You know, I guess I'm optimistic or stupid...but I was telling a few people that I really am not seeing it here (DC). Some people have said that DC is recession proof to a certain extent...I think it's pretty much true...

I'm in Halifax, Nova Scotia and the malls seem to be full. I wonder what the new year will bring?

Personally, I'd love to see them knock down the ginormous malls and start over with mixed-use development. Then maybe some of the 50 acres of parking lot could be stacked and/or underground, allowing for some green space and some walkable area. Wouldn't that be lovely? Then again, our mall is expanding. [sigh] The local mall was packed when I drove by at 3:30 on a Thursday afternoon, yesterday. I can only imagine what it will look like tomorrow afternoon.

Our local BIG mall has been dying a slow death for some ti me now - one of their own demise. I will not cry when I see it go.

On the other hand, the open, free form malls that have cropped up and replaced the big enclosed malls seem to be packed this season.
