So, for those who've been reading these boards with some sort of debris on their spectacles that has prevented them from seeing the word Entrecard, this is a new social networking / advertising site that allows you to earn credits for "dropping your card" on other blogs and receiving "dropped cards from other blogger on your blog". Then you can use those credits to purchase ads on other blogs.

So what's the big deal? Well the big deal is that for as far as I can tell the concept of "advertising" and the concept of "social networking" have been fused.

This means that for the astute blogger there are opportunities to turn your social networking into actual ads, and to turn your ads into real social networking connections.

Recently I placed an ad on a blog owned by a blogger who just seems to instinctively "get it". She took an ad placed on her site, turned it into an opportunity to connect and threw in the power of a time honored social skill to create something so much more valuable than a few "credits" or "dollars".

I had to write about her of course.

Must admit its not a word that is used as often as it used to be. You will find it also helps with stumbleupon and digg

I love her blog That was a really nice idea. It's the first time I've heard of anyone thanking each other for either placing an ad or approving one.

For whatever Entrecard is worth, I think Blog Explosion had something of the kind, a feature called "Rent my Blog".

    Anyone remember that!

Yeah BE is almost dead now!

As for the "Rent My Blog" thing: It was a feature using which members could "Rent" other blogs that were members of BE. "Renting" meant paying credits for the right to display your thumbnail on their blogs. The price was set by the blogger, and once accepted the "ad" ran on the "widget" for a week. Individual stats were provided as to the number of clicks that each "renting" got you.

    Sounds familiar?

It does sound familiar, I have something the same on my ad network but ads are free and for one day. No credits involved.
