Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. The spiritual journey is the relinquishment, or unlearning, of fear and the acceptance of love back into our hearts. Love is the essential existential fact. It is our ultimate reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life.

We exist. There is no meaning to our existence other than that which we decide upon.

Why doesnt really matter... its mostly about the how
    2. polybore
      Very pertinent.

polybore have you read my latest poem? it relates to this question and what you said. you might enjoy it. Take a look and comment your thoughts.

Enjoyed your poem. If we were at a writers group polybore might suggest. Take that theme and structure and tell it through a series of poetic stories, you have the experience, you have seen the stories. Good as it is it is slightly to literal, well for polybore at any rate.

You have said: We exist. There is no meaning to our existence other than that which we decide upon.

I can't help but ask what meaning you have decided to ascribe to your life?
    7. R1VERT1LT
@Timethief: Thank for your kind words and the review I am happy you enjoy my poetry.

    1. polybore
Unpleasant as this situation may seem it is the sweet spot to be in creativity.
    2. Stillthinking
I think you're right. If I hadn't been out of my field for so long, I would have never considered going back and getting my masters.
    3. polybore
It is a down turn. It may not get as good as it was before but it will get a whole lot better than it is just now. You are making the best of it which is exactly the right thing to do.

Thanks Polybore. If you read that in your Scottish accent, Dicken's would be so much more palatable.

That was a hint by the way. If you put audio of you reading on your blog, I may visit it several times a day!
    5. timethief
Aye and I'm also a sucker for an accent.
    6. Stillthinking
It isn't just the sexy, sexy brogue, but also the deep, rumbling baritone that he is blessed with.

      Seriously hot.
    7. polybore
OK all subsequent polybore blog posts will have an audio file associated with them. . Multimedia polyboredom it is you have only yourselves to blame.
    8. Stillthinking
Excellent. My excitement knows no bounds. *jumps up and down*

Anyone else with a hot accent who will be willing to read on their blog for my listening pleasure?

I think I can think of a certain Aussie and a certain Kiwi I would enjoy audio for...

Of course, now I associate all Kiwi's with Flight of the Concords...

At the moment too distracted, but will try to reply later.. and yes, thanks for the short post! I always skim over lengthy ones and never click links!

I do hope you will come back and share your thoughts in the meaning and purpose of life. I visited you blog and was fascinated. I read posts and then decided to review your blog for BC. I like it.
    2. crazyTsu
That coming from you, it's time for me to party! Thanks
    3. timethief
You're welcome. I mean what I say and I like your blog. It's conceptually interesting and it will be intriguing to see how you develop it.

In order to have peace within yourself you must be able to deal with the disorder around you. Love has many descriptions, and most everyone has their own way of describing what love is to them. It is the most used and abused word in our vocabulary I think.
    1. timethief
When I start focusing on particular outcomes I remind myself to cut the ties to my attachments and aversions and remain in the present moment. In that moment I know love is what I am, loving more and better is what I am here to learn, and LOVE is all there is.
  5. ekim941
Fear is what we learned here? Maybe for some, those who put up walls as a survival method. We all want the same thing, to connect with people. Call it love, like, lust... whatever. We just want to connect with people emotionally, physically, spiritually or however we can to make us feel like we are not alone.
The meaning or purpose of life seems to be to make connections to other people.
    1. timethief
I believe that in this life we learn to fear, and I'm not speaking about the instinctive kind of fear that we need to warn of us of actual danger. I believe we learn to fear the unknown and also failure because we develop weird constructs as to what constitutes failure and success.

I agree with what you have said about our desire to connect physically, emotionally and spiritually with others. I believe the way we do connect is through expressions of love.
    2. timethief
      You Will ... LOVE
You will experience the urge to connect
      intensely
      in physical,
      emotional,
      mental
      and spiritual modes.

      Your love toward
      other beings,
      nature,
      gods
      or life itself
      will draw you very close
      to the other,
      to identify with it
      most intimately
or to lose yourself in it.

I prefer to live and let life takes its course.
  7. nothingprofound
It doesn't matter to me if life has a meaning or purpose. I don't think about it.
  8. siralmo
life is, merely to perpetuate itself
  9. crazyTsu
As I have said earlier, we organism are built in such a way as to perpetuate ourselves. Why this bias? something or someone wants us to be there when they come back... and why humans are overwhelmingly more "intelligent"?
Suppose it was really someone else who dropped us all here, a lot of things would begin to make sense.. there could be a whole lot of stories
But I find it a little depressing that we are just some poultry on Earth farm
    1. siralmo
      suppose we had opposable thumbs

and suppose from that we developed ideas and concepts that couldn't be repeated without them

I think you are getting depressed for nothing
    2. crazyTsu
We can get anything we want. If we got bolder we could wings to fly.

Ultimately, we will create versions of ourselves capable of surviving on other planets - and the whole story will repeat there
  10. dbowles1017
The meaning of is to have a purpose, and the purpose is to find the meaning.
    1. Rivy
I like your take. Yang. Yin. Opposite. Yet connected. Becoming one. It seems to define all. Being and nothingness. Create. Destroy. Live. Die. Rise. Fall. Light. Dark. Free. Trapped.

None would exist without the other. Even "exist" requires "non-existence".
  11. PetLvr
Well .. some suggest that the meaning and purpose of life can be found mimicking the Godfather movies, but I prefer to think of myself as the Fifth Element.
  12. davedol
I agree that love is the purpose of life. In a physical sense, love means the reproduction of the species…survival. But with humans, love became something transcendent. Imagine a life without love. Well...I suppose we could imagine life without love...say we have a hobby. Collecting Star Wars action figures, for instance. Does that equal the joy of our relationship with our fellows, regardless how difficult it might be? Hmm. I don’t know. I sorta like action figures…,,,Jar Jar Binks rules!

Meaning of life and love are very very great to comprehend, life is sexier with love in the air !
    1. timethief
I wasn't referring to erotic love but I guess you do have a point. There two imperatives every living entity shares with all others are are survive and reproduce.
  14. Onchong
We always thought about life purpose, how to live it fully and how to keep ourselves from accomplishing it. It's easy to have our life spin out of balance before we realize it for many different reasons--including temporarily to achieve a specific goal or to simply catch up at times. Like a music composition, we have to strictly follow rhythm, even tempo, dynamics, correct phrasing. In life, we need to maintain a sense of balance.
    1. timethief
Perhaps each life is an individual journey wherein one acquires the necessary experience to learn how to celebrate the opportunity to enjoy expressing the gift of life itself through many creative avenues, such as but not limited to, mathematics, science, art, music, writing, charitable work, gardening, parenting, etc.
  15. trailofpen
There is no meaning to life other than to keep our species alive.
  16. drjalee52
Life is all about how much one gives love without expesting anything in return....
    1. urikalish
Don't you expect a good warm feeling inside in return?

What will matter and how does it relate to what the meaning of our life and our purpose?

"Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end. There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days. All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten will pass to someone else. ...

"What will matter is not what you bought but what you built, not what you got but what you gave. What will matter is not your success but your significance. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What will matter is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example."
