We almost had a woman become the Democratic candidate and now we have a woman as a vice presidential candidate. Not to mention an African American man as the Democratic candidate. But anyway, it's funny how its history in the making and all we hear is how hot Sarah Palin is and how if Hillary was as good looking as she was, she could have gotten more votes. What do you think?

Here's the picture that I made that shows this controversy:

I'd like a better view of Palin's tattoo....

    [What do you think?]
I think it's irrelevant to the fact that there are issues that need to be solved and the candidate with the best ideas for solving those issues should get elected.

Exactly, so why should looks matter for the women? Most of the presidents have been old so looks never really mattered.
    2. DrowseyMonkey
They don't matter. The only people who want you to think they matter are the people who don't want you to focus on the issues.

Critical thinking ... that's what's needed. Ignore the fodder.

Physical appearance matters to a lot of people. Much the same way that whether or not someone is a good speaker or whether they find the right buzz words influence voters, people unconsciously pay more attention to and even have more trust in people they perceive as attractive. I don't have time to look for the link right now, but there is at least one University study on this. It SHOULDN'T matter, perhaps, but it will have an effect.

Perhaps, but thinking back over the years since I was 18 ... about all the people I've voted for, none of them were terribly attractive. It matters very little if you're informed on the issues, which was my point.
    5. MadameX
I agree with that, Drowsey, but I don't see what possible application you could think that would have in the United States.
    6. DrowseyMonkey
That maybe there are people in the US who are informed ... and will vote based on being informed rather than on looks. Geez, I hope so anyway! lol
    7. MadameX
There are SOME, sure, but they won't carry the election. You may have noted the amount of time and attention devoted to the pig comment?
    8. DrowseyMonkey
That's because the media isn't doing their job. If they were that wouldn't have gotten much coverage. But the media everywhere is out to make a buck ... and they're competing with the immediacy of the internet so investigative journalism seems to be on the decline everywhere. Which is sad, because it's not like the people running the campaigns are going to give you all the information you need to make an informed decision.

It's the same here ... our election got hijacked by a pooping bird animation...(rolls eyes).
    9. MadameX
Well, that IS their job, now--to make money for their parent companies. And making money means giving people what they want. And we, apparently, want to yell about lipstick on pigs instead of learning about the issues. Give us a good news show and we'll flip over to American Idol.

Sometimes I think the public is smarter than we think ... or at least smarter than the media thinks. Lordy, I hope so.

If I was running a big corporation and had to hire 1 of 2 people...who would I pick to run my big multi-million dollar corporation? The person who knows more than I do and has experience ... or the person who's all folksy and may be fun to have a beer with, but doesn't know how a corporation operates?

      Hmm...who to pick.
    11. MadameX
Would you like to pop over here and vote?

I'd LIKE to believe that we're smarter than I think but...you are remembering that we elected George Bush TWICE, right?
    12. DrowseyMonkey
Trust me, Canadian's are about to make the wrong choice the second time too ... it's very frustrating. The only difference is we don't really have the 24/7 media you guys do, other than that ... it's pretty much the same.

Our only saving grace is our election period is 36 days.

I haven't heard a lot about how hot she is. I've heard a lot about how uninformed she is.

She reminds me of Peggy Hill ... from King of the Hill, sounds like her too, lol...ummm...that's not hot.

Anyway, focus people...on the issues. These people are applying for the most important job in your country.
    1. klawedkillerkitten
hahaha Peggy Hill. Wow she does.

Issues? Style always comes before substance, Honey.
