If you wrote a book today, what would you title it? what would it be about?

If I wrote a book today, i'd call it
"La Fille Du Soleil" and it would be about me surviving my childhood.

I actually just finished writing my book and am finishing up with editing. I haven't complete decided but I am gearing towards:

Lost and Found: A Journey of Addiction, Recovery, and Redemption (but from what I hear, the publisher will have a say in this).

i cannot wait to read it. i started writing but because i cry every time i do and it is so painful, i keep quitting.
    2. melindaville
      Awww, Lolita, here's a (((((((((hug))))))))))

It was extremely difficult for me to write this book--painful and traumatic. A couple of times, I just broke down and cried after writing--once I actually had to go to bed, I was so upset. But at the same time, it was the most freeing thing I have ever done--finally facing all those past demons.

It was only after I confronted my father in 2005 that I was able to start writing my book. I'd tried writing it many times in the last 15 years--I always felt I would end up writing a book--but I just wasn't ready to face everything.

That might be the case for you too--you are much younger than I am--you may get to the point that I reached--where the book actually just erupted out of me. I wrote the entire book in 4 months (and then have spent a year editing it!).
    3. melindaville
That's great that you were able to do that at a younger age than I was. Of course, when I was a little girl, no one EVER talked about sexual abuse of children. It was a different time than today.

Lolita, I think you will be able to write your book when the time is right--when the time was right for me, as I said, it just erupted!

I'll look forward to reading it someday!
    4. Stillthinking
Melinda, I am also really looking forward to reading your book!

I have to politely disagree with your title though. It sounds too "Lifetime" movie of the week. I think you should name it something that reflects what an amazing, fascinating person you are.
    5. melindaville
Still--do you have any suggestions? I am not sold on Lost and Found--it's the working title. My agent told me that the publisher will have a big say in this also. I told him I have an artist friend (the grandson of Ernest Hemingway, actually) who wants to do the cover--and he told me that the publisher has a lot to do with things like the artwork, title, etc. Once I agree to a deal, I will have limited say in that type of thing.

I'd love to hear suggestions for the title of my book. Hey! Perhaps I will create a post asking for suggestions. I can offer to acknowledge the person in the book if the title is chosen!
    6. aningeniousname
How about "Under the Monochrome rainbow: A journey of addiction, recovery and redemption."
Or alternately "I shot the horse and won"
or "Counting reasons" A journey etc"
    7. melindaville
Hahaha! I like--"I shot the horse and won"

Monochrome rainbow--you know--I actually really like that, anin.
  2. MadameX
I have a few books in progress right now. My favorite one is called The Skeeball King.
    1. LolitaV
      what is it about?
    2. melindaville
You're my hero, Tiffany. I hope to someday have 'several books in progress' -- lol!
    3. MadameX
Lolita, it's a novel about a young man in the rural midwest.

Melinda--from what I've seen thus far, I think that your one book contains more substance and took more effort than everything I've ever written combined. You should be your OWN hero.
    4. melindaville
      Oh wow, MadameX--thank you!
  3. crpitt
I am thinking of writing a book on hospital visiting:

"Stick your grapes up your arse"
    1. LolitaV
LOL!!! now that will be christmas gift material for my family and friends.
    2. crpitt
I have written a few chapters and will be adding some doodles of course
    3. jafabrit
      lol! you would know.
    4. LolitaV
i hope the "trophy" will be there. I'd be so proud showing people my piegina
    5. crpitt
I would dedicate it to all the wretched family members that are bloody awful at visiting their relatives.

      No piegina this time lol
    6. melindaville
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
    7. LolitaV
DO NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST THE PIEGINA, Claire!!!! Do not discriminate!!
    8. crpitt
There is no place for piegina in hospital, unless you are inserting a catheter
    9. LolitaV
please don't remind me claire. i had one put in when i was giving birth, it HUTZZZZ!!!!!! it is so painful nd they had the wrong size so they took it out nd gave me one smaller but it still hurt. it hurt more than giving birth!
    10. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh, I can see that book being a best-seller in the hospital gift shop!
    11. crpitt
It will probably offend some people.

      Hopefully

    12. ThriftShopRomantic
      Would we expect anything less?
    13. crpitt
      Probably not

The mumborg is providing some tips, although she is too nice for it really.
    14. ThriftShopRomantic
There should be a greeting card line, too.
    15. crpitt
      ohhhhhh there is an idea
    16. Stillthinking
Claire, you really could do a hilarious book of doodles. I think it would end up being an international bestseller. Then you could support the rest of us struggling writers while we try to get published.

I think a sex position doodle books would be hilarious. We need more piegina.
  4. jafabrit
Mine is called "oops" and is about how I came to be and all the other stuff along the way, more of a visual journey with text.
    1. crpitt
      Have you written it?
    2. LolitaV
      that is a catchy title.
maybe i should have called my blog that
    3. LolitaV
      that is a catchy title.
maybe i should have called my blog that
    4. jafabrit
      thanks, working on it
    5. crpitt
On another book to look forward to, get on with it
  5. nothingprofound
My autobiography: "How to succeed in life without giving a damn."
    1. LolitaV
now that would be lovely. i believe that not giving a flying fuck gets the job half done!
  6. ThriftShopRomantic
Well, the book I'm working on has a title I like, so I don't yet want to share it with the masses.

It's a humorous space fantasy book, though, based on an idea I'd come up with many moons ago in college.

I'm in the home stretch of having the draft done.
    1. LolitaV
why don't you just share it so that i can steal it??

    2. ThriftShopRomantic
There will be nun of that, Sister Maria.
    3. LolitaV
      LOL!!!!
should I assume that you just baptized me??
    4. crpitt
Just read the first chapter, as this post had reminded that I have it.

It was like you see in some movies and tv shows when they open a front door or closet and see a t-rex
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
@Claire- Ha... That's great, that made ME laugh. It is a little bit like that but with fewer dinosaurs and more other unexpected weirdness.

@Lolita- I probably don't have much authority there... and anyway, wouldn't want to make an, ahem, habit of it.
    6. crpitt
Well I didn't want to give anything away, it is definitely a wandering into something familiar but also unexpected.

Also I see myself in the main character lol, its how I feel sometimes
    7. ThriftShopRomantic
The main character would appreciate that, given the abuse he gets!

PS- If you see any glaring errors in his take on his grad school studies, etc., given you're in an-offshoot of the same stuff, I'd love to know-- so I have a chance of fixing it.
    8. crpitt
Nothing glaring comes to mind at the mo, but I will print it out and see if reading it that way highlights anything
    9. ThriftShopRomantic
Don't go to a lot of trouble. I know you've got a ton of stuff going on what with the Mumborg and all.
    10. crpitt
I want to get my red pen out! lol
    11. ThriftShopRomantic
Far be it for me to prevent your Joy o' the Red Pen.
    12. crpitt
Well so as not to impact on you too much psychologically I would use a green pen.
    13. ThriftShopRomantic
I fear not the red pen. I am both the user of it and the recipient of it every day.
    14. crpitt
Teacher are not allowed to use it any more, otherwise poor children will be scarred for life.
    15. ThriftShopRomantic
It's gonna be interesting to see how these kids function as adults, isn't it?

I'd say you're going to have a busy therapy business.
  7. Stillthinking
I leave the title to the very end. I have three unfinished novels, none of which are worthy for public viewing. One is historic erotica, another is coming of age/road trip, the third is a teen adventure novel. All unfinished and embarrassingly bad. I usually think about a title, but go with a rough working title while I am writing. Since I never completed any of these novels, I never got to actual official naming portion.

Now, I am contemplating writing a collection of short-form nonfiction since clearly fiction is not my forte.
    1. crpitt
Why is fiction not your forte?
    2. Stillthinking
I really struggle with fiction. Sometimes, the characters are so real it's like they can walk off my computer screen and start chatting with me. Other times, it's like I can't get a grasp on how they act or think or feel.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
ST- That's fiction for most of us. It's not easy, but it's rewarding.

And making those not-so-vivid characters more vivid is what the SECOND draft is for. There's always another chance to get it right with fiction.
    4. aningeniousname
Just base it on people you know or have met and then exaggerate their foibles a touch.
    5. Stillthinking
Oh my god, it's the oft talked about but rarely seen pink donkey. We thought Polybore murdered you in your sleep?
    6. ThriftShopRomantic
Wise advice, aardvark. That technique really works, too, even if it's just as a jumping off point.
    7. aningeniousname
      @Still
Well that's why me and that great big hunk of scots beefcake now have bunk beds.

      @Thrift
Yeah and you can find some interesting characters using that technique. Characters you wouldn't have thought of in a million years and seem like real people to readers.
    8. Stillthinking
Well, I have completely abandoned the erotica one, but I am still contemplating picking up the road trip one or the teen adventure novel again.
  8. amybyrd21
working with my editor on a cookbook. havent decided what to call it yet. Want to write one on Adoption as I am adopted. Working on finding info on it for medical reasons mostly. May write one on my travles to get this stuff with out paying someone $5000 to start with plus by the hour.
    1. LolitaV
you gotta pay to get published??? 5k??
    2. MadameX
Why would you have to pay $5000? To whom?
  9. gimpshot
My work in progress is titled, "Substance" but I'm leaning toward it being called "The Substance Users Guide to the DSM." A dark comedy involving drug, alcohol, and mental health counseling.
    1. crpitt
I would love to read that.
  10. gimpshot
I'm getting to the point now where I might start putting chapters up online. Just need to type them up. I went the old school route of writing it up with pen and paper, but that makes editing a huge pain.
    1. crpitt
Look forward to it when you do I can't remember the last time I actually wrote something substantial on paper.
  11. aningeniousname
Fanny Golightly and the dirty caves of Lesbos.
    1. Stillthinking
      hahahahaha

A little bird told me you are actually not a lavender aardvark but a handsome prince...
    2. aningeniousname
Your little bird has been telling you fibs.
    3. Stillthinking
I think not. Thou dost protest too much.
  12. faithsju243
I plan on writing an autobiography called Behind Closed Doors.
    1. LolitaV
huuuuu, what is behind those doors? share?
    2. faithsju243
@Lolita. wouldn't you like to know

I wish it was something fun but mostly the book is about growing up with an alcoholic father and a mother in denial. How that affected me as a child and shaped the adult I've become....see real brady bunch stuff.
    3. melindaville
If I say that in a bookstore--I would have to pick it up to investigate!
  13. Shiley
Finding Shirley it would be about me and a portion of the proceeds would go to a shelter or something.
    1. crpitt
Not "Searching for the R" ?
    2. Shiley
      That's in another thread somewhere.
  14. Floormodel
My book would be sci-fi and old style sci-fi at that. I love the sci-fi bnook from the 50s and 60s and I'd like to write one in that style. I started on once but got too busy with kids and work to give it any attention. The title was 'Window to the stars'. I do have a dear friend who has published two books and I'm proud to say I was involved from the rough drafts to the final edits.
    1. Deray28
      Asimov's fan by any chance?
  15. cookingasshole
    Cooking for Assholes
    1. LolitaV
