I just published my first two *ever* podcasts .. and wonder what I could do to be better?

Now .. if only I had been interesting enough that people would have wanted to interview me in the past 3 years since I've started blogging back in May 2005 .. I could have practiced more! - but, go figure - nobody ever asked!

So - here's my first two .. (I called them 000.x versions because they are so crappy .. and put this discussion under "Blogging Help" rather than "Shameless Promotion" because I need it!)

Any constructive criticism or suggestions for new podcasts? Once I figure out how to do this, I think I would probably go for a weekly show about 10-20 minutes in length with my random musings.

There are lots of YouTube tutorials, but I haven't watched any .. I thought I would try myself first .. then, be more excited to learn something I didn't know!

Did you export as MP3... there's a dll to be added for mp3

I actually used Audacity to insert an MP3, and then recorded on a new track. I couldn't hear the music, but I can see the blank spaces or spastic needle movements. Then, after I recorded my voice, I just saved as an .mp3 converted by that Lame addon.

Maybe your soundcard is haf duplex

are you supposed to be able to listen to other tracks on audacity while you are recording? I think I would like to listen to the music as I talk at least to try, unless it distracts me.

Later in the summer, I want to figure out combining my Edirol USB midi port, and actually play some keyboards or something in these podcasts.

I don't use it for recording, only editing. I record on multitrack recorders and then run a digital cable into the machine.

My gears packed away, I'm moving house, otherwise I'd try it now. I use other recording software, I bought a prety good soundcard Tc Electronic and use cubase, I don't like it but it was easier to configure. The good thing about listening is you hear the poppy p's and sibilance and act and set levels accordingly.

That was pretty cool, although, I don't know that I like listening to the music practically the same volume as your voice, I'd lower it a bit. Other then that, I'd say you did a good job.

      Thanks

I guess its time to watch a few tutorials to practice mixing and other stuff on my next try.

That would help, soon you'll have to be known at DJ Hart. Has a nice ring to it eh?

Hope you weren't disappointed I know I was the first time I heard myself on tape ~

I agree with Chica X. There were parts that it was hard to hear what you said because of the music volume. It sounded as if you were speaking very softly but it was just that the music was too loud by comparison.

As I listen to #2 it seems better. I still think the sound level should be a little lower.

Thanks! I know you guys are right, of course

What did you think of Podcast #000.3? What I did on this 4rd was boost the microphone output a little (+5) and tried to keep the microphone closer to my mouth. I did leave the music at the same level as the other two podcasts (-27).

I think I have to invest in a bigger and better microphone, one that has styrofoam over it too. I tried to do one outside, and the wind kept whistling over the mic making it worse than the music.

Hopefully by 001.0 I can get this right
