If someone had never read the Bible before and asked you what book you would recommend they read first what would you reply? and if you have time, why?
Or perhaps a book you would recommend NOT be the first to read.
P.S. I am serious with this question on a personal level so I would appreciate honest answers. I do so thank anyone whom may reply!
PEACE!!!

For anyone who is new to the scriptures, especially one who questions the validity there of; I suggest the book of Proverbs. Without attaching the backdrop of religion or belief, this book still holds great worth as a teaching tool. As stated within the first seven verses (Prologue), it is meant to impart understanding and discernment. Written by King Solomon, himself known for wisdom, it sets up the structure for instruction and learning. If viewed as a teaching tool, either as being between father and son, teacher and student, or King to his subjects; it illustrates a great portrait of the culture and times. This better shapes the mindset necessary to understand what is referenced in the other Biblical books. It is never enough to just understand the words written but also, and probable of more importance, to understand the Writer and their reason for writing. Because of the changes in time and culture, this is key to any study of the Bible for both believer and non-believer.
As a Christian, the book also carries greater significance. It places order to the roles of God, Christ, The Holy Spirit, and man. It establishes God's place as first, without question. Without fear, or respect for Him, we can't began to take hold of any knowledge. (Pr.1:7) It also makes clear that without Christ; "the wisdom of God" (Cor. 1:24, 30), and The Holy Spirit; the counseler, the teacher and guide for understanding, we can never quite achieve any acceptable rightiousness. (Pr. 1:2-6) For man there is no real life without secureing the desier to seek these. They carry more value than any material riches this world has to offer. (Pr. 8) The understanding of this one book will give deep insight to the Christian who wishes to creat a well grounded relationship with the whole of The Divine Trinity; Father, Son, and Spirit.
No matter what your reasons for reading the Bible, or if you're a believer or not; the book of Proverbs is a good place to start your understanding of the scriptures, of God and the wisdom of God as it figures with man, as well as a prerequisit for the Gospels; which I suggest you follow with.
Blessings,
Matt. -
Religion is most like a computer virus for brains. It comes complete with instructions for development and propagation of the virus, and code that prevents the person from deleting it or noticing that it doesn't conform to reality. It is orchestrated, organized, and officially sanctioned psychosis, made easily digestible and palatable to the masses.
