Something I was wondering today - A lot of people hate Blogspot blogs but there have to be some that are doing very well. A couple of questions I had that ran through my mind:

Which is the best Blogspot blog?
Is there a list of the best Blogspot blogs in whatever categories?

That is a very good blog!! I enjoy reading it!
    2. gerri50
I just took a look at ‘The Religious Policeman’ and found it very interesting. It’s a shame it is now inactive.

It depends on how you define "best." If you're talking a credible source reviewing only Blogspot blogs and ranking them, well, I don't know that I've heard of any organization taking that on yet.

And otherwise, I'm afraid, it'll just be up to independent taste and we Blogspotters endorsing our own.
    1. gerri50
I like what you said, ‘independent taste’.
What would be your pick? One of your blogs?
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, I feel good about my blogs and the effort I've put into them, but are they the best blogspot blogs out there?

I can't say, as I haven't been to all of the other blogspot blogs.

I can say they fill their niches in a unique way, because I have done some marketing analysis on the niche before I began blogging.

But just because my kind of approach is different, doesn't make it automatically better. One thing doesn't necessarily exclude the others.

I try to focus on bringing quality content and original material. I don't see dwelling on too much comparison as being really productive.

I would pick one of Jenn's (thriftshopromantic) she is a wonderful writer

      This is one of hers.
      cabbages-n-kings.blogspot.com/
    4. ThriftShopRomantic
      You're very sweet, Claire. Thanks.
    5. CrotchetyOldMan
I'd second (or would it be third?) that Jenn's blog is very well done.
Best is very subjective. It depends on what criteria is being used to judge a blog.

I read a lot of blog's every day, and whether they are blogspot of wordpress or otherwise has no bearing on the quality of the blog. In fact, I'd be hard pressed to tell you which are blogspot without going to look. I just know what I like, and for me, those are the best.

And as far as any list, humor-blogs lists blogs in order, and I don't agree with their lists. That and 5 bucks will get you a cup of bad coffee at Starbucks.
    6. chatblanc
big darn ditto on Crotchety's comments.

I don't pay a bit of attention to whether it's a blogspot blog or not.

I chose blogger because it was recommended by a friend as easy to use.
    1. gerri50
You just made me hungry. It’s almost 1am over here and not the best time to be eating.
I like the blog by the way

(edited out, got the wrong spot)
  5. crpitt
I think Chica-x has done an excellent job at turning blogspot blogs into attractive looking things indeedy.

    She has three great ones.
    chica-x.blogspot.com/
    photo-projectz.blogspot.com/
    dear-chica.blogspot.com/

She also made mine look good.
    crpitt.blogspot.com/
    stickfiguregrrl.blogspot.com/

Once they look good, its up to blogger to actually post something that's worth reading or looking at, there is no point being all fur coat and no knickers.

I certainly don't think mine are anywhere near the best, but I love the way they look now
    1. ChicaX
      Hey thanks for the shoutz!
    2. CrotchetyOldMan
Fur coat and no knickers is actually a pretty good look.

Maybe not for me, but ya know, for a woman.

      Just sayin'
    3. crpitt
      no probs chica

@joe, I am glad you clarified that it was not a good look for you, although it would go with those boots of yours
    4. thoughtsofg
Holy monkeys those are good looking blogs.
    5. JaneQCitizen
      Those are great, Chica.

Do you do it for a living? Or can you share a few tips?

I can't figure out how to separate the link styling. I like to style sidebar, header and post bodies different -- but all change when I change one.
    6. ChicaX
No I don't do it for a living, thought about it, but decided against it. check out www.bloggerbuster.com/ Amanda has some great tips on her blog, you'll be able to modify like I do in no time, with a little sweat and tears.
  6. GFG
i think the good ones are

    www.fishforfood.blogspot.com
  7. thematrix777
Exactly who is "a lot of people"?

I have one of my Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) websites on blogspot/blogger and I think it's serving its purpose. The purpose is to explain the disease/condition and help others who have it.

I'm just not sure who you are referring to that should "approve" of my blog.
  8. Arashmania
I've heard some good things about this one ; )

  9. lotusb
They put out a feed of the ones they are "taking notice of" I don't know if that means they are the BEST but at least a good read. Mine was featured on the list a month back:

    www.lotusb.blogspot.com
    1. JaneQCitizen
And it is a GREAT blog!
  10. COOLINGSTAR9
Many people say coolingstar9.blogspot.com/ is good. Is it really good?
  11. kristilinauer
Oh, mine! Mine! I'm sure of it!

  12. NatureRemains
It depends who you're targeting as your audience.
Young, teen, pop-culture addicts would define "great" in a way very different from middle-aged, spiritual or scientific-minded individuals.

Basic elements of layout, good writing, pleasing images and thought-provoking commentary might be a good list to start with. And, first impressions go a long way toward inviting people "in," and making them feel welcome and comfortable.

What do you mean by "best" Blogspot (Blogger) blog?

My initial thought would be that many may not like blogging on Blogger because its user interface doesn't give as much exposure to the blog layout as other blogging services like Wordpress. The other side is that Blogger allows direct access to the underlying template which allows much more customization options at the cost of needing to know more about web design. I tried Wordpress and others with the larger "friendlier" user interfaces and hated them. There are some features missing from Blogger, but it's coming along and they will probably show up.

If by best you refer to the quality or authority/reliability of posts, then this is irrelevant and not a valid question to ask about Blogger blogs. Best in this case depends directly on the individual bloggers and has nothing to do with which platform they pick to blog. Many blogs with custom URL's may be a Blogger blog or any competing platform. Unless the blogger is using a stock template, the reader would never know.
    1. JaneQCitizen
I don't know. I've seen some spectacular layouts and designs with blogger. Not that I know how to do 'em ... yet. But I'm learning

FYI, Google does maintain a feature called "Blogs of Note" which is visible when Blogspot users log into their dashboard. That's how I find it, anyway.
I've found some pretty neat blogs that way.

Of course, they haven't gotten to mine yet - which makes it the best unnoted blog on blogspot:-D

I think "best" is subjective, but I don't think a blog is good or bad based on who hosts it. It's all about content.
  18. magnamatt
Blogspot is easy...just add content and go. That's "best" for me.
  19. drjay1966
Mine is best both because of who hosts it and the content.
    yogaforcynics.blogspot.com
  20. mikeny07
The "Blogs of Note" always picks weird blogs. They never pick anything I would read. I have seen much better blogs than they ever listed and those blogs never get any credit.
    1. drjay1966
yeah mikeny07, I've been awfully curious about their criteria, especially since the ones they pick are often really esoteric or personal (in the sense that only the bloggers friends and family would likely be interested)
    2. GregBecerra
I've read a comment from the team that picks them that said they pick blogs where something catches their attention. This could be a single post or maybe a layout of something. Overall it isn't based on any standard of quality which seems odd since they are recommending them. Their process is very subjective and limited to their personal tastes, which for the most part seem a bit bland and safe.

    identitycheck-anok.blogspot.com/

Hands down. (Unless one of the ones I occasionally read uses Blogspot as a platform. If so, it's not quite "hands down.")
  22. agapelife
Check mine as it won't be active for long, I wanted an interactive site and as yet it is not, if I do not see it becoming interactive, I will move on.
    empower-you.blogspot.com
  23. clive
I think I read somewhere that this is the top performing blog of all time, and its a blogspot blog.

    www.jonnyalisblog.com/
  24. thelookout
Google has its own directory of 'Blogs of Note', but its not split into categories - blogsofnote.blogspot.com/

Also www.darkroastedblend.com/ is run on Blogger through a custom domain - its PR6 and top 20k Alexa

The biggest of them all though, as far as I know, is the well-loved postsecret.blogspot.com/ - PR7 & top 7k Alexa.
  25. ChicaX
So ya make me pick eh? sheesh. Well I'll pick one that I enjoy reading, but is not a friend, as my friends already know I love their blogs.

    So I'll recommend photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/
  26. mikeny07
Well it shows a blog with a black blackground like mine can still be popular

A PR 7 for a blog is amazing. I would like to know how they did it. DMOZ listing also. They turned me down for all of my blogs. What is the secret?
  27. chief302
I think mine is awesome, surprisingly enough...

I've seen a lot of self-nomination in this thread.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
      Was there any surprise?

I was hoping the conversation would lead to someone saying, "Hey, there's a credible organization that reviews and ranks blogs..."

      But alas.
    2. CrotchetyOldMan
I've found many blogs that are rank. Does that count?
    3. ChicaX
Kobra: Yeah a few too many..
  29. GFG
    hahahahahahaha
    1. voodooKobra
      What's so funny?

I read this sometimes coppersblog.blogspot.com/ and I read this one a lot: pcbloggs.blogspot.com/
  37. timethief
Who the heck would be in a position to judge The Best Blogspot Blogs? IMO this is just a feeble excuse for posting a link drop thread and promoting a poll based on self nomination - how lame.
    1. gerri50
Aren’t a number of similar polls conducted in the same manner? You submit your blog and people vote? If you look at the blog, you can submit your own blog OR SOMEONE ELSE’S BLOG THAT YOU THINK IS DESERVING OF A NOMINATION.
  38. timethief
Indeed they are, and the fact that bloggers can nominate their own blogs and even vote for them too is why IMO these "contests" are lame.
  39. drjay1966
    Mine mine mine...sorry timethief...

    yogaforcynics.blogspot.com

Though, as for the general issue of blogspot blogs--I think their probably as proportionally good or lame as any other kind of blogs.
