As a new blogger I would like all the advice possible on how to get traffic to your blog/site.
And please also check out my blog on places2visitb4udie.blogspot.com/ and tell me how I can improve.

wrote a post about one of my students, which was then linked at a homeschoolers blog, it kinda brought out the worst in a few people who took it as an opportunity to trash me personally and professionally but in the end I had tons of people in the homeschooling world that supported what I had to put up with, it was crazy on my blog for about a week and I got tons of traffic.

Wrote brilliant, inspired, fascinating copy (well, wrote copy - lots of it - mostly on one topic/post).
Joined BlogCatalog - and a few other online communities. BlogCatalog has been a good source of traffic - not huge, but enough to stand out from the background noise.-
I've checked out your blog: Roughly one post a week may be enough, but if you can do more and keep the quality, I'd do so.
Appearance is fine, quite attractive and easy to read.
You might want to check the appearance of your unordered list in places2visitb4udie.blogspot.com/2009/04/maya-ruins-belize.html - there's a lot of white space above it in my browser. If the cause is what I think it is, it's a quick fix. -
I've checked the link places2visitb4udie.blogspot.com/2009/04/maya-ruins-belize.html in my IE n I don't see any white space. Could someone check it in another browser for me?

How does Blogupp actually work?
You install a widget in your blog and then other blogs with the same widget help promote your blog and you help them?
But how does it happen and does it make any real difference? -
@ATraveler
I have a post that contains 25 steps you can take that will definitely increase organic blog traffic. Once you click through to the post you will find internal links to how to articles for each of the steps. Here's the link to:

My traffic increased when I posted this:

Newsletter was a mailing list, we had 30,000 strong up until Jan 2007
Now we're down to about 15,000 and have yet to send one on in 1 1/2 years.
Long story. -

I wrote long posts with lots of keywords. Then I started a massive back linking campaign. All of that paid off with my site getting better and better positions in the search engines. Which led to more and more people finding my site.
I don't use pictures on my blog
I don't have a facebook account
I don't have a entrecard account
I don't write about anything popular (just potato recipes)
I spend a lot of time doing key word research
I spend very little time writing my post
I spend most of my time getting back links
I have seen a steady and substainable increase in traffic every week since I started my blog. Sometimes I go weeks and weeks without posting anything new. Yet my traffic numbers continue to go up. -
I go to frat parties at local colleges and tattoo my url on the foreheads of passed out undergrads. In no time, everybody on campus is checking out my blog.

Stumble. Although I feel stumble traffic is not the most valuable traffic, I do get about 600 visitors from it per day and that number makes me happy.
Join stumble upon, get a following of loyal stumble friends, and then thumbs up a few of your pages and share them with your friends.-
I'm also a stumbleupon member and I spend a great deal of time stumbling posts. Although I have many friends there I'm cautious about repeatedly stumbling posts from the same sites. This is why:
When the Ban Hammer Comes Down on StumbleUpon"
sem-group.net/search-engine-optimization-blog/when-the-ban-hammer-comes-dow... -
I've tried Stumbleupon, and personally, I just don't like it. It's like work. Or maybe I'm just not using it properly, but I don't enjoy it.
I love BC for that reason: I get a fair bit of my traffic from here, but promoting on BC doesn't feel like promoting, because it's fun. I've always loved message boards, and using BC or my IMDb boards to plug my blog doesn't feel like an effort.
Whereas SU just strikes me as a hassle. I don't know, I just don't get it. -
Yeah, I am kind of worried about that as well. I do a new post on my blog every day, but delay "discovering" it on stumble for about 2 days. In the meantime, I will use stumble and thumb up/down/review about 30 to 50 pages between my own submissions. I hope that will be enough to evade the ban hammer.
When you submit your page, do you submit it yourself? Do you share it with all of your friends or a select few?

I'm starting to do backlinking in my new posts. Each time I finish a new post, I also grab one of my old posts and give it some links, too. Eventually the old stuff will all have backlinks. It alot of work! I have to be patient!

Deep link to your earlier related posts in your new posts;

One of the best things I ever did to get traffic was to download a free Blog SEO kit.
I went from a 1.8% optimization to over 90%. It is crazy nowadays.
Let me know if any1 wants to download this optimization kit. Its FREE and its not mine, so I am not self-promoting. -
I added some music to my blog and a poll to see what music my readers liked the best so I can change it to their liking. The poll isn't working as well as I would like but I am getting more visitors.
I'm working on it so the visitor can choose what music they want to listen to while there. -

Latief, I am suggesting that very thing in my next business blog post. I have about 30 really sound suggestions for getting traffic. As a matter of fact, the name of my new blog is Lynne Gordon's Free Traffic Blog. lol
I have found some amazing resources!
Any1 who want to stop by, you can leave both your link and a picture of yourself with my new widget.
It's here: 6millionrich.com/100PercentHealth
I know the name is a little funky and I will probably move it. But I was in a hurry to get it up because of a new promotion I am starting in a few weeks.
So stop by and take a look. Leave a pic and a message and get some link love from da' Goddess! -
Is it just me or is watching how-to videos getting boring?
Am I just old-school if I prefer to read a book on how to do something?
I think I comprehend more when I read it than having it 'talked' to me.
I think I will go and visit the young lady's blog who started this conversation. -
The very first thing I do to drive traffic to my any new blog or site or page is email marketing and then sharing that with my stumble upon friends.
The next thing I do is trying to get the higher position in the search engine by building links, as much as possible, posting comments to other blogs.
I then in my third step, bookmark the blog or site or blog and submit RSS feeds to feed directories.
I drive traffic to my blog this way and it always works for me. You may try it too and I hope that it'll work for you too. All the best! -
Twitter is useful if have people following you.(smallkine)Double the work load if you ask me.

There are a number of ways to build traffic on your blog. Depending on your goals, you may want to approach it differently.
I use twitter to stimulate the conversation on my blog. I'll post a link, ask questions, and link to reader comments on twitter.
When first starting out, it can be very tough to build traffic organically, but for my goals, it has been the most effective method. I still haven't used an email subscription, but it's something that I'd like to do.
Post on others' blogs too, especially if they're related to your blog. One trick is to find the most popular blogs in your industry and comment on their posts first. They get thousands of hits on their posts, and if you're the first comment, you'll get a lot of traffic out of it. That's not to say you should spam other blogs. The comment should still be relevant and contribute value. Otherwise, no one will click to see who the smart person behind the comment is
Hope that helps! If you'd like more tips or advice at any time, feel free to message me (=

Scribnia.com The world's bloggers reviewed by you. -
I try to write interesting posts that I'm interested in.
Joined some places like BC and Stumble.
But mainly just slowly building it. Making friends with other bloggers I like and respect and have it happen organically.
Also depends on what type of traffic you're looking for.
With Stumble, I get lots of hits, but I think the bounce rate is higher. That's not the kind of traffic I'm looking for. I want people who read the posts, comment and are generally interested.
Good luck!! -
There are some great tips on here. I agree with the others that it takes patience to increase your traffic. I think that commenting and following other blogs (relationship building on the web) is a way to really increase your own traffic.
I hope to have more traffic by the end of the year, and have my google adsense working for me.
Thanks for all the tips. -
The best think we did to get traffic was not to agonize over it.
Our expectation was not to have one visitor for 12 months. (Other than advertising networks or GoogleBot.....oh, and the occasional visit from Mom!)
Primary focuses consisted of various SEO strategies, stimulating content, building an online presence, and other methods of marketing and promotion.
One day your blog may be "discovered" for truly what it is...
Amaze them.
