Have you ever heard of Scala ? It is a both a functional and an OOP language that is compatible with Java. If you want to find a future Job that will probably help.

You will be able to learn it here with me so bookmark this blog

Looks interesting, but it also looks like it could be abused pretty easily by programmers who don't follow good programming practices or implement WTF operator overloading. The idea behind the Java syntax was to cut down on that kind of thing.

There's another language called Fan that has a similar concept as Scala, but without as much propensity for abuse.

For me all these propensity of abuse comes from the fact that traditional languages have propensity for an enormous amount of boilerplate code so that it naturally induces to use shortcuts.

Now many real-world applications use PHP which has one of the most propensity to abuse, it doesn't prevent that many of them to be well designed.

As for Fan, you may be right (though I never looked at Fan yet but I will) but the problem is it doesn't have the same legacy and huge support than Scala.

If you don't believe me that Scala will be very hot this is what Groovy Language Creator said on his blog:

    "
Though my tip though for the long term replacement of javac is Scala. I'm very impressed with it! I can honestly say if someone had shown me the Programming in Scala book by by Martin Odersky, Lex Spoon & Bill Venners back in 2003 I'd probably have never created Groovy."
