The Longest Christmas Season

I wonder if there are more other places in the world where christmas is celebrated long.
In the Philippines, its already the christmas season by first week of september and it continues until january.. so halloween is just like "on the side" holiday.hehehe

It starts earlier each year! With Halloween being something of an adopted celebration, costume parties and such are very isolated.

Same in South Africa. Christmas crackers have been in the stores for weeks already, and this past month I started seeing tins of Christmas cookies and tree ornaments. The local equivalent of WalMart has already set up the Christmas lights section and has it working.

So far no Christmas carols on the store PA systems or adverts with reindeer or Father Christmas, and the malls don't have their Christmas decor up yet, but the retailers have been flogging Christmas-related stuff for at least a month already.

I find this particularly odd since South Africans aren't into Christmas the way Americans are. They do a lot of Christmas shopping, but not a lot of Christmas buying...mountains of gifts under the (always fake) tree are not the norm here.

Filipinos are definitely so into Christmas. For this year, I heard the first christmas carol on Sept 1, 2008 (Last Christmas I gave you my heart...). Imagine that?! It's like an unwritten rule or something. We ACTUALLY greeted one another merry christmas when the -BER months are already in.
Christmas preparations here are crazy..family reunions, shopping, christmas--theme villages, non-stop parties, 3A.M.church masses... It's like the most awaited season of the year (well you can notice how excited I am, heheh)
