The biggest threat to human race, the one thing that can wipe us out completely and make us extinct, emmm… I’m sure it’s top priority. Or is it? Currently, about 30% of the sky is not even surveyed! To quote astronaut Ed Lu from the Johnson Space Center “The number of people world wide who are working actively on this problem is enough to staff one shift in a McDonald’s”. Good night, sleep well; the planetary defense is in the hands of 4 kids with build-your-own-telescope kits.

So I'm not gonna live forever? Sh*t !

      Not with our ignore-it-and-it-will-probably-go-away attitude.

And regarding the living forever thing...

Cool graphics on the film. I know the possibility of a major catastrophe exists, but how good is the science behind the detailed descriptions of the hour-by-hour developments? Urikalish, presumably you are basing your comments on more than just this video. Want to try filling us in?

You might wanna start with this:
      urikalish.blogspot.com/2007/06/doomsday-rock-coming-your-way-at-15.html

p.s. What exactly do you wanna know?

I was just curious how accurate this video might be. I do know that scientists think about it. I've just never seen a scenario spelled out in such precise detail.

There seems to be evidence this sort of thing has happened before...cataclysmic cycles and what not.
    1. urikalish
It did happen many times before.
It will happen again for sure.
Will we discover it before it's too late?

Oooh. Cool video. And this will kill us even faster...

You know, if your kind of worry-about-it-and-it-will-never-happen attitude need some fuel.
    1. urikalish
      Yes, this too
  6. covertmetaphor
I think it will happen regardless of what we'll do. Unless we figure out a way to vacate this planet beforehand.

Regarding these rocks, there are things to do (follow the link), but we must act years or even decades before the impact time.

But you are right. No matter how we'll deal with these dangerous rocks, eventually we'll have to leave the solar system (the sun will die in a few billion years), and maybe even our entire Milky Way galaxy (the expected collision with the Andromeda galaxy).

    Wicked video!

Oh how I want to learn Japanese.
    1. clioandme
Yeah, the narrator made what was happening sound almost like a good thing. I wonder how it comes across to someone who understands the language.

Maybe it's their revenge on the U.S. for August 1945.

Well, it seems to follow in that Godzilla tradition.

The world ends for each of us the day we die. Everything else (science,religion,Politics...) is mere speculation (except for taxes of course.)
  9. Manictastic
I would so not want to live far away form the impact site. It would mean you would know you where going to die and just had to sit waiting outside looking at the clouds to see if your end is near yet.

    END THE WORLD NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The powers that be are capable of making us believe anything they want to and the people involved too.

It's a good way of putting huge sums of money in the 'disatser fund'.

    For example:
Let's tell the world that we have evidence of an alien threat and we need billions of $'s to set up a alien defence program. Kaboom, the money goes on the fictitious alien defence program. Do we question the legitimacy of the alien threat or just hope that the defence works? Well, it seems to work as we have not been invaded by aliens. And so on and so forth. It also stops us worrying about other things that are going on in reality.

      1. The sum of money invested in the defense against these doomsday rocks is ridiculous.

      2. It's not just another scare-them-so-they'll-pay thing.
      It did happen before.
It does happen all the time.
      It will happen again.
