The only blog that attracted StumbleUpon traffic then was my tumblelog, which has such a wide variety of topics that I can categorize the posts under more popular headings than history. The numbers have not been impressive, but there was a real increase. Whether that continues or not is another matter.
This kind of promotion takes a lot of time, but it might be worth it, especially if your SU friends sometimes choose the SU toolbar option to view friends stumbles.
Anyway, amazing power? Maybe, but I think it depends on what gets stumbled, what categories it is stumbled under, and who stumbles it. There also seems to be a certain luck factor with regard to timing, as there is on these boards. I would recommend it as part of a promotion strategy, but I would not expect miracles, just slow, steady progress.
Results may vary for each blogger.-
I notice that I am also getting a little mileage from a Mac post on Mellel, a word processor that used to get a lot of attention, but little of it written clearly enough. I thought the topic might do well. Now are they reading? Seems like very few of these SU hits lead a blogger to click another page.
-
Based on the times listed on my site, I do believe they read. As for clicking another page, I've noticed that the more successful Stumbles your work has, where visitors see both pages, the more they seem to get curious and click around a little.
I've had more Stumblers recently look at more than one page than I did in the beginning.
As you'd said, it seems to take time to build.
Fun, though. There's some really interesting stuff out there.

To Stumble a Page
1) Add the toolbar if you haven't already.
2) Visit a page you like
3) Click on the thumb up.
To Review a Page using "From the page:"
1) Visit a page you like.
2) Click on the thumb up
3) Click on Reviews (the icon looks like a cartoon quote balloon).
4) Add any html (if you're interested, I made a post a while back that lists all the html codes you can use on SU, with examples: tinyurl.com/2kpmmq)
5) Click Save Changes.

yikes. I just joined SU. in trying to get the lay of the land I accidentally emailed my ENTIRE yahoo contact list inviting them to SU and of course my profile on there. ex-boyfriends from 2years ago, priest at church, my grandmother's bridge group, former bosses and clients
perhaps a lesson I should clean out my contact list at least once a year
please tell me SU is a worthwhile community and it will make up for my short-term embarassment!!-
I can tell you it's my favorite Web 2.0 community, and that I've been using it forever. Well, okay, not forever, but for almost 3 years now. My husband and mother are both on it, although my mom is still unsure about posting anything. Of all the communities I've been a part of, it's one of the only ones I really wouldn't worry about having anyone sign up for. The way it's set up, there really is pretty much something for everyone on it.
Hope this helped some.

teeg -- thanks so much for taking the time to talk me off the ledge. I am super cautious about spamming friends/family, not to mention former colleagues I haven't communicated with in ages! but the more I look around the more I think I am going to like SU
although it's going to be tough to top blogcatalog. have found some GREAT blogs and interesting content since joining this crowd
thanks again!! -
I totally understand...I've done the same thing before, and not for a site that was anywhere near as good as StumbleUpon. There was a site not long ago that when someone opened up an address book to send the invite to a few friends would automatically send at least one invite to everyone in the book. They even sent text messages to cell phone numbers! I had a friend who thought her cousin had invited her, and so she checked it out, and I ended up with two or three e-mails just from her visit. Uggh!
I'm just getting started on BC, but really like what I've seen so far.
Glad I could help!

Has anyone tried BlogRush? It is somewhat similar to stumble, but works through the power of a widget on various blogs, instead of centralized on a single site.
