The BlogCatalog Fundraising Event has started off as a huge success measured by the number of people who have blogged about it.

However, when it comes to "giving" money to help schools and kids it hasn't been a great success.

This made me think about why so many people who believe in the Secret and Blessings and others who work so hard to make money don't end up making more money and accummulating more wealth in their lives.

I think that no matter which of the beliefs you have as to why and how blessing/wealth/abundance occur in your life, there is an underlying principle that without it you can never truly be wealthy. The real key is to live with an Abundance Mentality, to have faith that there is plenty for everyone.

Most of us don't live with an abundance mentiality and I could be wrong but I think the fundraising event sort of indicates this. We live with a Scarcity Mentality. We are afraid to donate $10 to a good cause because it means we have less. We are afraid to share an idea with a friend because we think our friend will do better than us.

Whether you read the Bible, the Secret, or any other book about wealth creation, there is an underlying theme about having faith in abundance. Without a strong belief in abundance it is difficult if not impossible to become wealthy.

I think the Secret should be renamed the "Real" Secret and focus more on giving. The current focus is more on the abundance of the universe.

Simply believing that you get what you visualize isn't enough. Giving is what is much more difficult. Giving is the evidence that you believe in abundance, that you believe that you are blessed. Giving is what opens the door to being able to make a lot of money, lot of love... a lot of whatever you want in your life.

Give to the Kids they need it and you will get a whole bunch more in return.

Anyone who has read my blogs won't be surprised to learn that I'm no fan of "The Secret"--but (as SitePro pointed out) this concept has much older (and to my mind more credible) roots. I'm a single mother, but when I get money the first 10% goes into the poor box at St. Peter's (in cash--no tax deductible receipts for me, thank you) and I've definitely found that the more willing I am to realize that I'm only a guardian of what happens to be in my hands at the moment and not its true owner, the less I have to worry about how our own needs are going to be met.

i completely agree with you...as you know, i am a total believer in the Secret...i strive everyday to live by its tenets and that includes firmly believing that the Universe in an unlimited resource and will provide for us all...

just visualizing what you want without being grateful for the blessings you have already received and giving of yourself, your time and your possessions, ISN'T living the Secret...you have to have an unwavering faith in the abundance of the Universe...there is more than enough for all...all we need do is live in that abundance...

share what the Universe has blessed you with by helping kids and schools...

Kind of reminds me of "The Sower and the Seed"
    Matthew 13:3-23
Many might have good intentions and plan to do it, but how many really do it b/c they really believe it and have the faith it works.
The fact is, most are talkers and not doers.

"COME ON DOERS, WE STILL HAVE TILL FRIDAY"!!!

The truth is, our blessings come to us when we bless others.

i just read an awesome little article by dr. joe vitale called 'serving love'...here's the link if you're interested...

    www.mrfire.com/article-archives/new-articles/serving-love.html

but here's the part that caught my attention and is pertinent here...

Last night Nerissa and I went out with our friend Mark Ryan. The Mississippi waitress who took care of us had off the charts high energy, Southern charm, and a smile that made my heart sing. We loved her and her spirit.

When we asked her what kept her so happy while she served people, she said, "I'm trying to make a small difference in people's lives."

She ended up sitting with us at our table, after dinner, and talking to us for almost an hour.

    That's service.

    That's love.

And whether it's from a computer store or a waitress, we all want it.

    Are you giving it?

    and from me...make a difference...
