The Elusive Naruto

My 12 year old son is obsessed with a cartoon character called Naruto. He wants to read Naruto books, watch Naruto cartoons, etc. He was thrilled with a Naruto necklace I bought him. I do NOT get this. I could understand a Scooby Doo obsession, or Fairly Oddparents, or even Spongebob, bu Naruto?! I had never even heard of him until a few months ago.

Anyone able to explain this to me?!

Inuyasha is much better.

I tried watching Naruto, but it bugs the heck out of me.

Then again, I'm not much in to Anime any ways.

It's a cartoon, it doesn't have to be historically accurate.
And as far as cartoons come, this one has a more interesting storyline than 99% of the general let's-shovel-merchandise stuff on tv, so rock on Naruto.
